to land at the same time. reporter: at watsonville municipal airport, a chain-link fence separated the wreckage of the crash from the grieving community, many of whom were home around 3:00 when planes attempted to land and collided in the air. >> there was a crash at watsonville. both of them went down pretty hard. reporter: one person was on board a single-engine cessna. the second plane, a twin-engine cessna 340 was carrying two. >> we saw it smoking. we saw an explosion. reporter: that caught on surveillance. footage shows a cloud ascending into the sky. another angle showing debris

falling to the ground, followed by residents running to the airport. pilate william armstrong described attempting to land at the airport moments after. >> when i came into this field for a landing, i was told something i didn't understand. runway 2.0 was closed and runway 927 was closed. that is all there is. reporter: it has been his home base for 15 years. different from a typical tower to airport with specialists guiding planes, this non-towered airport relies on direct communication between pilots. >> that is an exact location of where i am. reporter: the city and aviation community are mourning the tragedy. >> i will know who these people

are. i know several cf5s that fly this plane. i don't know which one it is. it is one of them. reporter: santa cruz county sheriff's office, the ntsb and the faa are involved. abc 7 news. reggie: mask mandates lifted in mountain view at schools after a four-year-old was forced home because he was not wearing one. reporter: good morning. the boys father saying he has developed mental issues. he cannot keep the mask on during class. the boy is smart. having trouble keeping the mask on, therefore leading to challenges with the school district over the mandate. according to video, it shows the

teacher pulling the boy out of class. the mountain view district is the only known district in the region to have masks required to start the year. they did that because transmission was considered high in santa clara county. there is a sudden change. masks are optional with the district. this happened thursday. the boys father did not want to share his last name but says it is tough not seeing his son in school. >> i'm watching my son, waking him up, getting him ready, get turned away. tears in his eyes. he doesn't know what is going on. he is upset. turned away and rejected. no kid deserves that. reporter: the attorney for the family went as far as to say this was against the rules from the district. they say he was healthy and

ordered to propose reductions to the probable cause affidavit. the magistrate judge who approved the warrant saying he is leaning toward the public seeing the written justifications of the unprecedented move. the justice adding "where not prepared to find the affidavit should be fully sealed." >> he understands the public will be entitled to some parts of this warrant application and affidavit. reporter: the judge's willingness to unseal this coming after lawyers from news organizations are due the sensitive documents should be released because "transparency serves the public interest in understanding and accepting the results." trump's lawyers inside the courtroom thursday but taking no action to support the release despite trump saying on social media he wants the full version

unsealed. the justice department wants the affidavit secret, claiming publicly releasing sensitive documents at this point could jeopardize the criminal investigation. since the search, angry trump supporters have called for violence against federal investigators. doj lawyers are concerned about witnesses, adding a redacted version of the affidavit would be so heavily blacked out "there would be nothing of substance left." >> it is not the government's job to tell the public what is meaningful in terms of the release of its own information. reporter: they have until next thursday to file and then a judge would decide whether to unseal the affidavit. abc 7 news. jobina: the challenges san francisco faces with homelessness and supportive housing.

lewis peña spoke to doctors. reporter: for nine months, doctors in l.a. checked the levels of 2500 people. >> their antibody levels went up, signaling in fact around an earlier time, their immune system had seen the virus. reporter: blood levels confirmed during the omicron surge, 44% of people part of the study knew they were infected with covid. 56% had no idea they had antibodies. >> we start to see that second antibody level go up and a lot more people. that was the omicron surge. reporter: your level of natural immunity could be correlated to the level of infection you were exposed to. time is important to detect these antibodies. >> most people will still be

jobina: some compassion for this moment in massachusetts. a disoriented woman in her 70's drove her suv into a mall traveling 60 yards down the second floor of a pedestrian walkway. the vehicle was able to enter the mall because of a safety barricade missing due to a recent accident. the mall sensor doors opened, allowing the vehicle to travel inside. the woman stopped her suv on her own. officers later backed it out of the mall. no one was hurt. a warning about oysters. christine sloan explains people died after eating the shellfish from louisiana. reporter: oysters, considered a

delicacy. alert this morning after people in florida recently died of a rare bacterial infection linked to eating raw oysters. one of the victims, 55-year-old rodney jackson of pensacola, air force veteran, father and former banker who helped minority businesses. >> we don't know how we are going to do it without rodney. it will be hard. reporter: jackson, who got the oysters from a seafood market, had mild symptoms and then trouble breathing. in south florida, another man got sick and died after eating raw oysters in july at a crab house in fort lauderdale. the manager saying on that day as many as 100 dozen oysters were served. raw oysters can contain bacteria, found in warm seawater, especially during summer, which causes fibrosis. cdc says each year 80,000 people
