nation's capital. overnight, flash floods hitting the nation's capital. ed into floodwaters going into this business, overflowing the sandbags. the deluge, a nightmare for commuters, with trains across the region delayed for hours or canceled all together. rain pouring into drains on the d.c. metro. water gushing into the station. and in northern virginia, water streaming down the tracks. conditions on the roads not much better. north of the u.s. capitol, emergency crews using an inflatable boat to rescue someone trapped in a vehicle. in nearby maryland, the town of riverdale earning its name. >> today is the worst i've ever seen it. we've never had it where we can't get out of neighborhood at all. >> reporter: storms flooding parts of tennessee.

nearly four inches of rain submerging cars in chattanooga. >> we came, had to get our dogs out of the house and then move the cars over. unfortunately, one of them was parked there while it was waist-deep. so it's a little soggy now. >> this man kayaking what is usually 16th street. across the count ry, streets turned into rivers in albuquerque, new mexico. and after weeks of dry weather people in north texas finally seeing some rain just days after this massive land spout ripped across a town in the texas panhandle, winds topping 50 miles per hour. more than 100 flight also to be canceled. reagan was hit the hardest. the otbig story this.

it was reportedly an informant who tipped off agents about documents at mar-a-lago. mitch mcconnell now calling for an immediate explanation. abc's ike ejiochi has the latest on both investigations. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. the search at former president trump's home was initiated by a conversation federal agents had with trump and his associates two months ago. this morning we're learning more about what initiated federal agents executing a search warrant at former president trump's florida according to news week, back in june, someone familiar with the story says there may be more

private documents at his club. they retrieved 15 boxes. two months later, agents were back, c executing a warrant, a warrant that would have had to convince a federal judge that there was evidence a crime may have been committed. christopher wray was asked for details on the search. >> it's not something that i can talk about, so i'd refer you to the department. as to the issue of threats, i will say that i'm always concerned about violence and threats of violence against law enforcement. >> reporter: leading republicans continue to demand answer, even bringing up hillary clinton's e-mai e-mails. >> we skcan't have a two-tiered justice system in america.

investigators in northern california are widening their search for kiely rodni who was last seen at a party in lake tahoe early saturday. the last known image of the 16-year-old shows her shopping in truckee before driving to a party at a campground. two other newly released images show a hoodie that she may have borrowed at the party and also her missing honda. officials say no one reported

seeing her leave the party. the fbi and sheriff's office believe she may have been abducted. we turn now to that deadly home explosion in evansville, indiana. we learned overnight just how powerful it was. here's abc's christine sloan. >> reporter: this morning video shows the aftermath of an explosion that rocked a community in indiana killing three people and damaging more than three dozen other homes. 11 of them, officials say, are now destroyed. >> it felt like an earthquake. >> reporter: surveillance cameras captured the blast from a nearby street. the explosion leveling that home and tearing a path of destruction through the neighborhood. >> we saw the huge plume of smoke come up from the house -- from the scene, and there was insulation and debris falling on us like snow. >> we just hear just a crazy boom, and our whole house

shakes, so we immediately ran outside because we didn't know what happened. >> i was just getting ready to come into work, and my wife and i could feel the house vibrating from apparently that blast. >> reporter: rescuers racing to the scene. >> we need everybody back. >> people were laying on the ground. >> there was a female already rendering aid to one person on the ground, and i started to help her, and the police came up, and naturally they issued me out of the way. >> reporter: the atf and state fire marshal's office are now trying to figure out what triggered the explosion. authorities turning off the gas and electricity. >> can't be confident the structures aren't safe to enter, so there may be somebody still in there. >> reporter: some residents just thankful they weren't home at the time. >> just so happened to not be there because it was the kids' first day of school. >> reporter: the red cross is helping those left homeless. investigators still not saying if there was anything criminal about the explosion, only that they'll know more once they survey the area. mona, rhiannon. >> christine, thank you for that. coming up, cruising into trouble.
