august 10. kumasi: we have a check of our forecast. lisa: the sun coming up in another 20 minutes. it is 62 in the city, 57 with clouds along the pencil up. despina selah -- peninsula. we are in the low 60's in our inland valleys. there is a look at the 24 hour temperature change. it is a little on the cooler side and parts of the bay. the sun comes out in the next couple hours, upper 70's to upper 80's inland. jobina has a check on a problem at the toll plaza. jobina: if you are headed toward the bay bridge toll plaza, heads up to you. carpool lanes are currently shut down. we had a crash initially blocking six lanes. first responders were able to move things over to the parking lot.

injuries have been reported. you see the ambulance on the scene. we have not been given an estimated time as to when carpool lanes will reopen. we will check on those lights again, but at last check they were not on. expect this to cause delays if you are making her way into san francisco from the east bay. reggie: new details about the fbi search of former president trump's mar-a-lago compound. we are learning more about the timeline of the search as trump issues a new statement claiming it was a coordinated attack by democrats. jobina back at the live desk now. jobina: secret service agents were given 45 minutes notice before the fbi arrived in mar-a-lago. they alerted staff moments before agents arrived. the former president eventually found out from his son, eric. trump issued a new statement calling the search a horrible thing. republicans are rallying around trump. several allies have attacked the fbi, which is run by a trump appointee.

the justice department is also drawing criticism. >> it is hard to believe it is not politically motivated. we need to hear from the attorney general about this. >> nobody is above the law, but the law needs to be above politics. jobina: neither the fbi nor doj have commented on the search. the justice department has a policy of not commenting on active investigations. trump was given a copy of the search warrant could release it. monday was on the first time agents visited mar-a-lago. the fbi spoke with trump's lawyers and review documents in the spring. reggie: former president trump's been questioned under oath in new york about his deals made as a real estate mogul. he confirmed his appearance on his social media account. the civil investigation involves allegations that the trump organization misstated the value of prize assets, misleading officials. the new york attorney general's office says the deposition is one of the last missing pieces

in the ongoing investigation against the trump organization. kumasi: now we turn to education, a key focus of building a better bay area. as students return to school, one south bay district will require everyone to wear a mask as the state released safety guidance for the upcoming school year. ryan curry is live with more on this. ryan: good morning. the school district here in mountain view decided to go ahead with the mask mandate. unlike other districts in the bay area. the overall goal is to keep students in the classroom, and they believe right now having this extra precaution is the best way to do so. they are the only ones we know so far the bay area going ahead and doing this. according to the district, the main focus is about keeping track of where the community spread is. we know the cdc map in santa clara county shows a high level of covid-19 spread in the community. because of that, the school district is planning to go ahead

with this mask requirement. they could change this if that requirement drops below that high threshold. even then, the school district says they will keep some mask mandates in place for certain schools if there happens to be a spread of covid-19 in that particular school. we know other district across the bay area do not have this requirement. there are no requirements or mandates in place by the state or county. masks right now are only considered strongly recommended. we know the omicron subvariant that is going around now is highly transmissible. the good news is we believe the summer surge is over now, which is good news going into the school year. the school district trying to keep these students in the classrooms. that is their focus, they keep saying. they hope by doing this mask mandate that is what they will accomplish. we are live in mountain view. reggie: keeping a watch over

your health is a crucial part of building a better bay area and monkeypox continues to be a threat to our community. today, a walk in vaccine clinic will open at 8:00 a.m., following an emergency use authorization from the fda on the vaccine to try to help in a few different ways. >> it allows for use of the vaccine in individuals younger than 18 years of age. determined to be at high risk of monkeypox infection. reggie: the fda's action will also reduce the amount of vaccine given to each person, allowing health care professionals to stretch one dose into five doses. in the bay area, san francisco has topped 500 cases. here is a state senator pushing the state to do more. >> we need to push hard to make sure our state and local public health authorities are directing resources where they are needed most. reggie: the san francisco

department of health has received 23,000 of the 35,000 doses it has requested here and there has been no word on when more doses will arrive. kumasi: a state epidemiologist says we are at the tail end of the latest search in california -- surge in california the test positivity rate is 12.7%. it hit 16.3% last month. the cdc is reporting that ba phi variant now makes up more than 87% of cases in the country -- ba.5 variants now makes up more than 87% of cases in the country. there could be a breakthrough in covert prevention. a team at uc berkeley developed a nasal spray that -- appears to work against variants. it works differently than current covid vaccines. instead of targeting the spike protein on the virus, it goes to the heart of the virus as it attacks human cells. >> the virus reprograms the cell

license plates every year. this is in hopes of deterring crime and solving more cases. the bay area news group reports these cases -- cameras can go up as soon as next month. one councilmember says he is concerned about the reach of the technology and how the data would be used. reggie: in the east bay cannot watch where you walk. a local family just had a startling encounter with a deadly rattlesnake in their backyard. they caught it on camera. a reporter's live in the newsroom with one expert saying these sightings are on the rise for a reason. >> our snake expert tells us snakes in backyards are not out of the ordinary and are becoming increasingly common. this year, as the dry and hot weather continues, the snake calls are coming in in high numbers as snakes are out looking for irrigation, water, and shade. this is the rattlesnake the family found in the backyard of

their home on monday. they live near the black diamond mines regional preserve. they say the snake was about as tall as their son matthew. in hopes of protecting their dogs and three kids, two which are transplant recipients, the couple went to work, using two snake grabbers to get this one. we are told snakes are commonly looking for irrigation, water, and shade, all of which are in this garden feet away from where the snake was found and from their sliding glass door. >> just do not be complacent. understand they are going to be around. especially hiding in the shadows and cool areas. you just have to be careful. if you see them, do not freak out. just give them space. if it comes to a point where you can dispose of it, that is great, but do not put yourself at risk for it if there is a way can call somebody to do that or keep the animals and kids away. >> the family killed the

rattlesnake in their yard. the snake remover we talked with said they do not kill snakes and will instead relocate them in areas far from where they are found. our snake expert also told us it is now birthing season for rattlesnakes, which might explain why they are getting an influx of calls for snake removals. kumasi: this is an adorable update to a story we showed you last month. more than half of the 4000 beagles that were being mistreated at a facility in virginia have been rescued. over 2000 beagles are now being re-homes across the country. this comes after a nine-month investigation revealed more than 70 animal welfare violations at this research facility. if you are interested in adopting a beagle, you can do this through the humane society's website. reggie: you know i love a beagle. i also love penguins. new at 6:00, they are on the

60's in concord and today temperatures are coming up in our inland valleys and the fog is peeling back. noon time, it is sunny, the breeze kicking up downtown but still reaching 70 today in the city, mid 70's and lend with mid and upper 80's inland. reggie: students across the bay area get ready to go back to school. one district is requiring that everyone wear masks. the school district is keeping a mask mandate in place to offer an extra layer of protection for kids and teachers. this is an anomaly in the bay area. ryan: this is a little strange considering this might be one of the few school districts in the bay area that has a mask mandate still in place. most districts do not. they are only strongly recommending it. this school district is keeping it in place due to the fact that santa clara county is still having a high transmission covid

level according to the cdc. that is why they are keeping this mask mandate in place. the goal is to keep kids in schools for as long as they can. according to them, they are doing this until the cdc lowers that transmission rate. we do not know when that is going to happen. if that does happen, we do not know if that will lead to the school district lifting the mask mandate. there is the possibility the district could keep it in place. there is the possibility they could keep it in place on a school by school basis, meaning if a certain school has a spread of coronavirus in the building they will keep the mask mandate in place. we know how transmissible this subvariant is, but there are signs the summer wave is over. the bay area has a high vaccination rate. you can still get sick from it and the district would like to see students remain in the classroom as much as possible, especially considering the last

get to the bottom of san francisco's housing approval process. he has ordered an investigation of why san francisco has the state's longest timeline. the order comes after a year of escalating warnings and this will be the first review conducted by a unit created last year. >> if you want to go to housing in san francisco, there is no harder place and that is not acceptable because people in our city are struggling to afford rent. kumasi: the review will last at least nine months. happening today, bay area officials will be calling on governor newsom to sign legislation legalizing safe injection sites. a news conference starts at 9:00 this morning in san francisco. if this is signed, the bill

would legalize safe injection sites in san francisco, in oakland, and in parts of the los angeles area. they provide environments for drug users to consume and staff to help prevent deaths due to overdoses and provide other services. reggie: a former nfl star, marshawn lynch, is facing charges after police say he was driving. he was arrested in las vegas yesterday morning. police say he was driving erratically. photos appear to show his car without his left front tire. he played 12 years in the league, winning with the seattle seahawks. two days ago, that team announced he would be a special correspondent for them this season. kumasi: parts of santa clara county will be sprayed with insecticide after officials found mosquitoes positive for west nile virus. crews will spray parts of a zip code starting at 10:00 p.m. thursday. if you live there, you do not

need to do anything because the spray is not a risk to people or pets. it is common to see an uptick in west nile during the summer and in warm weather or with stagnant water. reggie: in less than 30 minutes, president biden is expected to sign new legislation boosting health care for veterans. this will be a major help for millions of euros. jobina: it expands access to veterans exposed to toxic burn pits. this is a live look now of washington, d.c., where the president is set to sign the bill around 7:00 a.m. our time. the bill was approved by the senate last week after a stalemate when some republicans pooled support -- polled support. that led to jon stewart protesting outside the capital. the bill ended up passing. the president described the legislation as the biggest expansion of benefits for service connected health issues in 30 years.
