our reporter takes us to an an event designed to to keep the virus from spreading, and another that focus on eight -- that focuses on a recovery phase. >> we are going to get a vaccination. reporter: she just got her son'' their immunizations is suggested for public schools. her family recently came from ukraine. >> it is important to have vaccinations, so -- to have children not so ill. reporter: the free back-to-school vaccination event was held at the new southeast family health center in the bayview district, providing access to all families. >> we know how hard the last two and a half years have been with covid. reporter: dr. phillips says the pandemic likely delayed many parents from getting their children protected from covid and other viruses. >> we now know how incredibly important it is.

vaccination event in oakland tomorrow. a wellness clinic will hold a vaccination event from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., right across from the center at 533 lake park avenue. it will be the first in a series of sunday clinics running through september 25. it requires pre-registration, which can be done online. and we have everything you need to know about monkeypox, including info on vaccines, symptoms and treatment, all on our website, abc7news.com. two men were wounded in a shooting in union city. police say just before midnight, two men were shot at mexico vinda. both are expected to survive. the restaurant manager says a suspect hit a car outside of the restaurant as he sped away. investigators will not say if they have made arrests, but they say it was an isolated incident. police are asking the public for help with information about the shooting. to developing news, search and

recovery dive teams are joining in the search for a missing woman. the adventures with purpose group is made up of volunteers who help families of missing people. 16-year-old rodney was last seen in august at an outdoor party in truckee. as part of the search come officials held a sex offender compliance sweeps throughout the north tahoe area on thursday. the sheriff office says at the sweeps found at several registered sex offenders were violating their terms of release. one person was arrested and criminal charges will be filed against a second person. teens and young adults from all over held a rally and march in support of reproductive rights. the group is made up of local high schoolers, and many told us that they were deeply disappointed in the u.s. supreme court decision to overturn roe v. wade. they are supporting an amendment that would preserve abortion access in the california constitution. >> nobody that is not the person

having that happen to them should get to choose, it is a personal choice and that is why abortion rights are important. >> the california catholic conference opposes the amendment. state voters will decide on november -- in november on proposition 1. the war in ukraine now, the u.s. is sending more military aid to ukraine as the war enters at six-month. we explain exactly what the aid includes and why it is a first. reporter: the u.s. announcing another massive military aid package for ukraine valued at $775 million. it will include more ammunition from the high mars rocket systems, and for the first time the pentagon is sending reconnaissance drones to better identify key russian targets. this latest round of military

aid comes as the standoff in is that parisian continues. heavy shelling at nuclear plant has many fearing a catastrophe. we were there as hundreds of ukrainians fled. >> we were told there would be a convoy of cars coming from the russian occupied areas, and here they are committed taking everything they can with them to safety. reporter: the ukrainian president met with u.n. secretary general, who says the area around the plant should be demilitarized. >> it's urgently needed to establish the region as having civilian infrastructure and to ensure the safety of the area. reporter: in a phone call between vladimir putin and the french president, both parties agreed to an independent inspection by the international atomic energy agency to inspect the plant as soon as possible, and assess the situation on the ground. ukrainian officials have shared a video of russian vehicles in

the plant, accusing russia of using the plant as a military base. we have not verified the date the video was made. president zelenskyy vowss to take that control of the plan. ukraine says russia is looking to disconnect the plant from ukraine's electric grid and redirect power to the russian grid. kumasi: firefighters are reporting progress in containing a number of wildfires east of eureka. >> containment at the lightning complex fire grew to 81% this morning. 40 square miles in humble in trinity counties have burned. stable weather is helping the fire crews shore up the lines. the fires started on august 5. of the 12 that ignited from lightning strikes, only two of them are actively burning. local firefighters have played a role in bringing these fires under control. this strike team from alameda county recently returned after a

12 day deployment at the six rivers complex. firefighters from alameda county, oakland, fremont and he were dispatched as part of the emergency services mutual aid response. the strike team is back home safe after helping on the fire lines. in the east bay, after a two-year hiatus, the chinatown street fest is back. the oakland chinatown chamber of commerce is to liberty 33 years of the annual event, highlighting local businesses. hundreds attended the weekend celebration. the event has art, stages with a lineup of cultural performances, and lots of options for food. the festival will happen today and tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. ahead, an actor who has had run-ins with the law before faces new charges.details are coming out about incident s that led to terminal sexual contact charges against gary busey. and it seems like fewer of us

it was the strike's fifth day. the workers want reuses and for kaiser to hire more therapists. oakland is only one of four locations where they are picketing. kaiser urged the union to resume negotiations, saying they cannot afford a proposal reducing the time to care for patients and their mental health needs. after gary busey been arrested for alleged sex crimes at a monster mania convention. the annual convention was held in new jersey last weekend. he was charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, one count of attempted criminal sexual contact and one count of harassment. authorities say that at least two victims were allegedly groped at the event. police are investigating after receiving multiple complaints. the parent company of regal cinemas is expecting to file for chapter 11 for group c. regal cinemas -- bankruptcy.

love and support for an outfielder from utah whose team is playing in the little league world series. the boy is recovering from emergency surgery after fracturing his's call after he fell from a bunkbed. he's updated from critical condition to fair condition. he goes by the nickname tank. he watched the game yesterday and it cheered on his fellow teammates, but it appears although baseball is cheering him on. >> i know how excited i was the play in the little league world series. there is something about baseball that brings people together, it is an extended family. dion: that was the message. tank's team lost in their series to williamsport, pennsylvania. they must win tomorrow to avoid illumination. -- avoid illumination. -- elimation. spencer: we are all pulling for tank. and we all love baseball.
