prevent sweeping blackouts. the flex alerts to conserve energy during the peak times have become increasingly common in the recent years as drought conditions persist and the climate continues to warm. as people stay cool, all of it has placed an increasing strain on the state electric grid and created problems for lawmakers in sacramento. at a legislative session wednesday night, they discussed ways to modernize infrastructure. >> number one, we do not have blackouts in the future. we prepare the grid to withstand what we know is coming. lena: no official on the grid per se was taken last night, places like berkeley and others on the bay area have taken large steps. every business in the city will rely on renewable energies for most of their electrical needs.
