the north bay hit hardest with half a mile visibility. numbers in the mid-50's through the low 60's. it is foggy and chilly this morning. everything changes later today. sunshine comes right on back. today is a brief dip in temperatures compared to yesterday. we are still tracking excessive heat warnings for the holiday weekend. kumasi: with the ongoing heat we are seeing, a third consecutive flex alert is going into effect today. here's what you can do to conserve. set your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher if your health allows. don't use major appliances during those hours and turn off any unnecessary lights. liz: what impact does the alert have and how much can you prevent blackouts? experts say the average home in

football that long so this is probably about it. >> things got so uncomfortable in that triple digit heat, some people opted to watch the game in their car that is air-conditioned instead. i am sure a lot of folks over there in the pleasant hill football game would definitely like to cool off a bit here in pacifica as it is about 40 degrees less than it was at the football game last night. kumasi: health officials are urging all of us to be conscious during this heat wave. simple things like gardening, fishing or exercising can cause health problems when the temperatures are as high as they are. if you are risking getting heat exhaustion, stroke or even death by doing those things, you need to be cautious. the federal government estimates up to 1300 people die from heat related illnesses every year. >> understanding and recognizing symptoms early on and knowing when it is time to change her

p.m. both people were shot at least once. one victim died on the scene and the condition of the other is not clear this morning. police did not offer any motive or potential suspect investigation. liz: someone tried to assassinate the vice president of argentina and it was all caught on camera. that ia man emerged from p gh at her gun jammed.heri t the pride were five bullets in the gun. the vice president is involved in a corruption trial and was returning from court. it is unclear if that was a motive for the attempt. a 35 euros brazilian man is currently in custody. kumasi: we are learning just how much of a negative impact the pandemic has had on student learning in our schools. liz: the earthquake that struck at the exact time lawmakers were talking about the dangers of earthquake. drew: here's a live look.

the coast does remain pretty comfy but inland, we are tracking the dangerous heat. right now, fog in the north bay. the fog is with us this morning. highs today, 60's and 70's close to the ocean. mid and upper 90's and our hottest spots. some patchy fog later today. mid 50's to mid-60's as the heat wave begins to take hold. let's take you to saturday is the heatwave begins. we find 90's if not triple digits in our hottest areas. by sunday and especially into monday, monday is the hottest day of the heatwave. from san jose to concord to santa rosa, we are well above 100 degrees. 95 in mountain view. but onshore flow is still with us keeping the coast relatively comfortable 70's for half moon bay and san francisco. a lot of people likely flocking to the coast for heat relief. 70 forecast, a brief dip in

delivering a final decision in the case against elizabeth holmes. he denied her request to have the case thrown out. the ruling comes nearly 10 months after a jury found her guilty on four counts of wire fraud. ultimately, he gave up a limited decision and says he will take another look at the evidence on both eyes and issue his final order. >> the court will have to work with that. this jury got it right, they were very diligent and out for many days and there was a tremendous amount of evidence presented by both sides. liz: she faces up to 20 years in prison and a 250,000 dollars fine plus restitution for lying to investors about her company's technology. kumasi: americans could be getting updated covid vaccine boosters right after labor day. the cdc has signed off on these redesigned shots that protect against the new omicron variants. pfizer says the first doses of its booster have already been shipped across the country. more than 100,000 doses were sent as soon as the fda

tonight at 7:00 p.m. eastern. if she wins, she will still have to win three more matches to earn the coveted u.s. open title. she has already won the tournament six times. liz: florida is recalling 200,000 suvs at risk starting a fire. the recall affects 2015 to 2017 ford expositions and lincoln navigators. there have been reports of 25 fires caused by malfunctioning heating and cooling motors. three of those have caused extensive damage to large structures and one person had injuries to their hand. dealerships will repair the issue at no cost to customers. this is the socket recall involving fire hazards in the last few months. another recall involving child safety. the consumer product safety commission is recalling 14,000 baby all-terrain jogging strollers because they could amputate a child's finger.

the issue is openings near the rear brakes that are big enough for small fingers to get into. at least one child has suffered a finger amputation injury. if you have one of the strollers, you should contact the company to replace the rear brakes for free. thousands of theaters across the country are selling just three dollars tomorrow. it is part of national cinema day. major chains like amc and regal are taking part in this day. amc says it will offer a five dollar drink and popcorn combo. you can find a list of participating locations on the national cinema day website. taking a live look outside right now, the dow up 100 points this morning. liz: nasa's james webb space telescope has captured its first image of a distant world. nasa shared this picture of a planet outside of our sellers the stem. it is called the hip 65426 v.
