i'm dan ashley and i'm a dates the other story we're following tonight is a grim outlook for the future of san francisco's economic recovery as the city struggles to compete. international tourists abc 7 news reporter stephanie, sierra is digging into that force and is here with us tonight. steph yes, jan and alma the main issues plaguing san francisco open. ed markets homelessness and property crime are not only causing problems for those of us who live and work here, but are now pushing international tourists away in ways. we haven't seen before and experts worry if we don't see improvements soon. the city's economic future may never fully recover. san francisco used to be one of the most iconic tourism hot spots in the world, but today the city is struggling to keep international tourism alive. why scenes like this people shooting up in broad daylight homeless tense crowding the sidewalks and people like this we saw today.

you know, you have to be honest. we have to tell them the truth about what to expect in san francisco. anybody who's planning a convention is going to come here and see for themselves. joe d'alessandro was the president and ceo of sf travel. his team has talked with more than 2,000 meeting planners who schedule conventions in san francisco. so a lot of visitors are concerned and they're concerned for their own safety. they don't know where to walk blocks from the moscone center clients. see first hand the dirty streets open drug markets crowding the sidewalks and belligerent encounters like this man who threw a water. to let our car as we drove by it's these issues. he says is causing former clients to turn to other cities like austin chicago and boston offering in their eyes cleaner and cheaper alternatives every customer that we talked to at most every meeting planner that we talked to talks to us about that situation the challenges that we have and and when they make that final decision of where they're going to bring their convention those all come into the to the deciding factors

happen until 2024. deputy sierra abc 7 news not her coverage to do. thank you stephanie. san francisco is changing course when it comes to requesting that a juvenile offender be charged as an adult today district. attorney brooke jenkins announced she's abandoning the policy of recall da chesibudin to never charge a juvenile as an adult. jenkins says effective immediately. she's forming a juvenile review team that will consider whether to recommend that a 16 or 17 year old should be tried as an adult. we cannot allow families. of victims. we cannot allow victims themselves. to remain without justice or accountability in very very serious and egregious cases. jenkins says the review will collaborate with all parties involved including members of the victim and offender families. it's important to note that in california, das can only request that a juvenile be charged as an

adult. the final decision is made by a judge breaking news in vallejo sky 7 was over the neighborhood near vallejo high school about 30 minutes ago where you can see there is a heavy police response. we saw officers putting crime tape up and closing off at least one street in front of the school. we do not have a whole lot of details here, but we want you to know we are on it and asking questions. we are making some calls and we will find out exactly what is going on and let you know leaders in antioch are demanding reforms for the police department and one of the people leading the charge is the police chief. it comes as eight officers around leave while being investigated by a grand jury for possible misconduct abc 7 news reporter. ryan curry has the details police chief steven ford and council members monica wilson and tunisia torres walker are calling for changes within the antioch police department. k-9 bite policy. early intervention to track and monitor use of force. implementation of a system to monitor cell phone use this comes as eight members of the

police department are on leave while the fbi district attorney and grand jury investigate them for possible misconduct our media partners at the bay area news group revealed some of the incidents being looked at by the grand jury one incident involved a canine officers use of his police dog. we saw in the recent east bay times articlehat talked about various abuses that may have been caused by the antioch police department. to me that is unacceptable the police chief and the council members want the entire city council to start talking about these reforms as soon as possible. they want to look at the entire. are use of force from the police department, especially how they deploy their canines. we'll conduct a top-down assessment of our canine policy. resource serves great utility for the organization. however, we'll take a closer. look at how we deplore our canines with emphasis on mitigating unnecessary harm and liability changes to the policy need to be made by the antioch city council the article from the bay area news group says attorney. michael raines is representing one of the officers under

today governor newsome introduced a new tool to offer more information about abortion access in the state for both residents and visitors, california. just launched a brand new resource a resource for those seeking reproductive care whether you live here or not. the new website includes information on legal rights to an abortion in california where people can find providers and how to pay for services or get financial assistance. the website is also available in spanish and there are plans to add additional languages governor newsom said the website does not track visitor information. the community organization that pushed to create california's reparations task force for african-americans is urging the governor to veto legislation extending the deadline for the committee to complete its work the coalition for justin equitable, california says the extension sends a demoralizing message to african-americans already skeptical that they'll actually receive reparations the task forces chairperson says the group's final report will be released within its original time frame, which is next july.
