go to non-gaming tribes. the choice is clear. yes, on 27. moving forward finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. no parent wants to send their kids to school and in a day and and then be called saying your kids been shot. it's the worst thing that you can hear. tonight one boy is injured and another is in custody after a shooting this afternoon in east oakland frantic parents clamored to make sure their children are safe as the police chief addresses the public about violence in his city this past weekend. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley and i'm dion limb. here's what we know about the shooting at the school. it was reported at about 1 o'clock this afternoon at victim is a 13 year old student at madison park academy, which is a sixth through 12th grade school in east oakland take a look sky seven flew over madison park academy shortly after the

incident happened. you can see there on the ground dozens of parents outside the school waiting to pick up their kids safely police. chief. lauren armstrong says police took a suspect into custody and recovered a gun. now that shooting is one of several violent incidents that led to a passionate plea from the chief this afternoon a shooting at fruitvale bart a triple homicide on the streets always dangerous side shows over the weekend. investigators are dealing with six deaths in multiple incidents since friday this afternoon at a joint news conference with community clergy members, the chief expressed his frustration. this is a people issue. there are people in our community who are picking up guns and shooting people there is no excuse. there is no finger to point at is not the police department. it is people in our community who have become. unable to solve conflict without using firearms and that's sad because it's leaving so much

trauma, and it's community. the chief also singled out friday night's triple homicide at 28th and mlk a case in which someone on a bicycle who had no connection to the shooting was hit by a car and killed during the gunfire that took two other lives. meantime bart police are looking for suspects in two violent incidents. the most recent one happened yesterday afternoon a man stabbed to death during an argument in the bark plaza at the 24th street station in san francisco our cameras that we have in our plazas did capture that but we are also looking for businesses residences other places in the area that have cameras that are on the exterior buildings that hopefully can help identify or show the direction of flight of the individual after it occurred. mark police are also hoping surveillance video will help them identify the suspect in friday's shooting aboard a train at the fruitvale station in oakland. the victim was shot in the arm and leg and thankfully they

survived with serious injuries investigators are describing both incidents as targeted. all right to the south bay now where santa clara county leaders are poised to take action tomorrow on social and systemic measures to help prevent gun violence abc 7 news reporter dustin dorsey shows you the county report that details the financial and emotional burden that gun violence is causing in the community. santa clara county leaders say there is an epidemic bringing irreparable harm to residents in the county as a whole. it's not covid or monkey pox. it's gun violence. we've had too much costs not just economic but also emotional and social cost in this county of gun violence and enough is enough. the emotional toll is something the two children as well as other family and friends of san jose resident matthew shivira. no all too. well shivira was shot and killed leaving a fundraiser in march 2021 his case remains unsolved few answers plenty of pain for one of his closest friends

neighborhood level like any epidemic these leaders believe gun violence is treatable and the board of supervisors will take action on these recommendations. to prevent further loss something. because lives are being lost families are being destroyed. i believe that if in santa clara county we can do that. we will fundamentally see a change in the in the health and well-being of people in our community in santa clara county dustin dorsey abc 7 news. san jose police say an 18 year old man was arrested for the deadly stabbing of a 16 year old boy this weekend. that incident happened at about 1:30 saturday morning near quimby road and careston way in east san jose. another man was also stabbed but survived officers arrested the suspect michael o'bills at his san jose home later that day investigators have yet to announce a possible motive. the teen victim has been identified as sunny soy in san francisco, the firefighters union is speaking out after two of their paramedics were

attacked by a man with a wooden stake who then stole the ambulance and tried to run them down. it happened just before seven o'clock this morning at harrison and 13th streets under the 101 freeway overpass abc 7 news reporter. ryan curry has more on what happened. a cracked windshield and damage inside the truck. these are photos released by the san francisco fire union. they say a man with a steak from a tree came at the minnesota paramedic team. just sitting in their ambulance waiting for a call sfpd says that man then stole the ambulance drove laps around the best by parking lot and tried to hit the paramedics. they were not hurt and the reasoning is unclear for what it sounds like. it was just random. i haven't i haven't actually spoke to the crew directly to see what happened. but it say it was just bumper broke now to blue tim finch one of the directors with the fire union says attacks on his members are happening enough to the point. they expect it. somebody gets assaulted. it's kind of assaulted behavior happens whether it's on a call or just posting waiting for

calls to happen and cruise after a while when it happens often out. they go. oh, it's part of the job except that it's not finished says there is an issue in san francisco where those suffering from addiction or mental health issues are causing problems with their members or leading to other types of crime someone broke in and rob. union headquarters recently somebody broke in through the roof caused about about 15 $20,000 in damage. these recent incidents are putting the fires union in a bind. they say they want all of their union members to be able to help every resident and every person in the city. we reached out to mayor london breed's office and they sent us the following statement quote. this is upsetting when it happens to our residents visitors and city staff our firefighters paramics and all first responders work hard every single day often putting their lives on the line to ensure the safety of san franciscans. we take incidents like this seriously and want to thank sfpd for their involvement in these investigations director finch says the city really needs to focus on the addiction and mental health issues in the city

to explain why this is not sitting well, however with some people well, dan, is it fair to have a holiday for one religious group and not another that's the argument some are making but those who push for these. two days off say students who observe the two holidays had have had to retake exams or miss out on instruction on those days and they risk falling behind. if all goes as planned beginning in the fall of 2023 students in san francisco public schools will have two additional days off to celebrate eid to cultural holidays of muslim origin hundreds of our students were falling behind academically, you know missing class missing assignments when they have to take off time for this for this holiday because they want to go and spend time with their families the san francisco unified school board agreed only one member voted against adding these two holidays and shoe who argued that there isn't a
