members will be teaming up with calfire to wildfires that have become so devastating in years past. the way it will work, they will have these military personnel trained to go out in five trucks which are designed to move into areas where the bigger fire engines cannot go. the goal is to help contain the fires faster. they are calling this a strike team which we have heard in the past. this one focuses on the partnership between the national guard and calfire. official say with more units it really is you to accomplish that goal -- it will be easy to come accomplish that goal. that is why they say they need all the help they can get. >> what you saw and in northern california over the last several weeks was a series of lightning fires that occurred.

during these thunderstorm like events, you end up with high winds. you end up with a fire that struck with a lightning strike andy burns 20,000 acres in just a few hours. ryan: it is devastating knowing how fast these fires can spread in certain areas. this has led to crews having to get creative with ways the respond better and faster. these trucks the national guard will be in look like normal pickup trucks, but it is designed that way because they want to national guard members to go into tight spots the big engines cannot go to to prevent those areas from spreading faster. kumasi: developing news on a cluster of fire near humboldt and trinity. the six rivers complex has grown

kumasi: they were heralded as heroes during the pandemic, and now farmworkers are continuing their work despite the risk. the spotlight did have an impact on working conditions but there is a long way to go. reporter: meet ramon snooki. he has been working the fields of california for decades. the backbreaking work was and relating through the pandemic. -- was unrelenting through the pandemic. >> i had a lot of fear. reporter: joaquin is the director at a nonprofit that provides farmworkers with food and housing work. >> they were not protected so we were providing masks, hand sanitizer, information. reporter: these workers getting some long overdue recognition. >> the pandemic did change how society sees farmworkers. it did give them a spotlight

with the work they are doing. reporter: a handful of state and federal bills have surfaced, aimed at improving wages and working conditions. >> talking about better housing, health care, clean water. services including mental health. reporter: ramon gave me a quick lesson and i learned it is even harder than it looks. >> he's asking, what are you feeling about doing this work? >> it is hard. i can already feel my hands are very tense. >> imagine doing this seven hours. >> i cannot imagine doing it more. reporter: ramon says many people do not last more than a day, a testament to those willing to do the work. john agrees. he is the owner of this farm. >> it is very important these people have a good opportunity here, have health care, have proper housing so we can maintain a proper workforce.

reporter: he says giving his workers the option of becoming a u.s. citizen would go a long way. >> errani frontline. the -- they were on the frontline. they were putting their health at risk and yet they cannot become citizens. reporter: in the meantime, keeping their heads down and getting the work done one bucket at a time. reggie: educators are getting an extra hand setting up classrooms. an increase allows them to deduct $50 more in school supplies. teachers often take on much of the classroom cost themselves. it is becoming a heftier price to bear with inflation on the rise. now with the limit from the irs for the first time in 20 years, educators are allowed to write off $300 from necessities off of the texas starting in 2023. some states will allow for additional deductions. with a new school year comes new guidelines and new norms.
