public transit agencies are struggling to lower back riders. to that end a number of transit agencies announced services today from extending hours to adding troops -- trips. reporter: changes in starting monday for bay area transit, announcing new schedules for trains and buses. >> we have to make the best case that we can to our riders to come back to bart. reporter: he says a new schedules will have trains but are spaced apart on evenings and weekends to serve late-night workers and those attending events. it adds transit earlier in the morning and adjust for track maintenance. it sees bart moving to one standard five lane schedule for both saturday and sunday. >> if you are used to catching a train on 1115 on saturday, you can catch it on 11:15 on sunday. >> bart ridership took a massive

july 2022, you can see the total ridership drastically decrease, from 10 million to one million. in july 2022, total station exit had only rebounded to 3 million. reporter: will they ever get back to the numbers i saw pre-pandemic? >> the remote work model has changed allow the dynamics for us. the biggest factor in our ridership was office occupancy. >> prior to the pandemic, they were the two stations with the largest number of exits. in july 2022 that was still true, the total station exit were significantly lower at each. it was 70 -- 71% lower in montgomery street exits worse -- were 75% lower. >> a heavily relied on people that worked in the financial district. >> he says they need to work on

karina: today on abc 7 monday night football is back with a broncos taking on the seahawks in seattle. at 10 p.m. it is real fortune, jeopardy at 10:30, stay with us for abc7news at 11:00 after that. dan: a few months ago the art community was shocked to find out the san francisco art institute had closed for financial reasons. the most financial -- the asset, was a mural. one of three located in san francisco, we got some answers. >> the making of a fresco was painted by him in 1931, it's home has always been the san francisco art institute on chestnut street. the same institution operated 150 years closed in july do to a series of financial hardships. one week before they did conservators had just finished

restoring the mural. he prefers the term conserved. >> conservations mean you clean it up, take care of the glitches, in the meantime, another mural is in good shape. reporter: public access to the mural is in question, there is an effort to preserve the institute's historical archives. a check for 2500 paid for the mural and another for 500. >> it was a lot of money at the time. reporter: jeff gunderson of the art institute, today the mural may be worth an estimated 50 million, the university of california owns the land and building and was in a lease agreement with the art institute. >> the mural could be detached and transported to another site except that last year the san francisco board of supervisors voted to give it landmark status. legally it cannot be moved. they did this to avoid any
