sun in our inland valleys. as we get closer, a thicker deck of low clouds this morning. 59 in santa cruz with some mist and drizzle. 60 in downtown. 57 in santa clara. you can see the layers of clouds there. mid-60's. that is where we have some sunshine. it is a little cooler where it has been clear longer. today, not a whole lot of change. we will see 70's arrived midday. i inland valleys in the 60's around the bay. the winds kick up and get sunnier with highs in the mid 80's today and 70's bayside. the coast will be cool. partly cloudy downtown. we will talk about a gradual warm up on the way. liz: thank you. it has been a violent weekend on the east bay. four people were killed in two separate shootings, including the one we told you about yesterday morning where a bicyclist was killed by a car speeding off from the scene.

cornell barnard was at an anti-violence event were advocates say enough is enough. >> please join me in a brief moment of silence for the human beings whose lives were tragically stolen from us. cornell: a moment of remembrance at this event at oakland city hall honoring the victims of weekend gun violence in west oakland. >> first of all, it is heartbreaking. i think any of us that survived should honor those. cornell: they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. he died at the scene. on friday night a few blocks away, a shooting in west oakland left three people dead, including a bicyclist run over by a fleeing car. >> we know there was an initial shooting. we know that there was a second shooting. and then we know that after the second shooting, the vehicle, which the individual who had been shot was inside of, fled from the scene. and that is the vehicle that appears to have struck the

bicyclist. cornell: chief armstrong says the motive for the shootings is unknown. >> it is unfortunate. again, another senseless violence in our city. obviously, so tragic to lose three people in one incident. >> the violence did not just start with the guns. cornell: this event was organized by boss. advocates say let's talk in more action is needed to help stop the violence. >> i think it is time for us to get beyond rhetoric and focus on direct action. that is what is needed to address what is happening in our communities right now. cornell: this group is calling for more resources and outreach. >> people are starving, like literally starving. food hungry, job hungry. it is about prevention. >> the first step is reconstituting community because i do find that as common unity. cornell: police say both shootings are under investigation and appeared to be unrelated. cornell barnard, abc7news. liz: police are still looking

for the person who shot a man on board a bart train friday afternoon in the middle of the day on a daly city bound train as it made its way through east oakland. we are now hearing the radio messages from the train's operator who described the chaotic situation when he pulled into the station. >> i've got some kind of emergency on the train. people yelling and screaming saying they need help immediately. a passenger on the platform came up to my cab and sent people were running out of the train toward the trail. >> very rare occurrences. very traumatic in enclosed areas. so i understand the angst our riders would have being in an enclosed area such as a bart train. liz: bart police are reviewing security camera footage from on board the train and stations. they believe the victim was targeted. suspect escaped the station. the victim was taken to a hospital in oakland with life-threatening injuries. union city, one person was

wounded after a shooting outside of a convenience store around 3:00 in the morning of a quick stop. officers are asking anyone with information to contact them. a mountain lion died during emergency surgery at the oakland zoo. the animal had been shot by police after it was found roaming through a neighborhood in hollister. on friday morning, hollister police received a call about a mountain lion in the neighborhood. fish and wildlife attempt to tranquilize the mountain lion but were unsuccessful. officers fired at the animal after it charged towards them. the cougar suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to the oakland zoo come over at guide. the zoo said lien needing their help following close contact with humans. in the work, one person has died from a crash involving three cars. this happened early saturday morning on cherry street. officers say a total of five

people were involved in this three car crash one of the drivers died at the scene. another driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. the other driver and passengers were taken to the hospital for observation. police believe alcohol and speed played a role in the crash. another airplane emergency in watsonville, but thankfully this time everyone walked away unharmed. look at the single engine cessna. it landed in watsonville yesterday afternoon. the faa told us three people were on board. they are all ok. they are calling this a forced landing. the fire department tells us there was some kind of engine problem that led to pilot land on the sand. witnesses say he did a good job of avoiding people on the beach. >> he started coming down. i immediately realized it was engine failure or something because he landed very smoothly. liz: this is not was towed out of the surf and parked in a safe spot and the faa is now investigating.

it comes a week after two planes collided midair in watsonville, killing three people. we are taking a live look now at the launch pad at the kennedy space center where the artemis one is expected to launch tomorrow morning. there is building excitement with the countdown underway for this giant step in america's return to the moon. gio benitez is covering the launch from cape canaveral. gio: they were the images that captured a nation half a century ago. the apollo launches to the moon. america is set to make history again, sending a spacecraft built for humans even farther, hoping someday soon we can stay there. >> what is it like for you personally to be here witnessing this moment in this role as the head of nasa? >> it is humbling. gio: bill nelson is the nasa administrator who spent six days in space in 1986. >> all of this is in preparation to build and develop the

technology to go to mars. gio: here is how it works. on monday morning sometime between 8:33 a.m. and 10:33 a.m. eastern, nasa's new space launch system, the most powerful rock in the world, will fly for the first time if all goes as planned, carrying the orion capsule with it. orion will take three days to get to the moon, fly around it, then come back home, 42 days in total. the return home is what nasa will be looking at very closely to eventually bring humans back safely. >> you can the heatshield in a lab. you have to put it and it is coming in hot. it is coming in fast. it is coming in 5000 degrees, mach 32 times the speed of sound. gio: if all goes well with tomorrow's launch, humans will be sitting in those seats. liz: that was gio benitez reporting. he was saying humans will be sitting in them in 2024. by the way, krispy kreme is getting in on the excitement.

liz: welcome back. here is a live look outside. having a good start to your sunday. on the peninsula, firefighters used ropes and police to rescue a man who fell off a cliff when the ground beneath his feet crumbled. it happened friday morning at moss beach in 10 mattea county. the victim fell 100 feet onto the beach below. a woman walking nearby heard him calling for help or get it is a reminder of how dangerous california's cliff sides can be to people and pets. a city is honoring japanese americans were imprisoned in an internment camp. this year marks the 80th anniversary. ryan curry shows us how the city is paying tribute and what message is being sent for the future. >> it is really important that we unite. ryan: five local artists with ancestors in japanese internment

camps came together to remember the past and shed light toward the future. >> each piece is made out of five to 11 pieces of glass. ryan: she is one of those artists who designed a piece for the exhibit. she built a kimono made of glass. >> it is fused at 1340 degrees. ryan: all with pictures of former members of japanese internment camps. >> families and people while they were incarcerated during world war ii. ryan: her partner says her ancestors were forced out of their plant nursery so she built a cherry blossom sculpture to honor them. >> they were a thriving business and they ended up basically giving away, donating, trying to sell whatever they had before they were incarcerated. ryan: designs that took several years to make now on display but they are not the only ones remembering the 80th anniversary of the local internment camp. ♪ ryan: the memorial committee and

build an outdoor memorial to honor the 8000 people detained. >> we created this memorial to honor them. and we want to make sure that they understand that this was for them. ryan: it has been 80 years since the camp, and now artists want to use history to remind people to always fight against prejudice. >> we fight together against the prejudice and racial inhumane treatment that many are still encountering today. ryan: in san bruno, ryan curry, abc7news. liz: final repairs are done after crews worked on the metro subway. the schedules are back in place starting today. the subway was closed as part of a fix it campaign. crews were fixing overhead wires, tracks, signals, and the automated train control system. all of this was being done in the name of safety.

subway was closed lightly since the work started with buses running in place of trains on the street level. san francisco mayor london breed has declared today zuckerberg san francisco general hospital day, so the breading it's 150 years of public service. the mayor emphasized the importance of san francisco hospitals work and providing access to quality health care and service to san franciscans since 1872. over the coming months, the san francisco general hospital foundation will showcase the hospital's history through billboards, social media, and tv ads that will highlight the stories of innovation and inclusion through plates, pandemics, and natural disasters. a major freeway between los angeles and phoenix is expected to fully reopen next week after sustaining major damage in a flash flood. this video, you see a large part of my 10 heading least washed out by this. crews are working through the weekend to repair the highway. monsoon storms caused similar

will get higher in the week. 62 in san jose. 61 in santa clara. there is the golden gate bridge. 57 in santa rosa. 64 where the sun is shining. the southwesterly wind making his presence felt through the delta. with the clear sky overnight, livermore at 61. a little warmer with a black and of low clouds. mother nature allowing for air conditioning today. there is a look at the sunny south bay. a nice-looking start to the day here. we have some drizzle at the coast. just a little bit out there. temperatures may be a couple degrees below average but close enough. 90's returning by the middle of the week and looking to stick around throughout the holiday weekend. at this point anyway. there is a look at the clouds. they are pulling back to get this economy day at half moon bay and we have to clouds sticking around stinson as well as we get into monday. they will come back and we will look for gray skies across the

bay. breezy wins at 20 to 25 miles per hour. very little change, almost a repeat performance here for monday. high pressure will build in south and east of us. that will erode the conduct and little earlier and allow the sea breeze to back off in our in the locations so we warm up by tuesday. that will be the first warmer day with lower 90's, and you might see a little warming closer to the bay. look at the north bay into the upper 80's. by wednesday, back to summer warmth with mid 90's. as we go closer to oakland and fremont, we could see 80 by the time we get to thursday. not a whole lot of change beyond this. that means we will feel a little bit warmer. hopefully seeing the sun a little sooner and parts of the east bay as we get to the middle and end of the week. the north bay will feel like wine country late in the week. it has been cooler than average there. 80 in vallejo.

83 incentive pressure. 72 in oakland. the seven day forecast sunny but temperatures will stay rather mild today. tomorrow, inland will warm up a bit through tuesday and wednesday and the bay will follow modestly. the coast still stays cool. temperatures in the city very comfortable but it should be brighter by the end of the week. liz: good to know. we will brace ourselves. thank you. speaking of the heat, burning man starts today in the nevada desert. the weeklong festival is back after the pandemic brought the annual pilgrimage to a halt. tens of thousands of people are expected to come together this year in nevada's black rock desert to create black rock city, a temporary metropolitan dedicateddust storms are part oe experience. burning man began in 1986 on san francisco's baker beach with the burning of a large wooded effigy called the man.

back with a bang, it is estimated close to 40,000 visitors showed up on saturday to san francisco's chinatown's autumn moon festival. many consider the festival to be the second most important on the chinese lunar calendar. the busy streets mean many came out to celebrate and there but it was also important for local businesses. unser hudson was there. >> the festival in san francisco's chinatown came to a close with a fire dragon dance. >> so this is about casting away the bad giu giu that we have been experiencing and renew energy. >> it dates back 3000 years to give thanks to the moon for a bountiful harvest. many consider it to be the second most import a festival of the chinese lunar calendar. it is a big draw for chinatown. > the streets are not been this busy for a while so it is nice to see. > it feels good. i grew up here. it is like my roots. important to connect where you came from and not forget. >> 2020 twos miss chinatown usa

elected school board commissioner gabriela lopez honored her parents by taking the oath in spanish. >> being able to invite them to something that we are normally not a part of, emotional for a lot of people. leanne: if warmer classroom teacher, at 28, lopez was the youngest elected official in san francisco and eventually became the president of the school board. her platform focused on giving teachers a living wage, allowing people to big -- allowing parents to become involved in their children's education by decreasing language barriers, and supporting the social and emotional health of students among other things. >> and then covid hit and many of your critics said that instead of focusing on kids returning to the classroom, you and the board focused on other nonessential things such as renaming schools, painting over murals. if you had to do it again, what

would you do differently this time? >> i believe that some people did not see me as someone who was listening and i really want to change that understanding of who i am. i am first and educator. i am a person who does listen. that is how i learn and make better decisions. leanne: another issue that did not work in her favorite was her stop support for her former colleague allison collins, who made some hurtful remarks towards the chinese community on twitter. now that you are running, that is going to come up again. so what are you going to say to that community? >> comments that were made were harmful. and learn from it. by don't want to be someone who turns away from that because as humans, we grow from those moments. leanne: she had missed the reeked -- she admits the recall was hurtful. she took time to work on her phd and announced she was running again.

a result of classified materials being kept unsecured at mar-a-lago. >> they are going to try to determine who had access to this material. it was found in different rooms. nonclassified materials including things like newspaper clippings and frankly just junk. if this were to get into the wrong hands, what would be our specific threat to national security? >> the newly unsealed affidavit that prosecutors used to justify their search of the home detail how mar-a-lago did not have any secure authorized location for the storage of classified information and that some of the documents the government had retrieved in the months before the search had information from clandestine human sources, meaning our nation's spies. >> disclosing these methods place all americans at risk because if the government cannot use those information collection and investigative methods to gather intelligence, they cannot

stop threats. >> i asked president biden friday about trump's claims he used his presidential powers to declassify the material. >> i just want to know i declassified everything in the world, i am president. come on. liz: first lady jill biden remains in isolation in delaware this weekend after testing positive again for covid-19. misses biden tested positive with a redone case on wednesday, nearly 10 days after her initial positive test. she was first treated with the antiviral drug paxlovid, which can cause rebound cases. a white house official says she is not experiencing any symptoms and can return to the white house as soon as tomorrow. for the first time, a baby is being treated at a hospital for monkeypox. health officials in washington state say the child tested positive after being exposed to the virus by an infected family member. the baby developed a rash. seattle children's hospital confirmed to abc news the infant is now being treated with an

authorized antiviral. across the country, at least 18 children in 10 states have contracted the virus. anyone can get monkeypox, but health officials say the vast majority of cases in the u.s. have been detected in men who have sex with men. a decline in cases in new york, chicago, and san francisco has federal health officials hopeful. >> seeing vaccines get out, behaviors change, harm we dr. messages being heard -- harm reduction messages being heard, and all of that working in tandem. liz: black and hispanic men are disproportionately represented in the cases, and there is a valid increase for vaccine equity. earlier this week, burglars smashed the front window of a pet shop and sawed through a secured gate to get inside.

liz: new this morning in the south bay, we are learning a teenager has died following a stabbing in san jose. it happened just after 1:30 yesterday morning. when police arrived, they found a 16-year-old boy and an adult man both with at least one stab wound. they were taken to a hospital. the 16 ball boy did not survive. this marks the city's 26 homicide of the year. police are investigating and have not released the identity of the victim. in san francisco, the business owner of a chinatown favorite fell victim to a zelle scam we have been reporting for months. a potentially fake name and a big-time ripoff. we dive in with a report from michael finney. >> my mother has been banking

with bank of america for decades. she had a small business in chinatown called the walk shop. michael: here it is, a san francisco treasure. if you have not shop here, you probably heard about it. her mother has ran the place for over 50 years. we are talking to lisa because her mother's zelle account seems to have been attacked and lisa has been helping with the fallout. >> so she called bank of america and filed the fraudulent claim. it was 4 transactions on the same day that totaled $3500. by a whalen marlin. michael: probably a fake name. the bank put a hold on the checking account and investigated. a few months earlier, her phone had been stolen. there may or may not be a tie. lisa and her mom were hopeful, then they heard back. >> they were not going to refund her money.

they could not prove that it was not my mother who facilitated the zelle transactions. michael: lisa contacted me, and that is where the three of us are talking. and i had to ask this question. did you make those transactions? >> no. absolutely not. the name of that person is on my statement. michael: that person's name is not tane. i reached out to bank of america and make a case at two -- case that they should be able to work this out. they came through, telling me that based on additional information provided by the client's daughter and further research on our part, we suspected the client's device may have been compromised. bank of america returned the entire starwood amount. when i heard the good news, i headed over to the shop. look who is your today.

this month marks 10 years since his passing. a challenging anniversary for his father. >> hearing from his friends and colleagues who served with him at a time about the things he was doing, how much the iraqis and afghans respected him, how much he trusted them and love them, we miss that guy. dustin: universal and perpetual peace, evaluate it by while serving in the marines before he was killed by a rogue afghan police officer. his father said he changed many lives for the better. >> those little kids that are in the pictures with him, one of these days those kids will become the village elders and will remember. you know what, those americans were good guys and things were pretty good when they were here. dustin: he remembers his son through his pictures in his judge's chambers and his hometown will never forget him thanks in part to a legislation. a portion of interstate 280 will be named in his honor.
