as we head further down the shoreline, around hayward, 880, showers and heavier rain east of pescadero. it's 22 in oakland. the wind advisory for the coast, wind gusting to 23 miles per hour in half moon bay. that gives us a warm start by 12 degrees. a level 1 system today. tomorrow, thunderstorms become a better probability with showers lingering. showers will continue throughout the afternoon. the heaviest rain will be this morning as the cold front pushes through. scattered showers and time for the 49ers game. scattered showers throughout the day. the rain and wind hitting the bay area at right now. some areas may be feeling the size of the storm harder than others.

abc seven news shows us how this is impacting bay area events. >> some tunes, art, wind. -- wine. >> a little chardonnay at lafayette food and wine festival. >> we typically have around 400 vendors, and we usually expect to get somewhere around 65,000 people for the weekend, so it is a big event. >> organizers are keeping close tabs on the weather with the possibility of drenching rain and gusting wind. >> our motto is when it rains, we pour, and we will be happy to pour wine for anyone who comes down. >> we know it will get pretty gusty in some places tomorrow. that is why a lot of the tents are weighed down by sandbags. >> others are weighed down by 50 gallons drums. >> these are water tanks and they are held to the stage.

you can't move these are they are heavy. we feel these tents are very secure. >> miles away, these sidewalks here are empty, and they will stay that way sunday. on facebook, you will find this post about the alameda chalk festival. event postponed due to rain in the forecast. in san francisco on this saturday night signs alerting , people that sunday streets western addition is off because of concerns about the wind. >> it was a really difficult decision to make, but we did decide to cancel when the wind advisory came in and it just was not going to be safe to set up in the wind. >> the last time it was in this neighborhood was before the pandemic. this year? >> we are expecting about 10,000 folks. we had almost a dozen musical acts planned we had about 90 visitors and -- vendors and exhibitors coming out. >> but organizers said they are not taking any chances given the possibility of high wind. >> it just did not make sense to have hundreds of staff and volunteers roll out in the rain, wind, and potentially thousands

of attendees be battling the wind and barricades blowing over and things like that. amanda: as the bay area braces for an early-season storm, the city of oakland is encouraging businesses and residents to adopt a storm drain as part of the adopt a drain program to prevent streets from letting. -- from flooding. the city plans to provide rates, -- rakes, brooms and other , cleaning supplies. the approaching storm is giving many people reason to prepare and be rain-ready. after nearly six months of dry weather and drought conditions, precipitation is cause for excitement and some concern. abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard is in the north bay. >> we are ready. fill the well. cornell: john is ready for september rain. he is in no votto -- no votto -- nnovado looking to outfit

employees at trader joe's with rain boots. >> just got a bunch of rain gear. i got some boots. >> just doing a remodel and have some holes for skylights that are open and worried about the storm. >> these are the emergency bags the flood barriers. , you put them out flat and dry. when the water hits them they absorb the rain and provide a barrier. >> manager brian isley says rain gear is suddenly back in fashion. >> it is a lot of preparedness as well. i'm not quite sure how much rain is going to come. >> this was rain from last winter. >> we have our fire crew stepped -- staffed up and then we staffed up some engines as well. >> the marin county battalion fire chief says his battalion is adding extra crews, concerned about storm damage between sunday and monday. >> as that rain comes in, all our trees still have all their leaves on and stuff, so we will have a lot of tree down and power lines down, that kind of stuff. >> this weather station will be on duty providing real-time

hollister police confirmed she came home thursday around 11:30 and walked in on two suspects armed with handguns. she is a white french allowed with black spots. police were told thieves got away in a silver chevy malibu with paper plates. house speaker nancy pelosi along with two other bay area congresswomen arrived in armenia saturday. pelosi is the highest ranking u.s. official to visit armenia since the country gained independence. as we are told, many armenian americans in the bay area are hopeful the visit will lead to diplomatic breakthroughs. >> huge crowds came out for the 65th annual armenian food festival, the largest in the bay area. >> it is just us getting together, all of our friends and cooking food, serving everybody. it is fun. >> as armenian americans celebrate here, house speaker nancy pelosi led a delegation that arrived in armenia saturday for high-level talks. the delegation includes bay area

demanding an end to diesel vehicles. they will have to face out into zero emission vehicles by 2024. officials with the trucking association say truckers about the practicality with lack of charging stations, the cost, and the limited range of electric vehicles. abc7news is committing to building a better bay area and one of the issues we are focusing on is climate change and the environment. thousand at the berkeley waterway in search of trash. the annual coastal cleanup day is designed to raise awareness and a chance to volunteer alongside families, scout troops, and other organizations to help clean up some beloved attractions. >> we found about 2000 pounds of trash just in berkeley. that might not sound like a lot, but that might sound like a lot,

but a lot of it is paper and styrofoam, so if you can imagine how much paper and styrofoam we had to collect to get amanda: hundreds of people were a part of the cleanup in berkeley. if you would like to volunteer, cleanup days are held on the third saturday of each month. in the south bay, volunteers cleaned up a creek park. volunteers pick up trash by nearby natural habitats. so far, within 220 thousand pounds of trash was collected. this weekend, the santa cruz county fair is back. you can take a trip back in time at yesterday's farm. organizers held a junior livestock auction this afternoon -- saturday afternoon featuring prize pigs, rabbits, and other farm animals. today is the final day of the fair. it is being held at the county fairgrounds near watsonville.

meteorologist lisa argen is tracking the forecast. lisa: we will be looking at a soggy day. you can see a big swath of rain. in the north bay, it is along the coast from highway one. a bit of a break and then more showers and a, napa and heading to the east. light shower activity along highway four around concord. some raindrops as well as the coast in sunnyvale and saratoga. it will continue to rotate. wind is over 35 miles per hour. in the upper elevations, 60 miles per hour. hayward, with wind gusts to 32.

upper elevations near 40 miles per hour. it is 10 to 12 degrees milder. from coastal hills to sonoma to big sur, through the next several hours, the wind will be stronger through 1:00. wind gusts of 52 miles per hour. here is a look at the front. this will be the widespread, steady rain through the next couple of hours. heavy downpours. a bit of a break. you can see more heavy downpours and the possibility of a thunderstorm. the heavy downpours from the north bay, santa rosa, showers certainly a possibility for the 49ers game.

are short right now. >> the current shortage would jump to more than 800 officers. to be fully staffed, san francisco should have 2100. in 2020, there were 1900 11 sworn officers. in september of 2021, that up to 1830. in april 2022, it dropped again. today, the number sits at a new low, 1600 51 full duty sworn officers. >> that is a failed. -- a fail. >> even though we currently have 1600 full duty sworn officers, the chief told abc7news last month on average there are only around officers working patrol citywide each day. >> it is a strain.

association of firefighters held a vigil for those who have died. it has the name of firefighters died on duty or succumbed to illnesses. they honored 469 firefighters who paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect their communities. >> our prayers and our hearts go out to eat and every family member who has added a loved one's name to this wall and those families presently who have added their names. amanda: it is the first year people gathered for the ceremony since the beginning of the pandemic. each family was given a special flag. honoring the past and celebrating the future at the 35th annual chinese historical and cultural project. it got underway last night.

funds were raised to preserve chinese culture and history through commodity -- unity outreach. puerto rico is preparing for tropical storm fiona expected to make landfall today. it has the storm possibly strengthening to a hurricane by the time it hits a short it could put the eye west of san juan. they are boarding up windows. the primary concern is intense rain which could trigger mudslides. and alaska, homes being ripped from foundations as a massive storm surges bringing coastal flooding and prompting evacuations. this video was shared showing home floating and hitting a bridge. it is made up from remnants of a typhoon. water levels are at least eight feet above normal.

welcome back. we hope the guy you see in the hat is getting plenty of rest this weekend. that's greg cook a runner who just jugged 40 miles saturday morning from san francisco to petaluma. he was joined by a few friends along the way cook ran to raise money for prostate cancer research so far. he says he's raised about 12,000 dollars cook left san francisco at about 6am and arrived in petaluma. just before 3 pm the run took him through south toledo mill valley and several other parts of the north bay the number 40 also added some significance is he just turned 40 years old yesterday. happy birthday greg now happening today if you're looking for something fun to do grab your rain boots the 65th

annual mill valley full arts festival gets underway this morning. it will take place amongst the redwoods at mill valley's historic old mill. despite the wet weather of the festival is scheduled to go on all day. it's from 10 am until 5 pm organizers say there's something for everyone including art live music food crafts and entertainment for the kids. next on abc 7 mornings at 6 am the bay area is slated to get some rain today. we're all ready taking it. we know a look at how people are preparing for the incoming weather in the north bay and a woman brutally beaten as her beloved pet was stolen at gunpoint the crime caught on camera.
