this is in response to the former president improperly removing documents that were classified from the white house. trump was not home at the time, he was in new york. he did release a statement, plumbing that his home is "currently under siege, rated and occupied by a large group of fbi agents." the search warrant was approved by federal judge, with proof that a federal crime was committed. >> what was alleged in the affidavit bears out, and we may retrieve that evidence. it is possible criminal charges could be filed against the president. jobina: in january, the national archives took 15 boxes from mar-a-lago with ron's cooperation sources tell abc news a grand jury investigation launched in may. this morning, the fbi has not commented on the search and the attorney general has not spoken about it either. republicans are lashing out. house republican leader kevin

mccarthy put out a statement, calling for an investigation into the justice department. reggie: thank you. we sent this in the abc 7 news app when this broke. you can download our app. kumasi: turning now to your health. a key part of building up a dish a better bay area. a ramp-up effort taking shape today to stop monkeypox. the biden administration and state lawmakers are set to address the urgency for action today. a walk-in clinic is opening this morning. ryan is live in san francisco, where that line is already growing. ryan: good morning. we are here, where officials are hoping to vaccinate as many people as possible. as this morning has going on, more and more people have been getting in line to hopefully receive a dose. once this clinic opens in just a few hours.

this was expected, because given the history, we know how long the lines can be. it is no surprise that as the lines -- that is the morning have gone on, more and more people have decided to get in line. now, we are learning about the contact tracing of this virus. abc 7 news spoke with david norman, who is almost fully recovered from monkeypox. it did take him 17 days. he considers himself lucky to be getting over it so quickly. a rally was held at san francisco federal building on monday to demand the government get more vaccines out to the vaccine -- out to the community. there have been questions about the contact tracing efforts. the city says not many people are able or willing to talk to them about the names of possible exposures. norman says no one from the city has contacted him and he says this virus is pretty painful. >> i had a big one on my nose that will probably leave a scar. honestly, i was in so much pain with the other places they were, that was all i was focused on, was mitigating pain.

ryan: today's clinic opens at 8 a.m., its usual timeslot. it storm is the only place in the city with drop-ins. other places like ucsf, kaiser, and others require appointments. i local declaration has kicked in, which will hopefully revamp the vaccination efforts at least in this local community. but as we have seen time and time again with this virus, a lot of frustrating measures being taken from officials, a lot of frustrated people about where to get vaccines and how to obtain them, and also what to do if you do contract the virus. still frustrating times for san francisco, but at least there is another opportunity to get vaccinated today. kumasi: thank you. we have everything you need to know about monkeypox, including vaccines, symptoms, and treatment page you can plan it all on our website. reggie: there could be a major breakthrough in the fight against lyme disease. pfizer started a late stage

trial for a potential vaccine. there is currently no vaccine for lyme disease, which is a tick-born illness. another vaccine was stopped due to lack of demand. but the number of cases of lyme disease has increased in recent years. pfizer's trial is enrolling 6000 people in 50 locations. kids as young as five years old and adult are participating in this trial. vaccine approval could be sent to regular leaders as soon as 2025. kumasi: every city in the bay area is under pressure to build more affordable housing. there is now a plan to use extra land for mixed-use housing. how this could be a win-win situation. >> if approved, this a verbal housing project would not only help san jose with housing needs, by building 320 apartments, but it would allow pta -- bta to raise additional

funds. it would take up 7.5 acres at the blossom hill light rail station. in addition to those 328 apartments, they will also build commercial space and a community room, as part of a vision to put housing and jobs where people have easy access to transit. they say they could raise $30 million by leasing 100 40 acres of surplus land it owns in seven cities. with ridership levels down on both the vta bus service and light rail, that is revenue critical to staying afloat. >> it can pay for improvements, better connections to the station, capital improvements, it can provide for basic maintenance and operations for the system. >> it's always the right time to build transit oriented development. silicon valley is always the right time to be building housing. the building -- the housing

lisa: morning tea. as we look at our usual pattern here, you can see some thunderstorms fired up yesterday in the sierra nevada. that could happen today, but not much concern today. low pressure to the west and high pressure to the east. why that is significant with this low pattern of clouds and fog. to start off, a gorgeous view from mount tam. the clouds have moved over the bay. we have clouds in santa clara and the numbers are pretty mild out there. temperatures are in the 60's. without that upwelling, we are warmer, and the marine layer is much more diffuse out there. you can see the clear sky there. it is cooler than the north bay.

city. even with more officers working overtime, a lack of resources continues to strain the department. the problem was on full display last weekend. there were more than eight shootings, four of them deadly. officers were dispatched to calls around the city of oakland, but the department could not keep up when it came to local business being arm -- being robbed. >> i apologize to the business owners that we did not have the resources to respond in a timely manner to the burglar repaired you cannot rely on the police department to serve everything. we won't be able to do it. we just have the resources. kumasi: even with acknowledging the staffing shortage and retention issues, a member of the anti-police terror projects as department leadership is to blame for the strain on resources that opd has to offer. >> they can't seemingly get a handle on how to send people to the right place at the right time. that's their issue. they have more than $300 million. kumasi: chief armstrong says after this weekend's violence,

kumasi: there is some encouraging news about the seat populations in the south. a nest of critically endangered loggerhead turtles emerged from the nest in south carolina on sunday. in mississippi, a nest of turtles, which could be loggerhead or another rare species, was found. this is the first nest found on mississippi's mainland in four years. scientists say it is a good sign that populations might be recovering from natural disasters and habitat changes because of climate change. reggie: new at 6:00, some of the world's richest men are finding a massive treasure hunt, sort of, in greenland. the climate crisis is melting greenland glaciers at a terrible rate. it is also opening doors for mining minerals for electric vehicles. among these are jeff bezos, michael bloomberg, just to name a few.

clouds will evaporate, with low 60's over the san ramon valley. but then we will get to the low by noon time. you can see the fog there along half moon bay, the san mateo coast, around pacifica. low to middle 80's return inland, looking at the 70's downtown. reggie: now to the urgent push to control monkeypox, if it is even possible to do that. patients in the bay area and san francisco feel they are being left behind. there are 472 confirmed cases. more than 1300 are in the state. some direct action is coming today. california state senator of san francisco is leading a committee hearing of lawmakers and health officials. they are doing that in sacramento. the biden administration is expected to announce a shift in the federal vaccination strategy. ryan curry is live with all of that for us. he is at san francisco general, where the line is continuing to

grow as people hope to get a vaccine today. ryan: good morning, reggie. we keep having to stand further and further back as more people show up hoping to get a vaccine. we are doing our best to show you the line and how long it is. we're also trying to respect the privacy of those who are choosing to get a vaccine today. of course, we know this has been a very frustrating process for a lot of people. as you mentioned, the spread continues to grow and san francisco. now, we are learning about some contact tracing efforts that have not been what we have seen for the covid pandemic. a lot of people are frustrated with that as well. abc 7 news spoke with somebody who is currently recovering from monkeypox. he has been isolating for around 17 days and did take the antiviral drug which he says made him feel better. however, he says no one from the city has contacted him. the city is also saying many are not willing to give up the names of possible close contacts. now, there is more pressure on

the federal government to get more vaccines out to communities like san francisco hit very hard right now. protesters gathered at the federal building, demanding more action. health officials also want the government to respond better. >> even though there is a federal declaration of emergency, no additional appropriation of money to the states and local jurisdiction, so that remains a challenge. >> that is not the only terrible outcome here. if you have to isolate for two to six weeks to wait for your lesions to disappear and resolve, i don't know icicle person with six weeks of paid sick leave. ryan: no one in the u.s. has died from monkeypox, but there are very real concerns among the community for other reasons. protesters want more vaccines and drugs like the one norman took more available to the community. at the very least, there is another opportunity to get vaccinated this morning. we have seen long lines in the past due to very low supply.

unfortunately, many people in the past being turned away from the hospital. the case today, we are seeing yet another long line growing over my shoulder. it's not as long as what we have seen in the past, but still many people are in need of a vaccine and are trying to get a vaccine as soon as they possibly can. showing yet another frustrating time for san franciscans who are trying to get a handle on this virus. live in san francisco, ryan curry, abc 7 news. kumasi: thank you. suffering heat, historic drought, and flooding are impacting millions of people across the country. we are learning more about just how extreme this summer's weather has been. jobina: new data from the national oceanic and atmospheric association shows that august was the third -- july was the third warmest month in history. in texas, july was the hottest month on record. thousands of miles north in boston, temperatures reached 95 degrees for five consecutive days. emergency workers were pushed to

the limit with heat related calls. >> a lot of folks out working. >> these three through five day stents we go through can wear people down, can really do a job on the reserves. jobina: it wasn't just heat. missouri broke a record on rainfall. a flooding kentucky is blamed for 37 deaths. much of this weather is driven by climate change and we should expect to see more extreme conditions in the months and years to come. jobina: thank you. president biden traveled to kentucky yesterday to survey the damage after the recent storms there. this was his first trip since getting out of covid isolation. thousands of people are still displaced this morning and thousands more still have no power or running water. the president and first lady visited with impacted families, telling them they are not alone. pres. biden: this happened in america, an american problem. everyone is americans. they'll have an obligation to help. we have the capacity to do this.

kumasi: over the weekend, president biden amended existing legislation for kentucky to free up disaster assistance. reggie: bay area students are heading back to school this month and local mental health experts warn an increasing number of children may also be carrying the weight of extra anxiety and depression. students are navigating limited in-school resources, covid, and active school shooter training. stresses can even trickle down from adults. here are some lessons learned from the pandemic. >> open up the communication channel that it is ok to have someone on your side. it has been a positive for so many people. reggie: has kids enter the new school year, doctors are encouraging making communication a priority with them. >> that's what i say to my kids. they're like, you are a public health professor, don't you know it's going to happen next? i say, i have no idea what's going to happen next, but i know
