friends of hers who were with her the night she was last seen tell me they have received confirmation from authorities that it is her. an suv and pulled out of the prosser creek reservoir in truckee late sunday afternoon. authorities go so far as to cover the windows with tarps so that no one could see inside. this comes hours after divers who are part of a private search group on youtube called adventures with purpose posted to facebook saying, "we just found kiely rodni. car is upside down in only 14 feet of water. family notified. law enforcement on the way." the nevada county sheriff's office only saying, "we are on scene and working with adventures with purpose to locate and remove the vehicle in question. from a distance, you can see the vehicle taken out of the water looks just like the vehicle she

was in, the 16-year-old who was at a party on august 6, one that is said to be just a few yards away from where this car was found. adventures with purpose had only been searching for 24 hours when they cling to have found her. days after she went missing, a friend of hers told me in a zoom conversation that kiely was heavily intoxicated and would have been unable to drive away on the dirt road the party was on. a friend told me sunday she and others are heartbroken. so many questions tonight. the main being -- is this kiely rodni? if so, how was she missed during these first searches? was sonar used on that water initially? how thorough was the initial search or was the vehicle even there the whole time? there is a press conference

scheduled for 11:00 a.m. monday morning. dion: still so many questions. much appreciated. adventures with purpose was featured earlier this year on abc's "nightline." its founders explain how they got into roaming the country and searching for people. >> i started a youtube series called adventures with purpose in july 2018. it was getting in the water, showing what was out of sight, out of mind, picking up pop cans, anything i can find. >> when did you make that shift, trying to clean up the bottom of the lake to trying to find pieces of evidence from previous cases and find human bodies? >> it became a calling. when a family reached out to me in fall 2018. they had seen these videos we were putting up on youtube was finding vehicles and pulling them out of the water. they reached out and said, we

have a lost loved one. we believe he was in the water. can you come help us because nobody else is helping us? dion: on its website, adventures with purpose says it has helped solve 23 missing cases since 2019. we sent out a breaking news alert on the discovery just after 5:00 p.m. the abc 7 news app is one way to stay on top of stories like this one. moving on to developing news in oakland where an elderly asian woman was killed in an attempted robbery in the little saigon neighborhood. police take it happen around 2:45 this afternoon on avenue near 11th street. sources tell me the woman and her partner were at their parked car at the time. the little saigon neighborhood and the surrounding area has seen a string of crimes recently, including the deadly shooting of an uber driver last month and several business

burglaries. also in oakland, a man's body was found at about 5:30. investigators say he suffered blunt-force trauma, and at this time, they are treating his death as a homicide. no other details are available right now. one person was killed is a triple shooting in san francisco's mission district. police say there were three people with gunshot wounds and a fourth person with other injuries. one of the gunshot victims died at the hospital. no arrests have been made. people from across california fighting to prevent deaths caused by drug overdoses took their message to san francisco city hall today. they held a rally in honor of national prevention and awareness day. more than 2100 people have died from overdoses of fentanyl in san francisco since 2019. speakers included first responders, recovering addicts,

and parents of fentanyl users. >> my son struggled with mental illness, and i believe he was trying to self medicate. and then all the sudden comes fentanyl, and that was the end for him. dion: today's crowd also heard from the san francisco district attorney. >> just a few weeks ago, i announced new policies with respect to the way we will handle drug sales cases, particularly fentanyl cases, and that no longer will we have decriminalized the sale of such a deadly and potent drug. dion: today's event was put on by the organization mothers against drug deaths. a mother of a seventh grade student is scared to send her daughter back to school after she was brutally attacked on campus by another classmate. as dustin dorsey explains, after several other incidents, the mother is calling on the school to take safety more seriously.

and a warning -- some may find this video disturbing. >> new year, newschool, new safety concerns for a south san jose seventh grader, just days after they return to campus. this graphic video from tuesday captures the moment say female student punches another girl repeatedly in the head. the school and school district are both aware of the video, and the victim's mother has shown police and held a report, but it is still almost too much to handle and she watches it back. how do you feel when you see this? >> i don't think i have words for what i feel. just the thought of it. every night, i cry myself to sleep. >> the student responsible for the attack was suspended for two days and the other girl suffered a concussion from the fight. both girls returned to campus on friday when another threat was

made. >> i got a call from school administrators that they had that something happened at lunchtime, and it did not happen because she had so many adult eyes on her. >> -- staff sent out a notice to parents addressing this and several other incidents at the school this year. it's a in part, "we really need your help by having a conversation at home with your children about safety." staff called on the students to speak up to help prevent fights. >> this is heartbreaking. i don't feel comfortable taking my daughter to school. she's not safe. >> the leaders -- the letter later said safety is a key priority. she says more needs to be done in the form of resource officers or extra staff security. she's concerned the school is not safe. >> it is really, really hard. i think if this girl's parents saw somebody doing this to their child, they would feel the same

dion: an expanded effort today to combat monkeypox in the bay area. we saw vaccination clinics open in the north and east bay today. cornell barnard was there. >> that redness, swelling. cornell: fernando barreto was among the first in line to get a monkeypox vaccine sunday. >> i just got my first dose of the vaccine, and i'm excited about it and a little bit less stressed. cornell: fernando says he has waited for weeks to find a shot. >> it has been hard for me to get access to the vaccine. i called several times my of care provider. cornell: this clinic and picnic

>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. dion: two sheriff's deputies and a police officer are off duty in arkansas after this incident. video shows officers punching and kicking a suspect while he is on the ground outside of a restaurant. authorities were called after the man reportedly threatened a clerk at a nearby gas station.

the county sheriff claims the man tried to attack officers for that recording started. all three officers are suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. first lady jill biden left isolation today while in south carolina after testing negative for covid. her comms director says the first lady isolated for five days and received negative results from two consecutive tests. she joined president biden today in delaware. the first lady tested positive monday while she and the president were vacationing in south carolina. it was the first time she had covid. an important update now from the i-team about a growing cryptocurrency scam that is targeting silicon valley investors. malicious apps are hacking into victims' phones, exposing personal information. >> this scam is evolving so fast, one wrong click could cost you your privacy. investigators say these scammers

impersonating legitimate crypto trading companies. what happens when someone downloads this? >> first of all, it will require you to provide different permissions to your phone. >> once you download the counterfeit app, scammers are granted permissions to your device, and you may not even know it. >> those permissions include the ability to remotely turn on a microphone, the ability to remotely turn on a camera on your phone. >> and it is not just access to your device's microphone and camera, but also -- >> to your photos. actually, even your location device, and it can be as exact as your longitude and latitude and where you are actually located at the time. >> investigators say the suspect may also have the ability to read and write on the phone. >> some of the links or some of the counterfeit or malicious apps you are downloading to have read or write capability. that means they have access to your email.

>> in some cases, victims are provided a url to download an app via whatsapp or text messages. investigators say the links will take you to counterfeit sites which will require you to log in. >> the biggest red flag here is downloading any sort of mobile application outside of, again, the google play store and the apple app store. >> but keep in mind, some of the sites will try to trick you. >> some of these are meant to look like the apple app store. they will even have ratings. they will say that it is an apple-approved app. >> yet both the app and website are fake. the worst point -- >> you cannot just delete the app and think it is off your phone. >> the invasion of privacy persists even after deleting the app off your phone. >> it is very hard. every morning i woke up i feel

a little cheaper at $5.39. two more communities in sonoma county are considering a ban on new gas stations. "the press democrat" is reporting santa rosa may adopt measures already in place in other areas of the coalition opposing new gas stations is spearheading the push. the organization was started in sonoma county and says the goal is to get local governments to transition away from using fossil fuels. the city of oakland is in a legal fight similar to one san francisco already lost. it is an effort to allow noncitizens to vote in a school board elections. the same organizations and law firm that won the san francisco case are now suing oakland officials to keep the proposal off the november ballot. they are arguing the oakland measure should be pulled because it has already been proven to be

of the pavement, but it will not be very widespread. another sunny afternoon and a much warmer day than we had today. overnight low temperatures will be mainly in the upper 50's. highs tomorrow, upper 60's at the coast, low to mid 80's at the bayshore line. the inland heat is coming back. here's the accuweather 7-day forecast. heat will ease up a little bit on tuesday, but there will be for -- further cooling wednesday, and that pattern that result on wednesday will continue into the weekend with high temperatures inland only around 90 degrees or perhaps just above. we do have a couple of days of rather warm to hot weather coming our way the next couple of days. dion: do we have any sites of rain in the forecast? spencer: i'm afraid we don't. it is not reasonable to expect any significant rain until the fall, and even then, if the last two falls are any indication, we should not have our expectations too high.

premier teams in the league, and it's always nice to be distinguished like that. chris: earlier this week, the cal football team had some special visitors stop by. guide dogs for the blind needing foster parents for those puppies. not just football parents, but anyone willing to take on a dog. >> i just remembered that it changed his life significantly. i have an appreciation personally for it. this is nothing that we mandate for our players, but a number of them looked to be eagerly awaiting their opportunity to help out at some point. >> just relax, take our minds off of football. >> for people like me who are blind and work with a guy down, it makes all the difference in the world, so we are super excited that we can maybe get the word out about becoming a volunteer for guide dogs for the
