scott wiener held a special hearing on the outbreak in sacramento. tim johns sat in on that meeting and has more details. >> this hearing comes after both the city of san francisco and the state of california already having declared state of emergency over monkeypox. the senator told me this afternoon with the spread of the virus accelerating, there is much more that can and should be done. >> the line stretched down the block tuesday at zuckerberg san francisco general hospital people lining up since early hours of the morning to get the monkeypox vaccine. >> in san francisco, i guess i'm high risk. with covid i don't want to take risks. >> san francisco reports over 500 cases of monkeypox. as the virus spreads, so is the urgency to get the outbreak under control. to the afternoon, scott weiner held a special hearing in sacramento urging other officials to do more. >> we need to continue to push

hard to make sure our state, federal, state, and local public health authorities are directing resources where they are needed most. >> among other things, his office submitted an emergency state budget request for $38.5 million. he wants to use the money to support local public health departments. he's asking for changes in regulations to allow county and community clinics to use covert funding to help address the monkeypox crisis globally. is calling for more vaccines immediately and sent to the states. >> it is slow in terms of gradual increases in supply. >> without tough action, he fears monkeypox could be here to stay. >> extremely concerned monkeypox will become endemic in the u.s., and it is heading in that direction. >> the san francisco department of health received 23,000 doses. it asked for 35,000 doses to just begin to meet the need. vaccinations will continue

tomorrow on a first-come, first serve basis until they run out. no word on when more doses will arrive. in san francisco, tim johns. >> new developments regarding housing in san francisco. governor newsom launching an unprecedented state review to get to the bottom of the notoriously difficult and lengthy housing approval and permitting process. the governor ordered the housing and development agency to investigate why san francisco has the longest timeline for advancing housing projects. the order comes after a year of escalating warnings and will be the first review conducted by the unit created last year. >> cameras to read license plates are coming to newark. the city will install 20 cameras to scan millions of license plates each year. the bay area news group reports the cameras could go up as soon as next month. on roads leading into and out of the city. the city council approved the

california's population fell by more than 180,000 in 2020 and has declined two years in a row. the number of people who left the state are a tiny percentage of the population, he says many of his friends have plans to leave, citing similar difficulties. >> people feel it a lot. >> his family sold their berkeley laundromat and is contemplating the same. >> even though it is a terrible financial decision to take those offers, i might. >> in the east bay, dion lim. >> in the south bay, the santa clara county board of supervisors is considering a proposal to provide additional resources to confiscate illegal guns. supervisor cindy chavez says the county has one of the highest illegal compensation -- confiscation records in the state. she was joined at a news conference by the santa clara police chief. >> it would allow agencies to participate in a countywide gun

violence task force. criminals and guns don't confine themselves to city limits. having a multi-department forced to actively pursue illegally possessed weapons will benefit every resident in this county. >> the city of santa clara alone has confiscated 38 illegal guns. the board will discuss the proposal at the meeting next week. >> sunnyvale detectives solved a 40-year-old cold case with the help of dna. karen stitt was kidnapped and stabbed to death in 1982. she was last seen as she walked to catch a bus back to her home. her body was found the next morning. in 2019, a tip led detectives to the killer could be one of four brothers. 75-year-old gary ramirez was arrested in hawaii. detectives were able to bring the good news to her extended family. >> they did the hard work keeping this hope alive for 40 years, keeping her memory alive, continuing to care about her.

>> ramirez has no criminal history, but it is possible he could have victimized more people. anyone with information is asked to come forward. >> three family memories who face charges in the death of a three-year-old girl in san jose were in court. the girl died during an exorcism attempt in september. court records show her mother and uncle drove her to a church believing she was possessed because she cried throughout the night. the child's mother, uncle, and grandfather face charges. a judge agreed to consolidate their cases so it will be one trial for all three. a plea hearing is set for november 18. >> a man involved in the kidnapping, torture, and beating of a teenager is expected to be polled, but -- paroled. he was sent to prison in 2011 for his role in the case and was granted parole in march. another hearing set for next week. if approved, he could be free in a matter of days.

the san joaquin county district attorney's office and tracy police department are pushing for him to remain in prison. >> and woman whose claim against a black boy led to his death and inspired the civil rights movement will not be charged. in 1955, she falsely accuse 14-year-old emmett till of making advances. days later, her husband and his brother killed him, both were acquitted of murder. the family recently discovered an unserved against warrant against her. a grand jury in mississippi said there was insufficient evidence to indict her on that warrant. >> a silicon valley judge set to rule if some golfers will be able to play in the upcoming fedexcup despite their ties to the controversial lipitor. >> former aide are and golden bear marshawn lynch facing charges. abc7 news continues. abc7 news continues. this is john. he never gives up—no matter what life throws his way.

>> former president trump and republican lawmakers are blasting the ei following its raid on mar-a-lago resort in florida. sources say it was related to 15 boxes of classified documents the former president took when he left the white house. experts say agents would have needed to prove probable cause a crime was committed before a federal judge signed off on a search warrant. >> i would be surprised if at the end of the day, we learn it was simply an effort by the fbi to retrieve records, there probably is something much more significant. >> the fbi and apartment of justice declined to comment. trump called it a political assault. some of his supporters are going as far as threatening to wage civil war. >> former nfl star running back and oakland native marshawn lynch facing charges after he was driving.

>> a legal battle between the newly founded liv golf tour made its way to san jose. three former pga golfers filed a temporary restraining order to pause their suspension, allowing them to play in the upcoming fedexcup championship, which many consider the super bowl of golf. dustin dorsey has the ruling.

>> the latest battle between the pga tour and the upstart saudi arabian funded liv golf tour played out in the bay area. a judge ruled three former pga members that jumped ship could not play in the upcoming fedexcup playoffs thursday. >> the decision was not unexpected after he heard the way she opened up the hearing. she had a predetermined mindset, made a ruling on the basis of irreparable harm, said there was no irreparable harm. >> filed a temporary restraining order days ago to play in both the pga this week and live after their membership had been suspended by the pga in late june. they were members and earned required points to compete in the tournament. with the three golfers left the tour alongside other big names like phil mickelson, for a much larger paycheck with guaranteed money supplied saudi arabia's sovereign wealth fund.

in san jose, dustin dorsey. >> the city of santa rosa discussing a new proposal to crack down on short-term vacation rentals. >> as liz kreutz explains, it could not be more welcome news for one neighbor who says he lives next door to a popular party house. >> he moved into this santa rosa neighborhood for one major reason. >> quiet. >> turns out it is not so peaceful. the home next to his is a large and popular short-term vacation rental. it is often rented out for large parties, weddings, or bachelorettes. >> the party bus shows up. banquet truck show up, unload tables and buffet tables, all of that. it is a party house. >> he even had to erect this fence to stop party guests from spreading onto his yard. >> before this fence was here, people were coming onto the property? >> they didn't know the separation.

>> his situation is an extreme example. over the past two years, they have seen a big increase in homes in quiet neighborhoods like this functioning as short-term vacation rentals. >> we started seeing companies buying properties. not just throughout the city, but sometimes in the same neighborhood. >> thunderosa is looking to crack down on short-term vacation rentals. at a city council meeting, officials will vote on a proposal to beef up enforcement of rentals and cap the number allowed in the city. >> what we are looking at for the non-hosted, which means the owner is not on the property while they are renting out the space, we're looking at a rent cap of 215. >> it comes days after the county approved similar regulations, capping the amount of vacation rentals in some areas and banning them in others. in santa rosa, the cap will only be for non-hosted rentals. sandy, who rents out a cottage behind her house, is relieved. >> neighbors have never

in the heatwave, possible building this weekend for the inland neighborhoods and spills into next week and really increases. barely 80's to show up. morgan hill, 82. brentwood, 83. cloverdale, 80. everyone else in the 70's until you get to near the coast. in mid to upper 60's. 64 degrees. that is our ocean temperature. normally the low to mid 50's. it has made the nights very mild in san francisco. we said -- set a couple of record warm low temperatures saturday and sunday. today was 60. it ties a record from 2015. we just missed one today. that is pretty impressive, considering where we should be. if you have outdoor plans, it will be gusty. 10 to 20, gusts of 35.

tuesday, 96 could be the beginning of the heatwave. motown songwriter and producer lamonte dozier has died. he was the middle name of a celebrated hollen dozier holland team that rotates like this. ♪ >> dozier and brothers brian and eddie holland worked together from 1963 to 1967, writing hit after hit for artists like diana ross and the supremes, martha and the vendettas, the four tops, marvin gaye, and many more. the team was responsible for more than 80 singles that hit the top 40 of the pop or r&b charts, including 50 songs that hit number one. he also worked with contemporary artists like kanye west and the black-eyed peas. he was inducted into the songwriters hall of fame in 1988, and later the rock and roll hall of fame.
