victory for former president donald trump after liz cheney lost the republican primary for wyoming sole's congressional seat. >> harriet hageman has received the most votes in this primary. she won. i called her to concede the race. >> reporter: one of the few republicans to go against the former president and perhaps the most prominent. cheney's loss was expected. trump endorsed her opponent harriet hageman and overing night wasted no time taking a victory lap. in a statement posted on social media he wrote, quote, congratulations to harriet hageman on her great and very decisive win in wyoming. liz cheney should be ashamed of herself and the way she actions and the sainct mopious words and actions towards others. now she can finally disappear into the depths of political oblivion. in her victory speech hageman referred to cheney but not by name. >> we do control the levers of

power when we hold our elections officials accountable for their action. >> reporter: speaking to a crowd of supporters some wearing the shirt that said fearless, cheney said she could have gone along with the claims by president trump that the election was rigged. >> two years ago i won the primary with 73% of the votes. i could easily have done the same again. the path was clear, but it would have required that i go along with president trump's lie about the 2020 election. >> reporter: and with more than four months left in her term, cheney making her goals very clear. >> this primary election is over, but now the real work begins. i have said since january 6th that i will do whatever it takes to ensure donald trump is never again anywhere near the oval office. >> reporter: but would she ever run against him? >> cheney's remarks will also fuel questions about whether she will run for president in 2024. we know she says that she has not ruled that out. >> cheney has said she will make

a decision on running the president down the road. she will serve out her term in congress until january, and in alaska republican senator lisa murkowski has survived her primary and advanced to november's general election. murkowski voted to convict former president trump and his empeople trial and sarah palin is one step closer to becoming a congresswoman. the former governor advanced in her effort to win alaska's only house seat. next, the legal wrangling after the fbi search of former president trump's florida estate. the next round takes place tomorrow off the affidavit used to justify that search. abc's faith abube joins us now from washington with the details. faith, good morning. >> good morning to you. the documents justifying the search at trump's residence has emerged as the latest flashpoint into the investigation into classified material found at mar-a-lago. this morning former president donald trump is calling on a judge town seal the affidavit that spells out the justification for the fbi's search at mar-a-lago, trump's florida residence, where agents

discovered highly classified documents months after sources say his lawyer claimed they had all been returned. trump himself took to social media and called for the immediate release of the completely unredacted affidavit and some top republicans agree with the former president. >> to me, until we see specificity within the affidavit, we will not have the kind of claire tie that the american people need to come to their own conclusions? the justice department opposes the release of the affidavit arguing it would reveal specific investigative techniques and co investigation. now a judge is decided to decide tomorrow on whether or not to unseal the document on a request from multiple media outlets including abc news. the fbi has interviewed former white house counsel pat cipollone and his former deputy about the classified documents at trump's mar-a-lago res dense. they are the most senior white house officials interviewed in the investigation. tomorrow's hearing on whether to

unseal the affidavit will take place in florida. last week the same judge agreed to unseal the search warrant and a list of items removed from trump's president. >> thank you. also in washington, president biden held a victory celebration signing a nearly $740 billion bill aimed at increasing inflation, cutting health care costs and fighting climate change. he handed his pen to senator joe manchin whose support was crucial. the president also joked about getting his support and joe, never had a doubt. joe had an operation on his shoulder. i want you to know that it wasn't because of anything that we did. he's in great shape. >> republicans in congress criticized the new law calling it a collection of pet projects for democrats to campaign on. no republicans voted for it. in ukraine, a second suspected attack but ukranian forces in crimea forcing thousands to evacuate. moscow is calling the explosions

states and mexico, is at a tipping point. the drought so extreme the federal government saying states like arizona and nevada will need to drastically cut back on water use. >> the prolonged drought afflicting the west is one of the most significant challenges facing our communities and our country. >> failure to ease water use risks not only the loss of the river but energy production, and according to a senior administration official uncertainty and conflict. we have reported on the historic lows of reservoirs across the west, especially lake powell and lake meade. over the past two decades at lake meade has increased by 130 feet, basically a 13-story building, and when you're up close you can see how gigantiht. lake mead at 37% then, now at just 27%. the federal government has the power to force the states under its emergency authorities to drastically reduce their water
