driving a land rover ended up overnight. that elderly man spent the night in the spotted until tuesday morning, by a man who was about 70 years old who drove past and did something remarkable. >> he went back to the scene and tied a rope to his truck and tried to climb down the hill to assist this person. reporter: first of all c.h.p., fire crews and sheriff's officers ae.r.a.d. while they don't recommend climbing down a hill, there are grateful for the good samaritan's quick thinking. he's now recovering from various head wounds and expected to be ok. >> and breaking news in oakland where a woman was reportedly shot while driving today. just before 3:00 this afternoon on 17th avenue nearly -- near international in east oakland. the woman was driving only a --

along 1th. when someone shot at her. she drove another 50 feet before crashing into a parked car. shell is hospitalized. and oakland police are officering a $5,000 award for information leading to an arrest. >> flames were seen shooting out of one of the top floor united states in calster street in san francisco around noon. lina is on the scene and joins us with the latest details. reporter: yeah, the fire has been out for a couple of hours now and the streets as you can see behind me have just reopened within the past couple of minutes but the fire left a massive hole in one of the buildings you see right behind me and we're told 13 resident dent from that building have been displace and the each is working with the red cross right now to find temporary housing.

the fire broke out just after noon and quickly turn into a three-alarm fire bringing in more than 100 firefighters from across the city. flames damaged all three floors and the roof. one woman and three cats had to be rescued. we spoke with a friend of the woman who was rescued through the roof with her two cats and she says she is blown away by her bravery. >> one of them hilled pretty deeply and she was so scared she wasn't going to be able to get the cat out but she was able to do it all. i cannot believe that my friend got down that ladder, like -- i am not even afraid of ladders that much and that looks terrifying so we're amazed and nail and grateful. reporter: and this is a photo of the rescued woman. tack that, who managed to get her cats and get out safely. she sit -- sent it this picture from the hospital where she was

treated for smoke inhalation. she is doing ok and is going through the discharge process right now. the cause of this fire is still under investigation and as i mentioned, the avenue has since reopened but parts of mcalister right behind me are still closed so you're going to want to avoid this area if possible. abc 7 news. >> lina, thank you very much. another huge fire in san francisco this afternoon. this one on a pier at the end of van necessary avenue. the blaze broke out about 2:30 and destroyed a historical building belonging to the national park service which had been abandoned for some time. the pier no longer in use. no reports of any injuries and no word yet on how it started. >> two more fires happened near the site of a large homeless encampment in oakland.

this is one reported around 7:30 this morning on wood street and the second was about 11:30. last week firefighters responded to a large r.v. and debris fire in the same area. there have been 48 encampment fires so far this year. on friday, the governor's office sent a letter to the city of oakland threatening to pull state funds over the handling of the cleanup of the area. >> the third oldest lgbtq community center in the country is losing its home in berkeley. the building that has housed the pacific center for human growth has been sold. the new owners plan to raze the building and replace it with a new apartment build welcome 35 units. it's been there since 19778 and is the only sliding scale mental health clinic serving the lgbtq
