tuesday, he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injury. >> are you sure you can complete the test? i really don't want you to follow over and hurt yourself. that defeats the whole purpose of the test, grabbing on. j.r.: this sobriety test given in napa county and may came after pelosi's porsche collided with the jeep, injuring the man inside. reports show that when he gave his license to officers, he gave them an 1199 chb foundation card. >> when you hand over a card like that to law enforcement and you are in a car accident and you have been drinking, it certainly suggests that you want them to give you some kind of benefit of the doubt. j.r.: in the sobriety test, 80 two-year-old pelosi is seen struggling with his balance. >> i will give you a pretrial run for back of a letter term --

whether san jose should allow noncitizens to vote in election. amanda del castillo learns the city is a long way from any decision on this divisive topic. amanda: using their voices, demanding an opportunity to vote, in macon -- immigrant advocate groups rallied ahead of the study session, an effort to encourage leaders to extend voting eligibility in local elections to all residents regardless of immigration status. arturo says the move would present a vital opportunity for an estimated 200,000 residents who currently cannot vote. it is a way for citizens who contribute to the economy, pay taxes, and help shape the city to finally have a say. >> it is going to be a long fight. it is going to be a lengthy, strategic campaign. we want to make sure we continue to include our community. amanda: one longtime resident

ama: new poll from the berkeley institute of governmental studies shows governor newsom holds a commanding lead in his fall reelection bid, ahead of his republican challenger by 27 points. speculation is growing about whether he may have bigger political ambitions, like a presidential run. >> the only thing you can bet on and this is in hyper gear right now is the unexpected to happen, the things that you possibly said no way can be happening in one of those was gavin newsom. after the french laundry, his video and shots of him without a mask at the high-end restaurant at the height of the pandemic, everybody thought he was down and out. instead, he is making a comeback. newsom --ama: newsom could face a tricky situation.

dan: education is a key component of building a better bay area, so we are looking into the struggle to fill a shortage of teachers at san francisco schools tonight. teachers say they are overworked, underpaid, and are demanding a change. their union held a rally to start hiring. tim johns has this story tonight and more information on how the teachers suggest paying for their plan. tim: the u.s. department of housing and urban development defines low income in san francisco is anyone making beneath $82,200 a year and many of the teachers who spoke at the meeting today say they are making well under that. impassioned pleas tuesday night. a group of teachers from the united educators of san francisco gathered to colin linda -- to call on the district to negotiate with them. >> we need to get to the table

as soon as possible. tim: many teachers in the district are not paid enough to live in san francisco. >> in order to compete for the housing market, to commute, to buy lunch, to feed our families, we know what we need and we are looking for serious commitments at the bargaining table. tim: the lack of pay is only one issue. they want the district to fill dozens of vacant positions in the schools. they say staffing shortages is leaning -- leading to burnout. >> it is anxious for people to not know what their jobs are going to be from day to day, not knowing where they will be. tim: to pay for their demands, they are calling to use allocated funding. in doing so, it would not just be for their benefit, but also

for the benefit of the students. >> it is stressful, the education quality becomes difficult to maintain for anyone. tim: the united educators of san francisco want to hundred jobs filled by the district. i did reach out for comment, but have not heard back yet. abc 7 news. ama: santa clara county plans to start releasing more detailed information about its monkeypox cases. the public health department will release demographic data when it puts out the case count including the age group, race and ethnicity, and sexual orientation of each person who tests positive for the virus. the data table was designed with input from lgbtq plus community partners. santa clara county has reported cases to date in the range of over 100 cases. san francisco has the most of

any bay area county. according to the cdc, there are more than 2600 cases of monkeypox statewide. dan: a big fire brought traffic to a stop in the heart of san francisco this afternoon, forcing 13 people out of a three-story apartment elting ed mcallister and to visit aero. -- at mcallister abnd divisadero. one tenant and her cats had to be rescued. >> she had two cats and she was able to get the cats. they were hiding. they could not get out of the hallway. she had to go to the roof with two cats and climb down that entire letter to get to safety. dan: the rescued woman sent us a picture from the hospital where she was treated for smoke inhalation and released. she is fine. the cause of the fire is under investigation. ama: the mill valley planning

and then she broke off communication. >> the das office says she has until her november 4 sentence thing to come up with $155,000 in restitution for the 37 victims who requested refunds for the amount they individually paid. the das office said there were 40 dems and more than $200,000 lost, but not everyone requested restitution. if she doesn't pay restitution, she could be sentenced up to one year in custody and when you're of mandatory supervision. she would avoid custody if she pays restitution, but would still have two felony convictions and two years of probation. >> i do hope everybody does get paid back. >> her attorney says, we have no comment at this time. melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. dan: a former head of security at twitter says the company misread -- misled regulators and

was negligent in rooting out fake accounts. twitter's security chief until he was fired earlier this year filed complaints last month with the securities and exchange commission and the department of justice. a nonprofit is working with him and says the complaint claims major security problems that pose a threat to users' personal information and national security. >> getting to this point, where he is having to do this publicly , it was not his first, second, or third choice, but it is where he ended up after he had exhausted every other channel. dan: the claim could create serious legal and financial problems for twitter, which is currently trying to force elon musk to go through with his offer to buy the company. ama: a missing man found in san mateo after his car plunged some

300 feet down a cliff. a good samaritan helped with the rescue. >> this is the steep and rocky terrain of the cliffs where a missing elderly man driving a white land rover ended up overnight after tumbling more than 300 feet. >> there was a vehicle that had gone down the embankment. >> the elderly man spent the night in the cold and was not spotted until tuesday morning by a man who did something remarkable. >> he went back to the scene and tied a rope to his truck and tried to climb down the hill to assist this person that had gone down the hill. >> chp, sheriff's officers, and firefighters arrived. while chp does not recommend climbing downhill, they are grateful for the good samaritan's quick thinking. he is recovering and various head wounds and is expected to be ok.

abc 7 news. dan: in the south bay, west nile virus is on the rise in santa clara county. this summer, they have seen an increase in mosquitoes infected with the virus. there have been no human cases so far, but the county is warning people to remove sources of standing water where they like to breed. targeted spraying will happen in parts of sunnyvale and cupertino. you see the area they are going to use some mosquito abatement. spring is scheduled to start at 10:00 and last for about four hours. ama: let's get to our weather. quite mild. dan: very mild. keep it coming a little longer? sandhya: i'm going to drop those temperatures off even more. dan: great. sandhya: i want to show you live pictures from our tower cameras. one thing in common in all four shots. it is the fog.

we are seeing the marine layer rapidly deepening. we are on our way to a noticeably cooler day. santa rosa was 95 today. dropping eight degrees. you will notice oakland coming from 79 today. redwood city, 9278. high-pressure brought the heat last couple of days. inland highs mainly. this area of low pressure is going to be a bigger player. that is already influencing our weather. we are seeing that deepening marine layer. it is socked and along the coast. as the marine layer continues to stretch, it will push in across parts of the bay tomorrow morning. we're looking at drizzle through 7:00, 8:00 in the morning.
