>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. >> mercury rising. right now, it is a little hazy out there as we take a look at richardson bay in the north bay, san francisco, and diablo. the east bay is expected to get the biggest blast of heat. good evening. thank you for joining us. we begin with that summer sizzle coming our way. spencer joins us with details on an excessive heat watch. spencer: we have quite a hot spell coming our way. let's take a look at that excessive heat watch. this is important to keep in mind because there is a risk of heat-related illness if you are exposed to too much heat. this excess heat morning will be in effect from monday night

through tuesday morning. the high temperatures during this period will range from 100 to 105 degrees. here's a look at the heat coming our way monday, tomorrow. we expect the inland east bay and way far north to be anywhere from up or 90's to just over 100. tuesday, the hottest areas will be around 105 to 106 degrees. places like fairfield, antioch, up north of bear lake, cloverdale. many locations in those areas wednesday will still be up to 100, 102 degrees, but the heat will be tapering off. full forecast coming up in a few minutes. young: thanks. don't forget to check the forecast where you live any time on our abc 7 bay area streaming tv app. it also features live newscasts and breaking news just search

abc 7 bay area to download it for free. new developing news now -- thousands of kaiser mental health workers in the bay area in northern california say they will go on strike tomorrow. the clinicians are demanding kaiser boost staffing for mental health care. cornell barnard has details and kaiser's response. cornell: picket signs are being constructed at the emeryville headquarters of the union representing nearly 2000 kaiser mental health workers from fresno to the bay area who plan to strike on monday. many say they are burned out. >> we are here because kaiser has been completely negligent in how it is allowing us to work with our patients. cornell: the union is demanding the health care provider increase staffing. >> we got patients waiting 2, 3, or four months for their next

appointment. we all know you cannot do any kind of psychotherapeutic care when you got wait times like that. cornell: a new state law requires timely access to health care within two weeks in some cases. the strike threat comes after a bargaining session ended saturday with a tentative agreement on a wage increase for clinicians, but issues over staffing and working conditions cap both sides from reaching a deal. in a statement, kaiser permanente said strike is an unnecessary tactic to increase the union's leverage at the bargaining table, making it harder, not easier, to deliver until health care. the union says about 20% of the nations have left kaiser. >> we cannot continue to do this at a time when mental health has become a national crisis. a national crisis. kaiser is still not stepping up. >> 4000 health workers statewide launched a five-day strike demanding kaiser shorten patient wait times and reduce therapist

caseloads. unlike that action, monday's strike is open ended and could go on indefinitely. dion: also happening tomorrow, nurses in st. lucie will hit the picket line in an effort to increase the hospital's nursing staff. the one-day picket is set to start at 1:00 p.m. the hospital. nurses say there's a nursing shortage that jeopardizes patient safety. they say that since the merger in 2019 to become common spirit, they have seen a dramatic decline in staffing. common spirit did not respond to our request for comment. a monkeypox vaccination clinic is set to open tomorrow. sf general and kaiser permanente health clinics yesterday after they received about 10,000 doses. about 800 22 doses were

administered yesterday. the hospital's monkeypox vaccine clinical open tomorrow at 8:00. ucsf health says is it's providing vaccines as well, even for those who are not you cfs -- ucsf patients. we have everything you need to know about monkeypox including vaccine news and treatment on our website. an asian-owned sandwich stop in the tenderloin district is under siege. burglars have been targeting the business at least twice a week in the past the romans. it has gotten so bad that every window upfront has been boarded up by plywood. inside, merchandise has been cleared off shelves for safekeeping. the executive director of the tenderloin merchants association says burglars have stolen hundreds of dollars of merchandise and caused major damage to property. he says it is happening so often shop owners have even stopped calling police.

>> right now, the sense in the community is that the asian community is an easy target because it is safe to steal from them. you know you are not going to get hurt and not going to get caught. dion: reportedly the burglars have also figured out when community ambassadors patrol the neighborhoods. those ambassadors have recently even started wearing bulletproof vests after one was held at gunpoint. the group is asking the mayor for funding to expand the program and calling on supervisor dean preston for support. angry reaction tonight to that fbi search of former president trump's florida estate. that has triggered a warning for law enforcement to be on alert. faith abubey has new reaction. faith: some republicans on capitol hill have accused the

fbi of overstepping and playing politics. "the fbi raid on president trump is abuse and an overreach of authority." the white house responded. "the department of justice when it comes to law enforcement is on its own." >> losing faith in our federal law enforcement officers and our justice system is a really serious problem for the country. faith: arkansas's governor call for patients and voiced support for the fbi on cnn. >> the fbi is simply carrying out their responsibilities under the law, big lawful search warrant that a magistrate signed off on. faith: the department of homeland security and fbi saying in a joint intelligence bulletin obtained by abc news that there has already been an increase in threats and acts of violence

against law enforcement, the judiciary, and government personnel in response to the search. dion: a california lawmaker is visiting taiwan. a bay area congressman is among legislators on the unannounced two-day visit. officials say the group will meet with the taiwanese president. the five-member delegation is visiting in a show of support for taiwan. earlier this month, speaker nancy pelosi visited taipei. in response to china, which claims in a critically governed taiwan as its own territory. china has not yet commented on this congressional visit. emergency crews responded to the napa fair last night. here is why -- a ride gone awry. we find out exactly what went wrong. also, getting back on track.

dion: it is day nine of the search for missing teenager kiely rodni. volunteers joined law enforcement this weekend to look the 16-year-old. she went missing august 6 after leaving a party in truckee attended by as many as 300 people. law enforcement says they have received more than 1200 tips from the public. investigators say they have grown frustrated by the lack of credible leads in the case. the san francisco police department hold a virtual town hall meeting tomorrow to discuss

last weekend's shootout in the mission district. officers say they return fire with a man in his 50's who was running away while shooting at them. the man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. the town will be live-streamed tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. on the city's youtube and facebook pages. in north l.a., a thrill ride gave people more than they expected at the napa town and county fair. they got stuck last night on a ferris wheel called the rampage. inspectors are trying to figure out why that ride malfunction. emergency crews were able to get all 10 people off the ride within an hour. the good news -- no one was hurt. part is repairing a section of track in the east bay that was damaged after a train derailed last month -- bart is repairing a section of track in the east bay. riders are told to expect delays of up to 20 minutes.
