liquid at a san mateo senior living facility this weekend. j.r. stone is following this story closely and he is in the newsroom with more on the victim and investigation. j.r.: this is a heart breaking story. the woman who drank this liquid was a mother and grandmother. many demanding that officials get to the bottom of what happened here. trudy maxwell's memory will live on in pictures like this. the 93-year-old mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother died when she was served dishwashing liquid on sunday at this atria senior living facility in san mateo. >> it is inconceivable that a dishwashing liquid ends up in a container that is given to a patient. it was a complete failure somewhere. j.r.: trudy's daughter tweeted abc news to say that this was not a commercial dishwasher, but

a commercial grade cleaner. she believes her mother was given this red detergent called ultra klene. the product is described as a high alkaline formula designed to remove tough grease and oils. people familiar with the case believe the chemical was confused with cranberry juice. atria senior living said that three of their residents were sent to the hospital recently after being served dishwashing liquid as drinking juice. elder abuse lawyers were not involved in this case, kathryn stebner spoke about what investigators are looking at and how something like this could have happened. >> what weather safety protocols? -- what were the safety protocols? >> either shortstaffed and/or

passed governor newsom's plan to get people with severe mental illness into treatment. this proposal is designed to help people who are suffering on the streets of the bay area, as hundreds are here. his plan would require all counties to set up a mental health branch and civil board and provide treatment to those suffering from psychosis. it will also force some people into care. a report by two uc riverside professors accused the governor of stripping people from their own life choices. bill goes back to the senate for another vote. ama: mikhail gorbachev has died after a lengthy illness. he took power in 1985 and enacted economic and political reform that led to the end of the cold war. however, his grip on power quickly faded, leading to his resignation on christmas day 1991.

the soviet union collapsed a day later. gorbachev visited the bay area many times over the years. >> frankly, it is a loss for the world. he was an unusual human being, but he put together a program that allowed soviet union to do what it did and create an opportunity for world peace to be the beneficiary. it was incredible. ama: mikhail gorbachev is survived by his daughter. he was 91 years old. dan: a person in texas with monkeypox has died, but it is not clear if that person -- if that was the reason they died. the cdc does say that monkeypox is rarely fatal. the united states is working to make more monkeypox vaccine available in the meantime. a new manufacturing plant in michigan will double the

capacity to make the vaccine. today, the white house monkeypox response team has announced a release of vaccines at large lgbtq evidence -- evidence. -- events. >> we will release them at events including pride fest on september 11. this will allow up to 1400 additional vaccinations. dan: they are also launching a program to have health departments across the country per jurisdiction to be distributed at smaller events and clinics, specifically reaching high-risk individuals facing barriers to access. ama: nasa is giving the artemis launch another shot on saturday. they have the launch by monday, or it will have to be delayed

until later this month. the mission is meant to serve as a test flight ahead of nasa's return to the moon in 2024. dan: and we have been reporting extensively on the red tide algae bloom that has killed marine life across the bay area. there is another type of algae people need to be on the alert for as well. blue-green algae is toxic and can be harmful to humans and pets. majority of the districts listed on the website have some sort of advisory up. the park district has this advice. >> when you are swimming, try to keep the water out of your mouth and when you come out, rinse off and towel dry. dan: experts say the warmer weather expected in the coming days will likely cause the algae blooms to spread. ama: not just warm but hot. dan: it is brutal.

we have talked about this, how sticky and sweltering it is. sandhya: we have a summer scorcher coming our way and i want to show you that holiday heatwave. here's a quick look at what you can expect. dangerous heat and with that extreme heat comes afire dangers. mid- to upper 100's inland. you will notice 90's along the bay and 60's and 70's along the coastline. high-pressure over the desert and it is shifting westward. that is what will bring us the heat as you take a look at the temperature spread for saturday. you go from the 60's coast side to the triple digits on saturday. the numbers soared to a different level. you're 15 or 25 degrees above average. as we head into monday, this computer model is pushing some of the temperatures up into the 110 category, but it is only one
