maybe throw a 60-yard bomb on the first play just to get the defense loosened up now. we've heard reports that trey's been up and down in training camp and part of that could be his inexperience, but it also could be the niner defense is expected to be really really good this season. he niner defense ryay at practicee tousn and the 49ers don't really scheme specifically for that defense. they're not trying to trick him or anything. so he's really about 50% or less completion percentage wise in the preseason, which had some people worried but he did finish strong. he had some really good practices towards the ends of camp and that is gonna inspire some confidence heading into today. i know you just came down from the press box and you grabbed a copy of the 49ers depth chart.

we send to the president's desk a monumental bill that will be truly for the people the legislation extends subsidies for affordable care act subscribers allows medicare to negotiate prices on some prescription drugs lowers the deficit and includes 370 billion dollars to address climate change americans looking to buy an electric vehicle would get a break including a 7500 tax credit for buying certain new electric vehicles and $4,000 for purchasing used ones. plus tax breaks for americans who make their homes more energy efficient by installing solar panels the bill perfect timing for virginia white who is now switching to solar it made economical sense since i've been here my bill has been going up and up. the massive climate change commitment comes as experts continue to sound the alarm about global warming a new study finding that antarctica's ice shelves are crumbling at its edges with experts predicting the largest shelves to away, and

the next 10 to 20 years advocates hoping this bill helps slow down emissions and global warming. the whole point of the bill is to put money into areas that that improve the climate. this bill gets us not all the way there it gives us about 40% below 2005 levels, but it does about two thirds of the additional work that we need to do in one single piece of legislation that's momentous on its own and no work yet on when the president plans to sign this bill. it is considered a major victory for both democrats and the president biden fulfilling several of his campaign promises within one single measure. i'm working norwood abc news, los angeles the inflation reduction act might be a bit misleading in its name because the biggest could be an unprecedented climate investment. billions of dollars will be spent to come back climate change california, senator. alex. padilla says some of that money will go toward wildfire prevention as well as the current drought. the inflation production act will reduce carbon emissions by

40 percent in the next eight years. that's right 40% by end of the decade. the measure includes billions of dollars to address catastrophic wildfires and historic drought in to support healthy fire resilient forests and forest conservation. another aspect of the inflation reduction act is democrats say it will create lots of green jobs while driving down energy costs the san fernando valley is considered one of the hottest places in la county in addition to the heat. yeah a ton of concrete and very little green space as abc meteorologist ginger z reports. the community is experimenting with new technology to help cool those temperatures. it looks like a neighborhood art project. but it's this la community's newest weapon against climate change. pacoima sits in the san fernando

program to extend alcohol service past a key vote in the state legislature this week proponents argue extending service hours is critical to help nightlife recover from the pandemic however efforts for this change have been shot down in the past, i guess like the question is do you really want people out till what 4 am instead of two instead of two do we? really need that i mean. what good is happening at three o'clock in the morning? typically nothing so i don't know. well sandy you hardly drink and kristen you don't drink at all casey. it's you and me. oh, that's wow. well, we're the most fun to discuss this. i think go for it. yeah, go for it. first of all, i don't drink so i don't know larry gets i hardly drink. shut it down by 11 pm. i'm good with that. casey yeah, so i'd say about 20 years ago. i would have been really excited about this now that i have two kids.

i can't even imagine staying up past two am so if it helps the businesses go for it. it's just you larry. it's just i i i'm not in favor of it either. i understand the businesses and all that, but i just think it's 2 o'clock in the morning is you know, if you can't accomplish your goal by two it's not gonna happen. okay. all right, speaking of goals can a casual game of cards help solve a cold case virginia law official certainly hope so they handed out what they're calling cold case playing cards to inmates at one city jail each card displays a photo name and details of the unsolved case on the back is a tip line if an inmate provides valid valuable information a reward will be given officials say it will be tempting to make a joke about a get out of jail free card, but i won't i won't go there you already did what? think of the idea. i mean it seems to make sense. i think it's like thinking
4:40 pm
outside the box, but what is the reward kristen? i mean, is it something that is enough to get some of these inmates to talk? i mean, they might be connected and know somebody who knows somebody who was possibly involved in a crime. i know what do you think casey the incentive? so i actually listened to a podcast called the deck and it is about these very. playing cards, which is interesting and really what the incentive is is the inmates can drop a dime so to speak and get their times reduced on their sentences and it actually helps a lot because people see these faces and go. oh wait, i know i know what happened to that person and and it really brings a lot of relief to the families who have just have no answers. so it's really really an innovative thing. i think it's creative. we'll see if it really works. moving on pickleball i'm told as america's fastest growing sport, although i doubt that even as i read it the game was invented in 1965 by three fathers in
4:41 pm
washington state and just in the last five years the number of players has apparently doubled i play. pickleball is the fast growing sport in the country right now. it's a cross between badminton tennis and ping pong. it's like ping pong on steroids. anyone can play it from your 7 year old niece for 80 year old grandmother and it's just a blast. i came from a tennis background. i was on tour traveling as a professional tennis coach pandemic hit us all and i went home to pennsylvania. the aging tennis community had gotten into pickleball. i picked up a paddle went to went to the courts and fell in love. it was working hard at the riviera country club here in los angeles, and so happened to work with a couple stars met a guy craig coyne. who's a good friend of mine. now who was riding an article for vanity fair and after he kind of saw my clientele and i was building he coined me the coach to the stars pickleball, especially in doubles. there's not as much room to go around people. so you have to place your dinks in a proper position. you have to work with your partner to open up the court. so it's a lot of using your brain to create space and create
4:42 pm
time and really attack your opponent in a smart way, but beyond that it's just fun. i was a professional tennis player for four years and i've been playing pickleball for month the enticing thing for me is just the community and a lot more social than tennis ever was pickleball does have a lot more feel a lot more touch that's involved. it was a learning curve for sure. i think it will be in the olympics like a half a sport in 2028 is just incredible for something that is, you know, it's relatively new and my oldest students 95 where else would you see that different ages isn't sometimes make sense pickleball it just works. chris i'm going to defer to us our resident pickleball expert i played like five times. i don't know if i'm an expert but i will say it's a great family game because you saw people of different ages playing on the same court, right? that's not really possible in tennis or a lot of other sports. this is kind of an equalizer because you're using the wiffle ball. it's slower. so the reaction time the speed you can get people different ages and abilities physical agility playing together and that is so great for bonding
