are double digits warmer. here's a place you could go but even santa cruz is i just set a record high today of about 94. here's what we are forecasting just about everywhere but san francisco two-degree shy of a record high those numbers are coming in right now and i'll update you as we go through this hour. so what is happening outside through thursday? we still have temperatures that could be up to 98 even a 102's possible tomorrow in redwood city. so the san francisco bay shoreline the marine coastal range in that heat advisory the most dangerous heat where we have the high the very high risk of heat illness is everywhere you see and pink to darker red there. that's where we could be 115 to 116 through at least thursday, solano county lake and mendocino county's dan until friday. i think you're gonna love the weekend forecast. i'll show you that coming up after this. i have no doubt mike. thanks very much. well as the temperatures rise power is becoming more of an issue of this afternoon prompting another call to try to conserve as much electricity as we possibly can abc 7 news.

anchor karina. nova is in the newsroom with more on tonight's flex alert and why tomorrow karina could be even worse. yeah. those rolling outages are a possibility today and tomorrow as we deal with this extreme heat event across the state. i spoke to pg&e about how the decision is made to cut power what areas are impacted and for how long you'll be without power of those rolling outages are needed. this is the real-time energy demand and you can see this this is the website that they use and this is the system demand in megawatts compared to the forecasted demand and they update this every five minutes on that graph so you can actually take a look at it yourself and right now it seems like we're in good shape, but this is what they look at when they look to see if those rolling outages may happen if we go above that megawatt capacity and that is why we are under an energy emergency alert one today from five to ten. that means you are strongly urged to use less energy the,

california. operators watching the supply and demand for the grid in real time cal iso says the impact on the power grid will determine the decision on whether power needs to be shut off for residents. if we get to that point where all of these other tools that we have described are the energy the demand response the emergency response are operating reserves if those are exhausted at that point, we would be conveying to the utilities that it would be time to drop load and the utilities the individual utilities into inside of our balancing authority our service area within allocate those rotating outages to their customers. they would make the determination about the best way to allocate them. pg&e tells me once they know from calaiso how much load is needed. they determine where they can shed that amount pg&e then targets circuit blocks to meet the required energy total provided by cal iso. no if you're wondering for how long they limit those rotating outages to about one hour to two

heat in san francisco is but a fleeting thing in san francisco leanne melendez abc 7 news you can check temperatures anytime in the weather on demand section of the abc 7 bay area streaming tv app downloaded for roku apple tv, amazon fire and google tv. evacuation orders are in for those living in the path of the mill fire they have now been lifted that fire burning in siskiyou county is 40% contained the california department of forestry and fire protection says the fire has grown by less than 10 acres since yesterday. it's burned about 4,200 acres overall though and 100 buildings. 66 year old woman and a 73 year old woman both died in the fire, but authorities have not released their names. they're currently more than a dozen fires actually burning across california. take a look. one of the biggest is the mountain fire also in siskiyou county so far this fire season nearly a quarter of a million acres have burned in the state of california. holiday travel the return home

they were over memorial day weekend still pretty rough. yeah abc news reporter alexis. christopherous has a look. for many americans the summer travel season is ending the way it started with flight delays and cancellations originally was supposed to leave at 7 am we were getting like updates all day or all week really and now it's leaving at 10 more than 5,000 flight delays at us airport since sunday about 300 canceled flights staffing shortages blamed for most of the travel troubles. they had thousands of people waiting. i mean it took us hours to get on that plane the tsa screening more than six million people since friday more than even before the pandemic in 2019. this is the busiest. i've seen it according to travel app hopper nearly 13 million passengers were scheduled to fly from us airports over the holiday weekend travel is back that people are excited to get out there and take those trips

surface we had an offshore breeze today and that's what brought the 90s the mid 90s into places like san francisco now, we've got a breeze starting to set up but we're still looking at a very stuffy evening coming our way. look at that. we're still near 100 inland by eight o'clock mid 80s around the bay but 66 at the coast and you can see 60 70s and still some 90s at 10 o'clock. and that's what leads to such difficult and challenging sleeping whether tonight is all of a sudden the 60s and 70s away from the coast in the 50s, but those yellows and oranges you see in our higher elevations. those are the 70s in the 80s and when we set the bar that high tomorrow is going to be even warmer. and today everybody in the south bay 100 to about 108 degrees 92 to 102 on the peninsula along the coast. there you go. we've got 70s and 80s 90s returning to downtown south san francisco eighties along the north bay coast till you get to bodega bay 76 look at that everybody. well over 100 tomorrow is actually one of the hottest days ever in the september in the bay

area and that's why you're not seeing so many record highs tomorrow low 90s to low 100s for the east bay 91 to 102. and here's a look at what's going on in the east bay everybody warmer than 110 degrees to 114 and it's a spare the air day tomorrow also so our all-time record high temperatures livermore forecasting one thirteen, santa rosa is gonna be close at 1:10, san jose 103 that's shower the 105 in redwood. city's 102 is short of that 106 so it could be worse but this will be the this go around now. he's going to try to tease us a little bit wednesday. it's gonna break nearly 10 degrees, but then look at thursday and friday it ramps back up and finally saturday. we're back in the 60s 70s 80s a few 90s and then mainly 60 70s and 80s over the weekend, but those extra clouds you see that's some tropical moisture coming up from hurricane k right now the thread of a thunderstorm is amenable but something we'll keep an eye on.

americans are living with the disease abc new r h a look at tg signs. as we get older we may forget a few things here and there but some signs of memory loss could mean something more serious like the onset of alzheimer's disease. i think the biggest misconception when it comes to alzheimer's disease. is that a lot of the signs and symptoms of alzheimer's are part of normal aging and unless you've cared for someone with alzheimer's it can be hard to know what to look out for abc news chief medical correspondent, dr. jennifer ashton has some tips to spot the onset of the disease. this is where the context is important the severity the frequency the magnitude of the memory loss all significant. for example, dr. ashton says that randomly for getting someone's name or an appointment is normal forgetfulness, but being unable to recall the name of your child heron or spouse consistently for getting appointments and failing to keep track of time are concerning signs. she says the symptoms of

a flex alert for six straight day. everyone is being asked to conserve power to try to prevent rolling blackouts. the flex alert has been extended an additional hour into the night dan until 10 o'clock. yeah. that's right. the people who run the power grid say, that's because we're entering the most intense part of this heat wave. forecasted demand for monday and tuesday is at all time record levels and the potential for rotating outages has increased significantly. we're looking at energy deficits of 2 to 4,000 megawatts, which is as much as a 10% of normal electricity demand. officials say we're going to need to double our efforts in the next few days to prevent rolling blackouts. the outages right now those orange squares you see on the pg&e map. show areas with up to 5,000 customers without power you can see locations in concord morgan hill pleasant hill and sunnyvale. these are not power safety outages the one that they do

washington governor newsom signed into law a first in the nation bill, that would let fast food workers negotiate better pay in working conditions. it's one of two high-profile labor bills abc 7 news. anchor liz kreitz is in the newsroom with more on these two measures liz. hi, dan. yeah and a rare move president. biden has weighed in on one of the bills. it's currently sitting on the governor's desk. it's a bill that will give farm workers more flexibility and how they can vote in union elections meantime today the governor did pass that much debated fast food workers bill and while the california restaurant association is against it union workers say it's a huge step forward for employee rights. on this labor day governor newsom signed into law a first in the nation measure that will give more than half a million fast food workers across the state more powers and protections. i'm proud on labor day to sign that bill and to shrine it in law the new law will create a fast food council that lets fast food and other restaurant workers negot.
