degrees. right now we are getting 93 in san francisco and areas that had records earlier are still around one await to 112. i heat advisory will be in effect until thursday. we have a heat advisory until 8:00 p.m. thursday for all locations around the shoreline and some spots near the coast. don't expect any relief tonight. low temperatures mainly between 65 and 75 degrees. some locations indicate record high overnight low temperatures for the state. no relief in sight for the next few days, but the forecast shows some relief later and i will have that for you later in the newscast. >> parts of the east bay are feeling the heat.

often sees the highest temperatures and even broke a record yesterday. in an area known for farms and ranches, sometimes the best way to cool down is at the mall. >> with record-breaking temperatures in gilroy, it was a priority to seek out some place to be cool on this hot day. people flocked to the outlets, but animals were not as lucky. no air conditioning in the barns at this training facility in the south bay. the south bay heat takes quite a toll on the horses. this according to the co-owner. >> they are more durable than we are, but 85, 90, above 100 it's a little hot for any animal. >> when a heat wave rolls through, the horses enjoy a splash of water. regulating body temperature is critically important for horses

>> pg&e says once they know how much load is needed, they determine where they can shed that amount. then they determine the circuit box. if you're wondering for how long, they limit the outages to about one to two hours per customer block which is a neighborhood. the rolling outages and when kauai so directs pg&e to restore power to all customers. you can find out more on pg&e's website. pg&e says they try to make sure customers are not impacted back to back. if they try -- if you will be impacted, they tried to notify everyone but it is not always possible. >> any idea what we can expect tomorrow? >> tomorrow could be worse.

today california became the first state to enact a law allowing fast food workers to negotiate for higher pay and better working conditions. >> the president has weighed in on one of the bills currently sitting on gavin newsom's desk. it will give farmworkers more flexibility on how they can vote in union elections. the governor did pass a fast woodworkers bill. the association is against it, but union workers say it is a huge step forward for employee rights. >> governor newsom signed into law a first in the nation measure that will give more than 500,000 workers across the state more powers and protections. >> i'm proud on labor day to sign the bill. >> it will create a festered counsel but let's fast food

end of the month to sign it. the united farmworkers believe the governor may have some reservations about one part of it. it is the part that would allow farmworkers to keep efforts to unionize secret from their employer. he said if employers learn about efforts to early, they can take is yours to stop it. they believe if the governor does not sign it, it could be because of that but they are remaining hopeful that he will. >> evacuation orders for those living in the path of the mill fire or lifted. it is about 40% contained. two women both died in the fire unfortunately. other names have not been released. california department of forster and fired prevention says the fire has grown by less than 10 acres since yesterday. sacramento firefighters who had been helping with the larger fire in oregon are now back in california to deal with this fire. >> people are here at a moments

today's high temperatures included record highs for this date. we have an unconfirmed reading of 117 at fairfield. that would be an all-time record. looking out over san francisco, it is 84 degrees right now. the official reading was 91 here earlier. san jose 100. 64 at half moon bay. there was no marine layer over the golden gate and we would not have one tonight either. fairfield 112. 10 wait at livermore. another view from the rooftop camera, these temperatures will persist through friday. we can expect more record highs

and increased fire danger. one more look at the excessive heat morning in effect for all locations in the coast through 8:00 p.m. thursday. daytime highs will be up to 115 and the hottest spots. near the coast, we have a heat advisory for the same time until 8:00 p.m. thursday. highs will be at or above 98 degrees. no marine layer. a patch or two of clouds and that's about it. overnight lows will be uncomfortable. mid 60's to mid 70's. tomorrow it will be hot once again.

san mateo 78. 90 will be the high and downtown san francisco. the north bay, numerous 100 degree plus readings. up to 110 in santa rosa. along the east bay shoreline, 94 in oakland. castro valley 100 tomorrow. further inland, all triple digits. all above 110 up to 116 in fairfield. here is the 7-day forecast. notice how the heat holds on through friday. low to mid 90's around the bay shoreline. cooling on friday, but not much. this weekend, we get cooling relief for all regions of the bay area.

temperatures will reach or exceed 98 degrees. good news may not arrive until next weekend. this heatwave will persist through friday. it might peek tomorrow, but drop off a little bit wednesday then bounceback on thursday. no significant cooling for the weekend. >> education is a key component in building a better bay area and tomorrow schools will have to deal with the heat. san is a unified says they are ready to say -- keep students safe and keep them inside during the hottest parts of the day. recess and lunch may be inside rather than outside. all classrooms have air conditioning. >> it's pretty late in the year, so it is unusual to have this level of heat for this many days and a road or in the school year.

energy during peak hours or face possible rolling blackouts. now they are adding another incentive. >> if you are a residential consumer, you can get paid to unplug your devices and save energy when the grid is under stress. >> the public utilities are offering a power saver reward program. it gives credits to residents for reducing energy use on flex alert days. >> the heat waves in california are getting worse. this program incentivizes people to voluntarily reduce their electricity usage. >> pg&e will calculate how much energy you normally use during peak hours of 4 p.m. until 9 p.m.. if you use less energy during those times on flex alert days, pg&e will credit your account. you get two dollars for every kilowatt hour you save. >> it adds up to sometimes be a lot of money. >> one kilowatt hour powers 1000

watts for one hour. if you normally run your drier for one hour, it would use up to five kilowatts. if you avoid using it during the peak hour, you would save up to $10. as for other appliances, and electric stove uses up to five kilowatts. same for 310 air conditioner. an electric car charger uses much more, up to 20 kilowatts. unplugging during one peak hour could earn you $40. >> if you plug in your electric vehicle at that time or you are blasting the air conditioner in every room of your house or running the laundry by moving those activities to a later part of the day or just not doing them, that's where we can see the potential savings. >> here is the small print. credits are only offered on flex alert days like today and tomorrow. it won't show up on your bill until next season.

>> it is finally game week. the 49ers open their season on sunday in chicago. lastly, the news broke that to me garoppolo would be staying with the 49ers. he returns this season as trey lance as backup. this artist has been drawing him with amazing accuracy. she committed to drawing him every day until he got traded. he is still on the team and the drawings continue. today on zoom, i caught up with her and her boyfriend who originally inspired her to start this project in february. >> i love the 49ers. i love art as well.
