told my dad to get away from the window and people were running out of safeway, and i mean, the police were here, though, in a matter of like five seconds. >> still more details to come, but two officers were injured. police are still trying to determine a motive. also breaking overnight, one man is under arrest after a deadly and apparently random shooting spree in detroit. three people were killed and another person wounded in less than three hours, police say there doesn't appear to be any connection between the victims. we turn now to washington and new fallout from the fbi search at former president trump's mar-a-lago estate. intelligence officials are taking a closer look at the documents found to assess any national security risks. meanwhile, the judge is offering clues about a possible so-called "special master" in the case. abc's justin finch joins us now with more. >> reporter: good morning. for many republicans, that heavily redacted affidavit is just not enough, they're asking for even more details.

this morning, increasing concerns over potential damage to national security following the fbi's search of former donald trump estate. the director of national intelligence has sent a letter to top congressional lawmakers confirming an assessment is under way. the heavily redacted affidavit used in the search in mar-a-lago released friday revealing some critical details. the fbi launched the search in part on evidence from a significant number of civilian witnesses, the justice department warned that as the investigation continues key witnesses could face intimidation or retaliation. there's an ongoing grand jury investigation and prosecutors have already identified potential targets and are looking for more. >> the most important part that's redacted relates to the obstruction and that to me what this is what's going come down to. >> reporter: documents involving

the most classified of material, including some of human intelligence, spies and electronic eavesdropping. >> disclosing these methods place all americans at risk. >> reporter: from across the republican party, demands for more transparency. >> again, i'm not putting all the documents on the internet, but give us some sense of the subject matter. >> reporter: some have their minds made up. >> the hypocrisy of folks in my party that spent years chanting "lock her up" of hillary clinton because of deleted e-mails are now out there defending a man who very clearly didn't take the national security of the united states to heart. >> reporter: former president trump fighting back. the hearing is set for later this week on his request for a florida federal court to name a special master, a third party to review the fbi-seized evidence from mar-a-lago. it's set for september 1st.

the judge already indicating her preliminary intent to approve that special master request. andrew, rhiannon. >> justin, thank you. a developing story this morning from washington. a pro football player, washington commanders running back brian robinson has been shot during an attempted robbery or a carjacking. the 23-year-old is now recovering. the other big headline in the nfl, the rape allegation against the buffalo bills punter cut by the team this weekend, questions being raised when the team knew about the allegation and if it acted soon after. this morning, matt araiza is out of the nfl, releasing the rookie punter after he was accused along with two college teammates of gang raping an underage teen. >> at this time, we just think it's the best move for everyone to move on from matt. >> reporter: the alleged attack came at a halloween party last

fall when araiza was a star at san diego state. the two other players have been removed from the school roster. a civil suit lawsuit filed by a 17-year-old claims that she was observably intoxicated while with araiza. the alleged suspect spoke to san diego station kpps. >> they threw me down on to the bed, face down, and they took turns assaulting me. >> reporter: her father spoke to abc news. >> the first thing i did was, oh, my lord, how do i make sure that my daughter's physically cared for and safe. you bet anger comes in. >> reporter: araiza's attorney claims this is 100% money grab. araiza saying in statement the facts of the incident are not what they are portrayed in the lawsuit or in the press. i look forward to quickly setting the record straight. many are now questioning what the nfl and the buffalo bills

knew and when. the bills said they had no knowledge of the accusations when they drafted araiza in april. but the alleged victim's lawyer was in contact with the bills in late july, weeks before the lawsuit was filed last thursday. the bills then released araiza on saturday, two days later amid growing public backlash. the nfl did not respond to our request for comment. and let's turn now to florida and the new mission to the moon scheduled to lift off this morning. >> nasa's most powerful rocket is going on a test flight, the first big step for the artemis program, which will one day return americans to the lunar surface but lightning is raising concerns. abc's morgan norwood is at kennedy space center this morning. morgan. >> reporter: good morning, guys. a lot of excitement here on the ground and we got a little bit of space drama. a weather delay, but things are back on, we're also learning about a potential hydrogen leak that crews are working on as we

speak, but the excitement is certainly mounting here in florida. it's nasa's most powerful rocket yet and this morning, the space launch system, or sls, is on the pad and ready for liftoff as nasa prepares for artemis 1 a high-stakes flight in a series of missions that it will carry humans to moon. >> this really is a test flight. the risk is not low on this mission. >> reporter: the last man launched to the moon was apollo 17, a 12-day mission breaking multiple records. but come in 2024, and if all goes on this test flight we're going to the moon to stay. nasa's goal is to establish a permanent station orbiting the moon called gateway, from there astronauts could land on the moon, it would also be a base for manned space

travel to mars and beyond. >> from our current knowledge of the international space station we have learned over time how to operate and live and work the gateway is an outpost. >> reporter: packing 8.8 million pounds of thrust, the sls will send the orion space capsule racing toward the moon, set to orbit up to 23 days with systems abroad gathering data and testing radiation levels. crews are already training for this. artemis 2 will send the first woman and first person of color to the moon. for now, all eyes on artemis 1 for a successful flight. so, again, crews are working on that hydrogen leak just to see if it's going to be a major issue and inhibit the flight process. there's a two-hour launch window to hit lunar orbit today. if that doesn't happen, don't worry, guys, things will take off as planned. they'll try again on friday. >> all right, morgan norwood, thank you so much. fingers crossed all is a-go.

back now with two boston police officers getting a special thanks. they were reunited with a father and son they rescued. the men were lobster fishing when the boat started sinking. they held on for 20 minutes until the officers arrived. two air france pilots have been suspended for a brawl. the pilot and the co-pilot reportedly had a dispute after takeoff and grabbed each other by their collars after one apparently hit the other. the cabin crew had to break it up. britney spears is getting personal, opening up about everything from how her mother treated her to what oprah recently offered her.
