smelling great in here. >> a little awkward. >> mama biscuit is in the house. >> everybody loves a biscuit. she is baking up something sweet and we can't wait to showcase the southern cooking. they had blueberry biscuits earlier. >> either way, we've got a lot of snacks. first we want to start with the latest on the affidavit behind the fbi search of mar-a-lago. the redacted version now made public. let's go back to maryalice parks joining us from the justice department with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the documents revealed yesterday make clear this investigation is still very much ongoing, and while a lot of the affidavit is blacked out, it does still provide a bit of a road map into how the investigation has unfolded so far.

>> the affidavit detailing what evidence was had before the search of former president trump's residence. the redaction was necessary to protect the safety and privacy of a significant number of civilian witnesses and protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation. the affidavit showing that for months before the search, authorities had been trying repeatedly to get the trump team to turn over records. eventually the affidavit says trump turned over 15 boxes of material to the national archives in january, including 184 documents marked classified, 67 marked confidential, 92 marked secret, and 25 marked top secret. >> revealing these methods and these investigations could harm the nation's ability to protect itself from foreign terrorism threats and the efforts of

foreign intelligence agencies. >> reporter: the affidavit described a disorganized jumble of newspapers, magazines, photos, miscellaneous printouts, notes, personal and presidential records, and, quote, a lot of classified records. i asked president biden friday if national security could have been compromised at mar-a-lago. >> i'll let the justice department take care of it. >> reporter: trump's team turned over even more documents in june, but still the affidavit said there's probable cause to believe that documents containing classified ndi, national defense information, remained at mar-a-lago. the precise details on that information are unclear, as the next seven paragraphs of the affidavit are entirely blacked o out. big questions remain about now investigators knew there was more classified information at the home. after they went through with the search warrant, they still found more than 20 boxes of government records there at mar-a-lago.

eva. >> maryalice parks at the department of justice. thank you. now to pope francis, appointing new cardinals during a meeting in rome. they will become part of the group that will be responsible for choosing the next upontiff. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. it's a morning of celebration. getting a little windy on this day, 20 new cardinals from all over the world are named and anointed in a celebration in st. peter's basilica behind me. each one bringing something new to an ancient institution. this is the eighth time that pope francis has named a new class of cardinals, and like all of his other appointments, these reflect his drive to make the catholic church more truly global, more diverse, and so 11 of these appointments today come from places that have never seen any representation in the long history of the college of cardinals. they're from places like

mongolia and singapore, new guinea, and the one american in the batch, archbishop robert mcelroy becomes the first cardinal in that city's long history. he's seen as a progressive and taken a stand against bishops who deny holy communion to politicians who support the right to a boring. 16 cardinals are under the age of 80, so they are eligible to vote when the time comes for the next pope. pope francis has appointed 60% of these cardinal electors, there's a lot of speculation, is he getting ready to resign. he gets around in a wheelchair quite a bit and he's talked about resigning. he gave an interview recently to a mexican journalist where he said he has no plans to retire, but if he does, he wants to stay as a bishop hearing confessions, visiting the sick, baptizing babies, living out his vocation as an ordinary priest in many

month away from the debut of her second directorial film, "don't worry darling." it's a psychological thriller about a 1950s housewife living with her husband in an experimental community. but ahead of its release the off-screen drama surrounding wilde has taken center stage. >> what are we doing? >> changing the world. >> reporter: a public disagreement brewing between director olivia wilde and actor shia laboeuf over their conflicting stories on his separation from the forthcoming movie "don't worry darling." >> i'm curious to hear where she's going with this. >> reporter: in a "variety" cover story, wilde claims he was fired previously slated to play the male lead, the role later going to harry styles. >> i'm so sorry, i forgot to tell you, you're not feeling well and the only way to cure it is if we stay home all day. >> the headlines do help bring attention to a movie. >> reporter: the filmmaker saying shia laboeuf has a process that in some ways seems to require a combative energy and i don't personally believe this is conducive to the best

performances. laboeuf denying he was ever fired saying he quit the film sharing with "variety" emails he says he sent to wilde after her claims of firing him were published. one reading, quote, you and i both know the reasons for my exit, i quit your film because your actors and i couldn't find time to rehearse. >> i think shia really decided to write this letter because he's in a tricky time in his career and for someone to say he is difficult to work with, it's really going to affect his career in a way. >> reporter: also sharing with the magazine screen shots of text messages allegedly sent in august of 2020 of an exchange discussing his exit from the project. according to "variety," the texts point to the two meeting in person in los angeles, later that night, wilde allegedly sending laboeuf a text writing in part, quote, thanks for letting me in on your thought process. i know that isn't fun. doesn't feel good to say no to someone and i respect your honesty. i'm gutted because it could have been something special.

in his email to wilde laboeuf asked her to correct the narrative as best you can adding i hope none of this negatively affects you and that your film is successful. we reached out to both laboeuf and wilde for comment and did not get a response, guys. >> thanks, mona. we do want to turn to another story getting a lot of attention. being married is more financially beneficial than being single and that is almost always been the case, don't shoot me. i'm just the messenger here. these are statistics. >> cheaper to keep her. >> apparently that's the case but inflation and rising home prices have made the gulf even wider than ever. deidre bolton has more and some tips on how to manage financially if you are single. >> reporter: first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes big savings? that's right. the money gap between young married couples and singles is widening. the median net worth of couples ages 25 to 34 years old who make that trip down the aisle is nearly nine times as much as the

median net worth of single households. >> i had planned to move and buy a home by july 2022, but the interest rate was so high and inflation just dramatically increased everything to the point where i basically have had to take a pause on the goal of home buying and moving at this time. >> reporter: in june of this year, housing prices hit their highest level since june 1989. home prices are up 44% over the past two years alone. with costs so high, and starter inventory so low, more single people are struggling to find affordable houses to buy. >> having a second income, somebody else to lean on financially, is extremely helpful. having a two-income household, having a marriage and a partner to sort of lean on another income and co-apply with, it can be instrumental in progressing. >> reporter: the financial gulf gets wider and wider every year.

talking about rain and storms most of the morning but out west focus is fire danger. here's a look at the four corners fire in western idaho. so far it's only 18% contained. it's burned about 9,000 acres and critical fire danger continues today. so we have those red flag warnings now for portions of the northern basin, also the intermountain west. that combination of low humidity, and also gusty winds, really isn't going to help conditions. but there is some good news as it relates to the drought in texas. the exceptional drought area has been cut in half, thanks to some tropical rain that fell earlier in the week. but it is still going to be very hot, but temperatures are seasonable, so maybe you're used to this type of weather. austin 96 degrees, also san antonio 95, and dallas up to 94 degrees. the humidity when you factor in the heat index numbers, that is going to make it feel more like the triple digits. so it's going to be hot again tomorrow, but as we head into next week at least temperatures will gradually fall down into the upper 80s, which

"9 to 5" gave parton her first pop chart number one 40 years ago. rsn seember 9th. i was thinking that kelly clarkson would add the vocals, obviously the pop element but, no, she's from texas. so don't rule the little country -- i'm excited for that. now to the study of miss taylor swift. the university of texas at austin has announced the newest edition of its english department curriculum, a class on the taylor swift songbook, professor elizabeth scala saying

the dow reacted to the news diving more than 1,000 points. florida governor ron desantis has suspended four broward school board members named in a report by a grand jury impaneled to look into school safety after the mass school shooting in parkland that left 17 people dead in 2018. the report accused them of, quote, neglect of duty and incompetence. there have been accusations that politics played a part of this decision. the governor has replaced the suspended board members, all registered democrats, with republicans. abbott announced its sturgis, michigan, plant is restarting production of their biggest and most popular infant formula, similac. the plant had been closed due to bacterial contamination concerns and prompted a monthslong voluntary recall and shutdown, you remember we talked so much about it. it impacted so many families and triggered an industry-wide infant formula shortage.
