september 5 and it is labor day. kumasi: it is a hot one. i don't know about these barbecuing plants. lisa: someone was cutting the grass in my neighborhood last night and i was saying you should not do that. be careful because it is so hot. we are going to add to the heat today in some neighborhoods up to five degrees. we are getting to 110, 112 today, maybe even 115. we do have a sea breeze, that will allow for temperatures to be comfortable at our coast. we are mild, 65 on oakland. 70 in san jose. that brings us up three to 11 degrees. our excessive heat warning will last through thursday, as well as our heat advisory. visibility is good now but air quality is reduced tomorrow into wednesday.

the sun is coming up at 6:43 and we are surpassing yesterday's highs. this heat will stick around. >> because of triple digit temperatures, it is putting pressure on our energy grid and that prompted a flex alert today. cal iso is urging everyone to reduce power use. we are being asked to insert literacy from 4:00 to 10:00, one hour later than the previous flex alerts. today and tomorrow they are projected to be the most challenging days for california's power supply. several generators are out of service. we are also told to set thermostats to 70 degrees or higher. your to avoid using those appliances and turn off unnecessary lights. kumasi: many people are track be defeated, including hitting the pool. in one community, it was too hard to do even that.

lena is joining us live with more. reporter: brentwood announcing they will be closing the city pool all day today and through tomorrow because of the excessive heat. this as the city of brentwood is expected to reach a new record high of 115 degrees. ricky henderson and his family have a giant family reunion planned yesterday and they came to this park so they can use the pool. many drove in from oakland for the event only to be turned away. all the andersons could do was look at the pool all staying in the shade. >> we pick this place because of the pool. to get your to our surprise, it was closed. we drove from oakland. reporter: in vacaville, it is an

opposite story. the city announced they will be extending the hours of the walter graham aquatic center today and yesterday from 12:00 to 7:00. because this pool remits closed, the city is encouraging folks to go to the brentwood community center which is serving as a cooling center from 11:00 to 6:00 for anyone hoping to see relief from that heat. live in brentwood, and howland -- lena howland. >> some parks will remain closed today because of the heat. the spatial system and parks will be closed today. facilities and recreation areas will remain open. is phil parks plans to be open tomorrow if temperatures cool off enough. these heat -- of the heat of slowdown park service.

ocean beach and most of the parking is already sold out. you have got to get early. by sunday afternoon, the number of beachgoers had doubled. crews from the surf rescue unit were watching the waves. >> our furious we will have people from neighboring communities coming to cool off everyone them to know before they go. reporter: to know about dangerous rip tides and cold ocean water. first responders rescued a man and his dog who had fallen down a cliff at fort funston. >> be aware of your surroundings, stay on the coastal trails. reporter: at half moon bay, venice beach was getting crowded. park rangers started turning visitors and cars away because lots were full. the national park service treated that the parking lot at stinson beach was full and would likely remain that way until sunset. on the north coast, there was lots of elbowroom and a cool breeze and salmon creek beach.

julian: we are back with the developing news on a contra costa county with these men who escaped from jail. both men escaped from a minimum security jail yesterday. one was serving time for burglary and weapons charges and jorge garcia was an in custody for stealing a car. deputies noticed a member gone yesterday morning. they warned local residents to lock doors and vehicles. both men were wearing all white or yellow gel efforts. -- yellow state jail outfits.

we are going to check in with lisa with what it will look like today. lisa: power fire danger is going up today and tomorrow. just checked temperatures on mount tam and about diablo. everyone in the mid 80's with ben loman, relative humidity at 7%. yesterday it was 96 on top of the mountain. many of those east bay regional parks are closed because of the heat. temperatures will be well into the 90's. right now, relative humidity in the 20% range. you go up anywhere from 800 to 1000 feet and it is super dry warm. as we look outside, a preview from our sutro tower camera, already in the mid 60's. half moon bay, 1152. in santa cruz, it is 60. mid 60's by the delta, but 60's in our inland valleys. that brings our warmth this morning above average.

this is not the first time a worker at an airport has been accused of doing something like this. reporter: corey patterson appeared in court, a day after stealing a plane and causing panic for hours in tupelo, mississippi. police say the 29-year-old who previously earned a student pilot license was starting -- was threatening to crash the plane into a walmart. >> 600 pounds of gas which is the equivalent of a napalm bomb. it would have done terrible damage if he follows through. reporter: patterson worked at the tupelo airport, fueling up plans, making it easy to gain access to the cockpit. his flight map looking more like and it just gets drawing until five hours later when the plane began running out of gas. it was around that time he posted this message on facebook.
