logan saying america was already dangerously divided, and this can make things worse. >> let's right to abc's ike ejiochi who begins our coverage from washington this morning. ike, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, andrew. we are learning more about that fbi search at former president trump's home in florida. and now one of his top allies in congress is facing scrutiny. one day after the unprecedented fbi search at mar-a-lago, a leading trump ally now says he's the target of the fbi. pennsylvania congressman scott perry, who has been in the headlines recently for refusing to appear before the january 6th committee, saying in a statement, while traveling with my family, three fbi agents visited me and seized my cell phone. the fbi has not commented. but perry has been a major figure in the investigation into trump's actions after the 2020 election allegedly playing a key role in trump's attempt to install an acting attorney general who pushed baseless claims of voter fraud, meanwhile, we're learning more about the time line surrounding monday's search at trump's florida home.

the fbi gave the secret service members stationed at mar-a-lago 45 minutes' notice. the secret service only alerted resort staff moments before the fbi agents arrived. a staffer then alerted the former president's son eric who told his father. sources say the search was related to allegations that the former president improperly removed documents when he left the white house. documents brought to mar-a-lago that are believed to include classified material. the president issuing a new statement late yesterday calling the search a horrible thing and a coordinated attack by democrats. trump's allies rallying around him. many attacking the fbi, which is run by a trump appointee, but most of their attacks have been aimed at the justice department and attorney general merrick garland. >> you should never use the justice department on a political whim like this, and i think that's the real question that we're looking at. >> reporter: garland said no one should be given a pass if they've broken the law. >> no person is above the law in this country.

nothing stops us -- >> even a former president? >> i don't know how to -- maybe i'll say that again. no person is above the law in this country. >> reporter: but republicans are demanding garland explain why the mar-a-lago was necessary. >> merrick garland, chris wray come to the house judiciary committee this friday and answer our questions. what was on the warrant? what were you really doing? what were you looking for? >> reporter: while the justice department has a policy of not commenting on ongoing investigations, trump was given a copy of the warrant and could shed light on the reason for the search if he wants to. >> he does have it, and he absolutely could release it. there is nothing stopping him from doing so. the warrant would provide some details on what they were looking for. it's not as detailed as the affidavit. there's an affidavit that would have been presented to the judge that would establish probable cause that a search would yield evidence of a crime. >> reporter: now, monday wasn't the first time federal law enforcement has visited mar-a-lago on this matter. a small team of agents visited

that overturned on the new jersey turnpike hitting a truck. one person on the bus was killed. five others including the bus driver suffered serious injuries. the bus was heading to philadelphia. after months of paying higher and higher prices at the store, gas station and online, americans appear to finally be getting a break. a new report this morning could show that inflation has finally peaked. this morning, good news for your wallet. prices for nearly everything from gas and food to flights and even housing are slowly coming down. gas now below $4 a gallon nationwide after dropping for 57 consecutive days thanks to lower demand and falling oil prices. airfares also dropping. round trip domestic flights for september and october are now expected to drop nearly 40%. >> we're actually seeing prices drop. so usually you see a drop-off in september in the fall of travel season, what we call shoulder season. we have seen that trend this year magnified.

>> global food prices dropping too down nearly 9% from june thanks in part to an agreement between ukraine and russia to resume grain imports. prices could drop even more thanks to lower transportation costs. and this morning, more deals for shoppers online where overall prices are down for the first time in more than two years. even housing prices could be coming down soon. realtor.com says housing inventory in the u.s. grew for a third consecutive month meaning a buyers market could be coming. experts say all of this suggests that inflation at a 40-year high could finally be cooling. a monthly report due out today is expected to show that year over year the pace of inflation in july fell to 8.7%. still high, but down from the 9.1% we saw in june. >> we do believe it's in the process of peaking, so, you know, that is hard to put an exact month on that or even quarter on that, but we do think it'll flatten out, and then we expect it to decline from here. we're encouraged by what we're

seeing. >> it's not all good news. most analysts believe gas prices will keep hovering around $4 through the fall, and with the war in ukraine raging and the fed meeting next month to discuss interest rates, there's still a lot of uncertainty in the economy. >> the suspect in the murders of at least two muslim men in new mexico says he's innocent. muhammad syed is accused of killing two fellow muslim men in albuquerque and he's considered a prime suspect in two other murders. detectives say syed denies involvement in the killings but acknowledged knowing one victim since 2016. police believe he had some kind of conflict with the men. a nebraska woman has been charged with helping her 17-year-old daughter have an abortion about 24 weeks into her pregnancy. abortions after 20 weeks have been illegal in the state for over a decade. prosecutors say they obtained facebook messages in which the mother and daughter discuss plans to end the pregnancy with abortion pills. facebook is explaining its decision to e chs to law ement s n e valid ceedend

authorities. >> he placed surreptitious ecording devices in the home he shared with his wife. >> reporter: chen, who works as a radiologist submitting video evidence to the irvine police department. these are still frames of the video submitted in court documents. the husband stating that on three separate occasions i have video of her pouring drano taken from under our kitchen sink and pouring it into my lemonade. chen stating he first noticed the chemical taste in march and april of this year and that he was later diagnosed with two stomach ulcers, gastritis and inflammation of the esophagus. authorities say he's expected to recover. yu's attorney saying in a statement, i can tell you that emily absolutely and unequivocally denies ever having attempted to poison her husband or anyone else, adding, we are concerned these false allegations are being used by her husband to gain an advantage in the divorce case against her that he has recently filed. chen filing for divorce on friday alleging a pattern of verbal and emotional abuse. he has also submitted a
