were in our pool outside when we heard the two planes collide and then when we looked up we saw the one plane like flew over our house and the one engine i think was like smoking a lot and then it kept flying that way and it started to go down and then when it actually hit the ground it like exploded so that's when we got out of the pool and we went out to see and it but by then the fire was pretty much out but then we saw a bunch of people over here and that's when we like found out that there was another plane we ran over to the street and we saw like it explode and the fire was pretty much out if it even was on fire. but it was pretty scary. what of the planes is described by the faa as a single-engine, cessna 152 you see it here with some yellow stripes crashed in a field that's next to the airport. runways one person was on board this plane.
6:01 pm
other plane with blue markings crashed into a building the faa says it's a twin-engine cessna 340 two people were on board. you can see a large patch of burnt grass nearby and firefighters. nobody on the ground was hurt. the watsonville airport is less than 20 miles from santa cruz. it's about 30 miles from san jose several roads around the airport were closed after the crash. this is an uncontrolled airport meaning it doesn't have a tower with air traffic control specialist guiding planes the airport though is open to the public and is used by many corporate and private aircraft. it has four runways, which you can see here two stripes of asphalt that can each be used in two directions at this time. we don't know where the planes rather we're attempting to land the santa cruz county sheriff's office the faa and the ntsb are all involved in this investigation. will of course keep you updated as we learn more. live in the newsroom stephanie
