bay area. thanks so much for joining us. we begin with our summer sizzle coming our way. spencer has been watching this excessive heat watch and when temperatures will peak. spencer: they are certainly getting hot or going to get hot in the bay area. let's take a look at that excessive heat watch which will be in effect from tuesday morning to tuesday evening for the interior north bay mountains, the interior east bay valleys, the eastern hills, and the eastern mount hamilton area -- i should say the eastern santa clara hills and mountains. high temperatures may range from 100 to 100 five degrees. stay hydrated if you will be outside and try to avoid overexposure to the heat. heat starts kicking in tomorrow. we will see high temperatures at or above 100 degrees in a few spots, even higher on tuesday. i will have the seven-day forecast a little bit later. dion: sounds good.

thanks. find the bay area streaming tv app on apple tv, fire tv, and roku. thousands of kaiser mental health care workers in the bay area and northern california say they will go on strike tomorrow. clinicians are demanding kaiser boost staffing for mental health care. cornell barnard has details and kaiser's response. >> picket signs are being constructed at the emeryville headquarters of the union, representing nearly 2000 kaiser mental health workers from fresno to the bay area who plan to strike on monday. many say they are burned out. >> we are here because kaiser has been completely negligent in how it is allowing us to work with patients. cornell: the union is demanding the health care provider increase staffing to help deal

with the increase in patients. >> we got patients waiting 2, 3, or four months for their next appointment. we all know you cannot do any kind of psychotherapeutic care when you got wait times like that. >> -- cornell: a new state law requires timely access to health care within two weeks in some cases. the strike threat comes after a bargaining session ended saturday with a tentative agreement on a rate -- wage increase for clinicians, but issues over staffing and working conditions cap both sides from reaching a deal. in a statement, kaiser permanente said the strike is an unnecessary tactic to increase the union's leverage at the barding -- bargaining table making it harder, not easier, to deliver until health care. the union says about 20% of clinicians have left kaiser. >> we cannot continue apace when mental health has become a national crisis. kaiser is still not stepping up. cornell: in december 20 19, 4

thousand kaiser middle health workers statewide launched a strike demanding kaiser shortened patient wait times and reduce therapist caseloads. unlike that action, monday's strike is open-ended and could go on indefinitely. dion: also tomorrow, nurses at st. mary's medical center in san francisco will hit the picket line in an effort to increase the hospital's nursing staff. the one-day informational picket is set to start at 1:00 p.m. nurses there say there's a chronic shortage that jeopardizes patient safety. they say that since a merger in 2019 to become common spirit, they have seen a drastic decrease in staffing. common spirit did not reply to our request for comment. sf general and kaiser permanente help walk-in clinics yesterday after the city received about

10,000 monkeypox vaccine doses. sf general says it administered 822 doses yesterday and all walk-ins were served. the vaccine clinic will open again tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. ucsf health says it is providing vaccines as well, even for those who are not ucsf patients. and we have everything you need to know about monkeypox, including vaccines, symptoms, and treatment on our website, abc7news.com. an asian-owned sandwich shop in san francisco's tenderloin district is under siege. burglars have in targeting it at least twice a week for the past several months. it has gotten so bad at lee's sandwiches that every window upfront has been boarded up with plywood. supplies have been pulled off the shelves for safekeeping. the executive director of the tenderloin association says burglars have stolen hundreds of dollars in merchandise in every

break-in and caused major damage to the property. he says it is happening so often that shop owners have stopped calling police. other asian-owned tenderloin businesses have been hit as well. >> right now, the sense in the community is that the asian community is an easy target because it is safe to steal from them. you know you will not get hurt or caught. dion: he says the burglars have also figured out when community ambassadors patrol the neighborhood. those break-ins are timed before and after ambassadors start and leave their shifts. the ambassadors have recently started wearing a live proof vests after one was held at gunpoint. the group asking the mayor for more funding to expand the program and calling for supervisor dean preston's support. some angry reaction to the fbi search of former president trump's estate.

faith abubey has new reaction today to the rising threats against government officials. faith: some republicans on capitol hill have accused the fbi of overstepping and playing politics. the fbi raid of president trump is an abuse and overreach of its authority. the white house today responding. >> the department of justice when it comes to law enforcement is independent. this is what we believe and this is what the president has said. this is not about politicizing anything. faith: there is growing concern over the angry rhetoric coming from some republican lawmakers. >> losing faith in our federal law enforcement officers, in our justice system, is a really serious problem for the country. faith: arkansas' governor calling for patients as the investigation plays out and voicing support for the fbi. >> the fbi is simply carrying out their responsibilities under the law, a lawful search warrant that a magistrate signed off on.

faith: the department of homeland security and fbi obtained -- the department of homeland security and fbi say in an intelligence bulletin there have already been violent reactions to the fbi and law enforcement as a result of the search. the uncle and a california lawmakers visiting taiwan. a bay area congressman is among legislators on the unannounced two-day visit. the group will meet with taiwan's president. the five-member delegation is visiting the self-governing island show support for taiwan. you may remember earlier this month, speaker pelosi visited taipei. in response, china, which claims democratically governed taiwan as its own territory, conducted military drills around the island. china has not yet commented on this congressional visit. coming up, emergency crews responded to the napa fare last night.

dion: developing news -- it is day nine in the search of a missing teen. volunteers joined law enforcement this weekend to look for missing 16-year-old kiely rodni. law enforcement says they have received nearly 1200 tips from the public and investigators say they have grown frustrated by the lack of leads in the case. virtual town hall meeting tomorrow to discuss last weekend's shootout in the mission district. officers say they return fire with a man in his 50's who was running away while shooting at them. he was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. the town hall will be streamed tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. on the city's youtube page and sf dd's facebook page. in the north bay, a thrill ride gave people more than expected

at the napa county town fair. they got stuck on a eris wheel called rampage. inspectors are trying to figure out why the ride malfunctioned. emergency crews were trunk to get 10 people off the ride within an hour. no one was hurt. bart single tracking is happening this sunday and two sundays next month between pleasant hill and concord stations. riders are told to expect delays of up to 20 minutes. the transit agency blamed hot weather for causing a train to realm it last month that they need to repair. the track temperature reached 142 degrees -- causing a train derailment. several of the 50 passengers who were on board suffered minor injuries. much more to come, including how two-day the bay area got into the aloha spirit.

dion: on the peninsula, the annual a loja festival has made a comeback for a single day celebration in san mateo after a two-year hiatus. this year, pacific islanders brought a smaller version of the festival to life. included music, hula dancers, vendors, and of course, lots of food. >> it is just to show the warmth and sincerity of the hawaii people, and we want people to know we are all here.

dion: such a nice sentiment, right? this is the 25th year of the loja festival. looks like so much fun. i love what she said -- the warmth of the community really matching the temperature. spencer: let's hold on week -- let's hope we can hold onto that spirit for the next couple of days. it is mild outside and quite easy for the coastline. you can see it is quite gusty at sfo where wind speeds are 37 miles an hour now. other locations are breezy but not terribly gusty. let's take a look at our 24-hour temperature change. you can see most locations, especially away from the coast, are several degrees warmer than at this time yesterday. here's a view from sutro tower looking out over san francisco where it is 64 degrees. 75 in palo alto. san jose 80. 59 at half moon bay.

99 at fairfield, which actually hit 100 earlier this afternoon. 89 at livermore and lovely view from emeryville, looking westward. you can see just a hint of clouds developing new the coastline, but it is basically sunny right now. we will see patchy fog developing overnight. it will not be widespread. it will be warm to hot the next few days and excessive heat watch will be in effect in some areas on tuesday. it will be affected tuesday morning through -- this excessive heat watch will be in effect tuesday morning through tuesday evening. temperatures will reach 100 105 degrees in the interior north bay mountains, the east bay hills and the santa clara eastern hills and mountains, so it is going to be a very hot spell. just try to limit your exposure to the sun.

we will see patches of fog forming near the coast line. not very widespread, though, but pushing locally across the bay and locally inland. that will be the picture around 5:00 a.m. as the morning commute gets underway. overnight it will be pretty mild . low temperatures will generally be in the upper 50's to low 60's and tomorrow, sunny skies in the south bay with highs at santa clara, 89, san jose 95 at morgan hill. up to 80 degrees in redwood city tomorrow. downtown san francisco will top out at 76 degrees tomorrow. in north bay, we will see 96 in santa rosa. cloverdale and ukiah, 100. east bay highs, 82 oakland. the inland east bay will be our hottest region tomorrow with numerous locations. -- numerous locations hitting hour exceeding 100 degrees. it will be even hotter tuesday
