moving forward finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. good evening, and thank you for joining us. i'm on dates. i'm larry beale. we'll begin with developing news on the peninsula and this is a gruesome story a woman killed this afternoon right in the middle of a san carlos neighborhood investigators just held a news conference releasing more information abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo live in san carlos with the latest amanda. larry alma every detail more horrific sources telling the i-teens dandoys that a man headed a woman in the middle of the street in front of witnesses that man has been arrested. we know what happened just before noon todayhe bckf laureld here in san carlos. we're told the two were in an

ongoing relationship. however sources say the victim reportedly got a temporary restraining order against the suspect the victim was between 23 to 27 years old a mother of two young children that man who was arrested known to law enforcement details surrounding what led up to the incident are unknown at this time, but we're told officers we're flagged down at magnolia and laurel by a witness for what the san mateo county. sheriff's office says was a report of an assault in progress. they arrived within minutes and found an obviously deceased female in the street in that area. they began to work the scene and shortly thereafter the male suspect arrived back in the scene and was quickly detained by sheriff's deputies. he was later placed under arrest for homicide. we can confirm that a stabbing instrument was used in the commission the crime that weapon is still outstanding the search for that weapon still ongoing. we're told the suspect suffered a medical emergency of some sort, but details are limited

three rolling blackouts could be imminent right now. the forecast is considered even more complex than earlier this week even more heat which means the potential for more demand and therefore a greater chance of outages. so here is what we're tracking calaisa's demand trend which monitors the influx and demand in real time. it updates every five minutes but notice right now demand is starting to climb after dropping for the first time this afternoon sitting in the range of around 48,000 megawatts. now, this is slightly below the projected forecast, and that's a good sign. this will be the longest flex alert. we've had over the past nine days going until 10 o'clock tonight so far conservation efforts have been working, but in order to keep it that way the state says emergency alerts may be sent out again tonight if needed calaiso says another challenge they're facing is potential for smoke and cloud cover over solar fields that may reduce our energy supply. we also expect our solar

capacity to be somewhat diminished from the impacts of hurricane k moving up the baja coast towards southern california and from fire smoke. so we're looking at another challenging day today and tomorrow. since the rolling blackouts in august of 2020 the california energy commission has instituted 161 projects totaling more than 9,000 megawatts of capacity to the state's grid and there certainly more work ahead. in fact calaiso says tomorrow will again be a challenge for us considering it high risks. so keep doing what you're doing turn off all your lights and if you can raise your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, and of course avoid using any major appliances during that flex alert until 10:00 tonight and pg&e says the risk for any rolling blackouts is about the same today, but of course that can change any second. so keep an eye out for any emergency alerts stephanie sierra abc 7 news stephanie. thank you. hopefully we can avoid any of those rolling blackouts. just one more day to get

through. thank you. well classrooms are getting hotter a recent report found more than 13,000 schools in the us that didn't need hvac systems in 1970 have installed or will need to install them. 2025 as abc 7 news senior education reporter liam melendez tells us it will cost california schools more than a billion dollars. three teachers in oakland sent abc 7 news photos of their thermometers and thermostat at 8:28 tuesday morning. it was 76 degrees outside and almost 81 in the classroom another oakland teacher recorded 85 degrees indoors. it's been a long unbearable week at those schools that never really needed air conditioning. it's 11:20 right now, and it's currently 80 degrees inside my classroom. here's video of her classroom as the little ones were lying on the carpet hotter temperatures have an adverse effect on learning and it's definitely hard for them to focus and and

really concentrate in absorb the curriculum that i'm still trying to teach at pinole valley high school at least 21 staff members called in sick on wednesday when the air conditioning system fail to work properly, which has been an ongoing problem a teacher recorded the temperature inside a classroom 88.5 degrees. the problem has now been right. now what we can do is we can do our best to plan for the next time that a big heat event like this happens according to a report by the center for climate integrity called hotter days and america's classrooms more than 2,600 school districts have now been added to the list of those that will experience 32 days or more of 80 degrees or higher during the school year by 2025. that's a 39% increase since 1970 32 days over 80 degrees is typically when hvac systems are installed looking ahead a costly proposition for any school

it made landfall over baja, peninsula. being heavy rain right now it is going to continue to veer westward and it'll make sort of a loop getting closer to southern california. that's where the brunt of the energy is going to go heavy rainfall expected there this weekend. it'll start tomorrow, but the heaviest this weekend, you will see a couple of inches of rain down there flash flooding is certainly a possibility. that is a big concern down there thunderstorms are certainly possible as well. your morning temperatures will range from the 50s to the 70s one more warm night inland and then you will notice the big change afternoon highs in the south bay 100 in morgan hill 88 degrees there in milpitas and on the peninsula los altos 87 89 redwood city these temperatures coming down upper 60s coast side and breezy 72, san francisco north bay 95 in santa rosa 92 in san rafael heading into the east bay 80, oakland 88 fremont inland areas. still sizzling 104 and fairfield 102 in livermore. not quite as hot as what we have seen today as you look at the
