>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. all i knew was i went around the side of the car and she was on the ground. >> and east bay dentist a shot and killed in oakland's little saigon neighborhood. her longtime partner recounts the horrifying details of what happened. i am ama daetz. >> police have called it an attempted robbery but her family and friends say nothing was taken and believe it was a hate crime.

>> dion lim sat down with those who knew her best and has the interview you only see on abc 7 news. >> i appreciate it and i loved her. it was very special. >> nelson held a special bond with his longtime partner, lillie hsu. an immigrant from china who blossomed into a highly accomplished and beloved dentist with practices in oakland's chinatown. >> all of her referrals. her business came from referral after referral because people trusted her and her work ethic. >> it is a bond of admiration and respect. the couple were on their way to get everest -- get a massage and little saigon. they never made it to that appointment. >> i heard two or three bangs and then all of this on a flash.

>> surveillance shows an older model lexus sedan. you can see a suspect emerge. multiple gunshots rang out and nelson says lily was hit twice in the back. nothing was taken. those five seconds change his life forever. quasi ran around the side of the car and she was on the ground. she was semiconscious but not able to really respond. >> nelson held billy in his arms until the emblems arrived. later that evening she was pronounced dead at the hospital. >> another murder in little saigon. >> little saigon and oakland community plus anger boiled over. lily's wide group of friends who just celebrated her 60th birthday earlier this month attended -- attended the rally and made the call for action. >> it needs to be safe for the people here and the asian people here. >> we want to live in a place

that number was 81 this time last year. armstrong says the department is adding officers, 30 new officers graduated days ago and a new police academy started today. now to breaking news at a fairfield where police shot a man who is now in the hospital. haricots police department says it happened around 2:30 this afternoon your central way and commerce court. they have not said what circumstances lead to the shooting. investigators will be on the scene for several hours and they're asking people to avoid the area. request breaking news enrichment. there is major police activity. sky 7 was overhead where police have set out numerous evidence markers. you can see that there and there was at least one person who died at the scene. you can see a crowd gathering as police investigate. we will bring you more details on this as they come into the newsroom. >> no information on the federal investigation into misconduct allegations by members of the as you police department. lamar thorpe confirmed that a

total of eight patrol officers are under investigation by the fbi and the das office. officials first announced to the probe. there are crimes of moral turpitude and more from the pittsburgh police department. >> as a result, they could increase the number of officers under investigation. a total of three officers are under investigation. request this would have created safe injection sites. the governor said he is concerned about the operation of sites with a strong local leadership.

he has instructed health and human services to convene city and county officials to discuss best practices. scott wiener authored the bill and called the veto tragic. >> they are investigating a police officer that dropped off a mentally ill man in san francisco, leaving him alone in a residential area with no resources. liz kreutz has more on the story. >> the incident was caught on video. you really have to do a double take. the police department is now apologizing but the people who live in the neighborhood want to know why he was brought across county lines and not provided any resources. >> it is not something san franciscans are likely to see. >> dropping off a man that

appears to be homeless and mentally ill. a shocked neighbor who asked not to be identified reported this video from the home across the street. he started causing trouble in the neighborhood. he seemed to like something on fire and then started throwing rocks. san francisco city attorney david chiu says his office is now investigating. >> it is disturbing to think that they would drop someone experience a homelessness in the middle of a residential neighborhood with no services or resources around it. it does not make for a good outcome. >> i want to acknowledge that we

made a mistake. cuesta lieutenant is -- >> lieutenant says the officers never should have driven him outside of san francisco. >> they just brought them to san francisco to let the city deal with it. >> i understand that is what it looks like and want to extend our apology not only to the san francisco community much of the first responders. legal action now is not at the table either. >> we will look told any jurisdiction accountable that is proven to engage in this behavior. any jurisdiction that is thinking about doing this needs to think twice. >> the spokesperson for the san rafael police department reiterated that drivers someone into san francisco is not part

of their policy whatsoever. he said they are addressing the issue internally with both the officer involved and the supervisor on duty who approved him doing this. in the newsroom, abc 7 news. >> what is the protocol? how should they have handled this when they picked him up? >> they could have tried to find him shelter or guide him to double transportation like a bus stop. resources are limited on what to take a person like this but they said unequivocally this should have not been taken to san francisco. >> today, san francisco police arrested a man they say attacked a 65-year-old woman as she walked down the street. this video shows the incident from wednesday, august 10 on 20 six ave. investigators identify the suspect as terrence chrisman. they believe he attacked another person in the area on the same day. you are asked to contact police if you have any information. >> after break, a tragic end to

found. and they think her body was inside. zach fuentes joins us with the latest. zach. >> authorities put in more than 20,000 man hours into the search but a volunteer group was able to do it in less than 24 hours. it is important to note that the nevada county sheriff says they have not positively identify the body but they do believe it is hers. the liquor car was found in had been searched by sonar and divers but it was that volunteer group went in with high end equipment and expertise that was able to make that discovery. they are called adventurers with purpose. they put soon our boats in the water. they detected an underwater object. they later confirmed it to be a vehicle they said was in 14 feet of water. the lake was extensively sourced with sonar, divers and swimmers. they said they would be debriefing to see how they

majority of pathogenic diseases are being made worse by climate change. dustin dorsey spoke with an infectious disease expert and has the details. question seemingly every day we learned about a new disease like we wanted with covid and monkeypox. there have been seven public health emergencies of international concern in the last 15 years according to the world health organization. there are lesser known factors that are partially to blame. >> viruses spread most efficiently based on not only humans getting together in different ways but when you think about human to human transmission but the whole relationship that humans have to the ecosystem. >> drought, rising temperatures and even fires. this could make disease more severe and give them less chance to cope. our climate crises have each

seriously. >> we have to do all of these things -- take climate change seriously. >> we have to do this so we can soften the blow. we have to mitigate the effects on our future generations and our families and communities. >> dustin dorsey, abc 7 news. >> the fire burning in humboldt and trinity counties are now 80% contained. it has burned more than 27,000 acres. while crews are getting a handle on the fire, the bay area quality management district is warning that some smoke from the fire is headed to our area. an air quality advisory has been issued for tomorrow. >> let's find out more about that and get a check on the weather for the week ahead. >> i would avoid outdoors a little bit tomorrow if you can. if you have any respiratory issues. they did issue that air quality

advisory. we do have a stiff breeze right now and pretty good air quality. that air quality advisory is due to the smoke from the six rivers company. you will notice everybody in the moderate category except the south central bank in the good category. it is good across the entire bay area. up to our north, not that bad at this hour. moderate for some parts but it is that fire burning into trinity and humboldt county area . the smoke from the fire is expected to drift. tomorrow at noon you will see some haze in the north bay. that, the forecast at 6:00 tomorrow night. you will notice more hazy conditions across many parts of the bay area. be prepared for that. it was definitely a jump up in santa rosa. 25 degrees warmer. we already had 95 in the

airport. you might want to go to the beach to enjoy the sunshine like some people are in santa cruz right now. here is a look at the temperatures. it is in the 90's for napa, fairfield, livermore. we are looking toward mount diablo from the tower camera right now. you can see the summer here. low 80's in san jose or santa clara. 64 degrees in half moon bay where they have some fog on live doppler 7. that wind is really just blowing from the ocean, gusting to 45 at sfo, the airport weather warning over the next few hours. you can see that shallow fog advancing. coastal and bayside fog. the fog will push in over parts of the bay. tomorrow morning we start up with the drizzle and fog as well. then we will hang onto some of the cloud cover going into the evening hours.
