reached a content -- a tentative agreement which narrowly avoided a strike that would have shut down rail systems not on here in fremont that also across the country. around 60,000 real workers were sent to strike friday, fighting for better salaries, fits, and time off. a strain would have suspended services into an agreement was reached. concerns of a supply chain disruption round the table as 30% of all goods transported are on freight trail. trucks cannot keep up with demand. we talked with the san joaquin regional rail commission on what this would have meant for rider s. >> suspension of service puts people in a difficult place, trying to find alternative forms of transportation. they don't want to be stuck in traffic on the way to the office. this has a real human impact. ryan: president biden --

reporter: president biden releasing a statement saying i think the unions and rail companies for negotiating in good faith and reaching a tentative agreement that we keep our rail system working and avoid destruction of our economy. amtrak has responded saying amtrak is working to cancel -- to restore canceled trans and working out first available departures. we will have updates as soon as that information becomes available. rail companies estimated the strike could have wracked the economy by $2 billion a day. reggie: a major blow to the bay area, american airlines is relocating hundreds of flight attendants who were based out of sfo to other parts of the country. here is j.r. stone. >> it is a sad day.

it feels like a kick in the get. reporter: tim schwartz, a 27-year-old flight attendant for american airlines is reacting to news he will have to be california. one of 403 bay area american airlines flight attendants that will be relocated or offered retirement packages as the company will close its san francisco flight attendant base. >> we are a close family and it makes it hard to know that our family will be broken up. reporter: american airlines says, "expect san francisco to maintain the same of love flying there is today, but there are no plans to grow san francisco and no future flying prospects. a fellow at stanford's hoover institution says this is sadly not surprising, saying last year san francisco lost 6.5% of its population. >> san francisco is the slowest growing major city in the country. they moved by american is an

indication that san francisco is not a growing location. reporter: some flight attendants being relocated have been with american airlines 20 to 40 years. that is something the airline likely took into consideration. >> american is thinking we have a lot of these folks will be retiring in the next five to 10 years. if we want to replace them and keep the flight attendant base in san francisco, it is going to be a killer for them to afford to live in the city. reporter: schwartz believes the financial impact of the pandemic might have been the adult. >> they are still bleeding cash. they have to be careful with how they spend their money. san francisco flight attendants are the casualties of that. reporter: schwartz tells me he is looking at the possibility of relocating to phoenix or dallas.
