san francisco police are investigating a robbery this afternoon at a high-end union square store. it happened at the bottega veneta store on geary street near grant avenue police say several suspects entered the store around 1:30 this afternoon and stolen unknown number of items possibly worth about $50,000 bottega. vanetta is owned by gucci and sells luxury clothing and handbags. the suspects have not been detained. protest protesters against asian-american pacific islander violence rallied outside san francisco's courthouse today during a hearing for a man accused of attacking a community leader gregory 2 who is in his 70s was beaten near his home in soma eight days ago as we reported. eric eerie faces charges for the attack he has not been charged with a hate crime though some think that should be considered when someone walks liz a block away from his home and then someone gets off a bike jumps on punch in the face then beats him off of no reason gets back on

inject someone. with a sedative without having more facts for you to justify it in san francisco this croix abc 7 news. in a landmark ruling today a federal judge ruled that walgreens had a significant role in creating san francisco's opioid drug crisis city attorney david chu accused walgreens of creating a public nuisance in the city by pressuring pharmacists to fill as many orders as possible and failing to identify suspicious orders walgreens is san francisco's largest distributor of prescription drugs. walgreens flooded our city with opioids we have seen how this heartbreaking epidemic has played out on our city streets costing our city millions upon millions of dollars to abate. more than 1300 people died from drug overdoses in san francisco over the past two years. the court will determine what financial damages san francisco will receive from walgreens said it will appeal the ruling in a statement.

the retailer said it never manufactured or marketed opioids nor did it distribute them to the pill mills. internet pharmacies that fueled the crisis a new number for the suicide and crisis lifeline was launched nearly a month ago now mental health advocates. we're hoping that 988 would be as easy to remember as 911 abc 7 news reporter. zach fuentes has an update now on how this number has helped people in the last few weeks. we first told you about the new 988 suicide in crisis lifeline days before it went live nearly a month ago the suicide prevention hotlines 800 number will remain active for some time experts. we spoke with before the launch agreed. it's not the easiest to remember in a time of crisis even as a mental health professional. now 988 is live in an action and those on the other end of the line say it's allowed them to help so many in need. he said at about i would say at 1200 a month call volume and it has increased with 98 with

increased first time callers callers calling around substance use and a lot of family members calling for support taylor kutz is the program manager of one of the states 13 crisis lifeline call centers. it's made up of around 20 staff members and volunteers. they go through six weeks of training roughly between 40 and 60 hours of training and continuing ongoing training. we have everyone from all walks of life. a very divers group good says many of them have lived experience with mental health crises out of respect for callers privacy could say they won't share specific stories of the staffs interaction, but their work has been effective train counselors strive to approach each call with empathy understanding and heart because that is the care that we all deserve more work is being done to add services to 988 at the state level --. bill 988 is working to add things like a mobile crisis unit that can respond to calls. it's making its way through the california state senate and so far has bipartisan support for now though 988 continues to offer key services and it's a number that experts say has a message that can't petered

vast stretches of restored wetlands. and so this whole flat land here was a mosaic of tidal wetlands when kendall webster gazes across the levees and farmland in southern sonoma county. she can envision the tidal marshes that once flushed water back and forth from meandering waterways to pablo bay a vast expanse of wetlands that the sonoma land trust and their partners are working to restore california is investing in climate the way no other state in the country is right now, so we think that this is that this is the natural infrastructure project that the state should be highlighting to make that vision a reality the trust has joined with save the bay and more than a dozenvironmental and land management groups urging caltrans and the state to remove the one barrier that could open up natural marshland across the entire north bay highway 37 first, it helps to understand that the highway is essentially a 21 mile levy with bridges and

other opening space in between with two lanes. it's also one of the most notorious bottlenecks in the bay area prone to flooding engineers expect even more challenges as sea level rise expands across the north bay shore line warner chabot is with the san francisco estuary institute, everyone. also agrees that the ultimate solution for highway 37 is to build a four-lane elevated causeway that raises the four-lane freeway, but there's an increasingly intense debate over when and what to build estimates for an elevated causeway which would allow open marshes to flow naturally run from 6 to 8 billion dollars. meanwhile caltrans is studying a less costly interim plan that would widen the stretch of the current highway while potentially pushing an elevated replacement years down the road. sonoma resident greg brasswell has clear sailing once he reaches a marina located next to the highway but often fights the heavy traffic to get there.

he supports a quicker fix with phased in upgrades and not have to build the mega project all at once. but then those pieces of infrastructure could be added on to a sea levels rise, but critics are concerned that the widening plan would still cost hundreds of millions of dollars and could be anything but short-term north bay congressman jared huffman is especially skeptical you really have to look critically at that. no one in their right mind is going to tear out a brand new four-lane freeway that cost half a billion dollars 15 years after its bill. it's just not going to happen and with the recent passage of major national climate legislation huffman and other supporters also see the raised causeway project as a historic opportunity not just to solve a traffic nightmare, but to build green infrastructure combating sea level rise by giving bay tides space to expand creating new habitats for wildlife and

sequestering carbon in a martian environment about 30,000 metric tons of carbon, which is the equivalent of about taking 6,000 cars off the road each year for kindle webster. it would also help restore miles of natural bay habitat on a scale. that would also be historic. this is a huge area and if we can get it right with transportation infrastructure wetland restoration and public access, then we can attract attention for this project as a project of national importance and perhaps help lead the nation into a better future in the fight against climate change. fascinating work here an idea whatever the configuration planners estimate that widening highway 37 would save commuters nearly half an hour during the peak commute and cut down on accidents significantly, which is a problem on 37. yes certainly is. all right. let's check on our weather now dan. yeah meteorologist sandy patel back from a couple of days off. welcome back sandia.

thank you, dan and alma was fantastic weather while i was off and i'm bringing you that lovely weather right now. let me show you live picture from our east bay hills camera as we pan around you can see just nothing but blue skies. we have good air quality here in the bay area and really temperatures that are in the comfort zone. i mean you can't ask for better weather than this. so let's take a look at live doppler 7. we do have a fewes of low clouds and fog we beginning to regroup right now area of low pressure that's been spinning off. our coast has been actually keeping the heat away, but it is starting to move northward a little bit and we're going to start to see high pressure over the desert southwest nudging in our direction and as that happens, will start to see a return of some of that heat but for the time being look at the ocean temperatures, i mean 65 degrees san francisco buoys 61 monterey bay bodega bay 60 when you have the wind coming off that ocean. it's a little bit muggy in places like half moon bay 64 degrees palo alto 61 the rest of you really humid. i should say the rest of you in

the muggy range 50 to 59 degrees temperatures are up, but at least it's not really extreme heat our warmest in lynn valleys got up into the mid and upper 80s today along the coast. we had some 70s as well blue skies right now from our golden gate bridge camera a a nice breeze 70 degrees in the city 75 oakland. you're in the low 80s around palo alto, san jose 79 half moon bay 68 degrees a live view from our sfo camera and you can see that seabreeze is what's keeping our temperatures comfortable as well 78 in santa rosa 80 in napa mid 80s concord fairfield right now as we look back from our emeryville camera towards san francisco. we do have the gusty winds fog low clouds and patchy. in the morning mild afternoon near the coast and a it's going to be warm inland and then hotter days are expected next week as you look here hour by hour the fog will push in over parts of the bay tomorrow morning. we start out with some patchy drizzle as we head into the afternoon. we will see some lingering low clouds, but it's not going to be a completely clear day.
