a heavier to moderate shower. let showers from 680, walnut creek. done by the santa cruz mountains, getting decent rain. a live look outside, temperatures in the low to mid-60's. as you look at the golden gate bridge, lots of dark clouds. 71 in livermore, 10 degrees warmer this hour than yesterday. when from eight to 35 miles an hour, they will continue to increase with a wind advisory through 4:00 a.m. monday. exclusive storm impacts scale level 1 system today, tomorrow and tuesday. slight chance of thunderstorms today, better chance tomorrow. on and off showers right in time for the 49er game, we will talk about how much rain you will get in your neighborhood for a two day total, which will be coming up in a few minutes. amanda: as she mentioned, the rain and wind hitting the bay area right now. some areas feeling the sizable

them. they are heavy. we feel that they are very secure. reporter: miles away, these sidewalks are empty and will stay that way sunday. on facebook, you will find this post. event postponed due to rain in the forecast. in san francisco on the saturday night, signs alerting people that the western addition is off because of concerns about the wind. >> it was a difficult decision, we did decide to cancel when the wind advisory came in. it was not going to be safe to set up in the wind. reporter: the last time it was in this neighborhood was before the pandemic. >> we were expecting about 10,000 folks, we had almost a dozen musical acts plan, about 90 vendors and exhibitors coming out. reporter: organizers say they are not taking any chances, given the possibility of high wind. >> it did not make sense to have hundreds of staff and volunteers roll out in the rain and wind,

and potentially thousands of attendees be battling the wind and barricades flying over, things like that. amanda: as the bay area braced for the early-season storm, the city of oakland is encouraging his nieces and residents to adopt a storm drain. it is part of a program to prevent streets from flooding. the city plans to provide rakes, brooms and other cleaning supplies. ready or not, the rain is here. windshield wipers were needed this morning for drivers in marin county. this is what looked like in san rafael about an hour ago. a storm gave many people a reason to prepare. after nearly six months of dry weather and drought conditions, the precipitation is cause for excitement and concern. >> we are ready. reporter: he is ready for september rain. he is in novato, looking to

outfit his employees at trader joe's with rain boots. >> we got a bunch of rain gear, some boots to be ready for the rain to stay dry and safe. reporter: he needed tarps to cover his roof. >> doing a remodel, have some holes for skylights that are open. worried about the storm. >> these are emergency bags of flood barriers. you put them out flat and dry, when the water hits and they absorb it and turn into a sandbag or barrier. reporter: the manager says rain gear is suddenly back in fashion. >> it is a lot of preparedness, not quite sure how much rain is going to come. reporter: this was rain from last winter. >> we have our fire crew staffed up, we staffed up some engines as well. reporter: the battalion chiefs is adding extra cruise, concerned about storm damage between sunday and monday. >> as the rain comes in, all of the trees still have all the leaves. we will have a lot of tree down

power lines down, that kind of stuff. reporter: the weather station will be on duty, providing real-time information about rainfall amounts and water levels. no flooding is expected. >> i welcome it, we need rain. early and often, as i like to say. let us get it in small doses of you not have flood issues. reporter: in santa rosa, the free sandbag station opened friday. she was here feeling -- filling sandbags to protect her home. >> i am glad it is raining. i hope it rains more. reporter: the santa rosa fire department tweeting, argue rain ready during fire season? upwards of two inches possible through tuesday. >> it is a welcome sight, to put a temporary pause on critical fire season we are facing. though this is not enough rain to get us out of fire season, it will slow things down. amanda: of course, our abc 7

they tweeted this video of two men dashing out the front door with her dog. hollister police confirmed ropes came home thursday around 11:30 and walked in on two suspects armed with handguns. she is a white french bulldog with black spots. the thieves got away in a silver chevy malibu with paper plates. a strong earthquake shock much of taiwan this morning, toppling a three-story building and temporarily trapping for people inside. the ceiling of a school gym came crashing down, you see it there. the 6.8 quake is the largest and latest around the island's southeastern coast. it doesn't have hit the same area. a 6.4 struck last night. -- dozens have the same area. people lived on the top floors. the 70-year-old owner and his wife were rescued first, it took

longer to get a 39-year-old woman and her five-year-old daughter out. house speaker nancy pelosi and two other bay area congresswomen arrived in armenia saturday. she is the highest-ranking u.s. official to visit since the country gained independence. many armenian americans are hopeful the visit will be to the medic breakthroughs. -- lead diplomatic breakthroughs. reporter: this is the largest armenian festival in the bay area. >> it is just awesome to get with all of our friends and cook for everybody. it is fun. reporter: as armenian americans celebrate, how speaker pelosi led a delegation that arrived in armenia saturday. the delegation includes jackie speier and another, both of whom are of armenian descent.

roxanne is with the san francisco chapter of the armenian national committee of america. they met with congresswoman spear before the trip. >> it is heartwarming to know that even in her last months as a congresswoman, she is going to push as hard as she possibly can for the safety and security of armenia. reporter: in a statement, pelosi says the visit to armenia is a powerful symbol of u.s. firm commitment to a peaceful, prosperous and democratic armenia. >> the u.s. is setting the stage to maybe replace russia. reporter: the u.s. is also flexing its diplomatic muscle by backing up recognition of the armenian genocide and upholding human rights against what she calls a growing wave of fascism in a region where russia has played a big role, following the breakup of the soviet union. >> we are supporting democratic forces, we are going to step up to that and make the world aware

2024. officials with the california trucking association say that truckers worry about the practicality involved with the costs. lack of charging stations and the current limited range of electric vehicles. the board is holding a public hearing in october on the proposal. abc 7 news is committed to building a better bay area. one of the issues we are focusing on is climate change and the environment. thousands of volunteers combed the berkeley marina and other waterways across the state saturday in search of trash. the annual california coastal cleanup day is designed to raise awareness about marine letter problems. it is a chance to volunteer alongside families, scout troops and other organizations help clean up some beloved attractions. >> we found about 2000 pounds of trash just in berkeley. that might not sound like a lot, it might sound like a lot. but a lot of it is paper and styrofoam. if you can imagine how much paper and styrofoam we had to collect to get 2000 pounds. amanda: hundreds of people were

part of the cleanup in berkeley. if you would like to volunteer, cleanup days are held on the third saturday of each month. in the south bay, volunteers cleaned up a county park as part of california coastal cleanup day. they picked up trash harmful to nearby natural habitats. nearly 30,000 people volunteer for the statewide cleanup. more than 220,000 pounds of trash is been collected. this weekend, the santa clara county fair is back. you can take a trip back in time at yesterday's farm. organizers held a junior livestock option saturday afternoon featuring priced pigs, rabbits and other animals. today is the final day, it is being held at the county fairgrounds. lisa is tracking the forecast, we know it is a soggy sunday. lisa: good morning, we have had about .23 around can feel, so --

temperatures in the low 70's right now in livermore. wind gusts from 20 to 30 miles an hour, we will continue to see them ramp up. wind advisory through 4:00 a.m., we are looking at them gusting to 45 miles an hour from the coast to the hills. here is a look at the 24 hour temperature change. it is much warmer in livermore. we look at the next several hours in terms of wind, check it out. 40 miles an hour at the coast within the next hour or so. by 2:00, over 50 miles an hour. you can see breezy all the way across into oakland and hayward and livermore. as we get to the rest of the day today, tracking the rain for you. here we are at 9:00. not raining everywhere, but waves of moisture will continue to push in through the bay area as the area of low pressure sits

yet to come. reporter: from drug deals to car break-ins, to anger on the streets. there is a lot to police in san francisco. the problem is we do not have enough officers, but we knew that. the new reality, the problem is worse than we thought. >> we have got to pick ourselves off feis up and dust ourselves off, québec into the game. reporter: she is the president of the san francisco police officers association. for months, they reported they've been more than 500 officers short. but in three months -- >> come december 31, three hundred people could walk out the door. that is on top of cops we are short now. reporter: if that happens, the shortage would jump to more than 800 officers. to be fully staffed, san francisco should have more than 2100 officers. in 2020, there were 1911 current

officers. september 2021, that dropped to 1830. in april 2022, that dropped again to 1723. today, it is a new low. 1651 full duty sworn officers. >> that is a fail. reporter: in more ways than one. the reality of boots on the ground is bigger than we think. the chief told abc7news last month on average, there are only around 300 officers working patrol citywide each day. >> it definitely is a string to keep up with the cost of service. reporter: documents obtained by the abc7news team show huge disparities within the call volume across all sfpd 10 district stations from june to august. 109 were assigned to the tenderloin during these months, more than any other district. the park district, a

lisa: we escaped the downpours early this morning, feels like fall. current temperatures, early-season rain. we could be doubling september totals or quadrupling them in some spots. the live doppler 7 give the band of rain moving through. we will see this throughout the day, on and off showers. closer inspection of the cell moving over the bay, north of san mateo. heavy downpour around 82, light to moderate rain from redwood city down through palo alto. we are taking you on a tour in the east bay from hayward to union city, 880 and 680. in the south bay, it has been on and off from san jose and sunnyvale. in the north bay, san francisco is wet as well as san rafael, a little brick toward oakland. far north on top of the radar sweep, more showers up to st. helena. look at the soggy view from san rafael, 62 in san francisco.

it is a braver person than me that could stand in this queue for this long. i am so proud of them for making this happen, the biggest in history. reporter: meanwhile, as final preparations for the queens funeral are underway, king charles is meeting with rep leaders who were in town, including the leaders of canada, australia, new zealand and jamaica. the queen consort paid tribute to the queen. >> she has got this wonderful blue eyes, when she smiles that letter per whole face. i will always remember that smile, it is unforgettable. reporter: around 2000 people will attend the state funeral on monday. today, a reception for world leaders. only working royals have been invited. harry, megan and andrew will not attend. amanda: president biden and the first lady arrived in london to attend we elizabeth sue numeral.

they are expected to pay their respects in an official condolence book before attending the reception. you can watch the funeral tomorrow morning here on abc seven. another load of migrants found its way north, this time a bus from texas dropped off about 50 people saturday outside vice president harris's home in washington, d.c. texas governor greg abbott has been sending migrants to democratic lead to cities as a way to protest the white house's immigration policies. florida governor ron desantis made headlines earlier this weekend when he had a group of migrants flown to martha's vineyard. the group dropped off in washington, d.c. yesterday was primarily from venezuela. officials say they will likely wind up in new york city. saturday, the internationalist nation of firefighters held a ceremony in honor of members that died in the line of duty. held at the fallen firefighter memorial in colorado springs, the sacred memorial has names of firefighters who died on duty or

succumbed to job related illnesses since 1918. thousands of family members gathered to honor 469 firefighters who paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect their communities. >> our prayers and our hearts go out to each and every family member who has added a loved one's name to this while in the past. and in those families presently that have added their names. amanda: it is the first year people gathered for the ceremony since the beginning of the pandemic. each family was given a special flag in memory of their fallen firefighter. honoring the past and celebrating the future at the 35th annual chinese historical and cultural project gala last night. it got underway in santa clara. funds were raised for the nonprofit to help preserve chinese culture and history through community outreach. it held the live auction, award ceremony and fashion show.

developing news in puerto rico, president biden approved an emergency declaration as fiona intensifies into a hurricane. right now, the storm is roaring near the island, bringing the threat of flooding and mudslides. we have seen people stocking up on last-minute supplies and boarding up windows. it was nearly five years ago to the day that hurricane maria battered the island. nearly 3000 people died in the wake of that storm. still ahead, the weather feels more like fall. how about airfare? the summer travel hassle is finally easing up. we have some advice for those looking ahead. we want to give you a live look, you can see the rain on the camera. it is a soggy sunday, we will check in with lisa for the forecast.

of people hitting the roads. take your time, we will check in with lisa in a few moments. it has been a tumultuous travel summer as americans broke free of covid restraints and took to the skies. will flying be easier this fall? we take a look ahead. >> i have flown a lot of times in my life, i have never had an experience like that. reporter: christina had just left a peaceful yoga retreat in the countryside of portugal. she was filled with a sense of calm and serenity, until she tried to fly home. >> i do not know what caused such a horrible thing. reporter: she was instantly immersed in air travel chaos when her flight was delayed three hours, then sat on the tarmac in toronto for two hours, causing her to miss your connecting flight home to sonoma. air canada locked its gate and ticket agents went home. christina slept an airport windowsill.

>> i used some of my technique i used to stay calm during the whole deal with the flight on the way home. i did not want to lose all of the good mojo. reporter: she was one of millions of passengers who paid high airfares only to face repent delays and cancellations during the peak days of summer travel. the toronto airport had the worst mobile on-time record the summer, with 51% of flights delayed. >> things got quite bad at the beginning of the summer. it was not just your imagination. within one and four flights were delayed into 3% of flights nationwide were canceled. that is significantly higher than the historical averages, and i think really underscores just what a difficult time it was for many false traveling. reporter: scott says airlines are struggling to ramp up after the pandemic low. hiring over summer has helped reduce delays and cancellations.

amanda: a piece of san francisco history is at risk of fading away. boy scout troop three has operated in chinatown for more than 100 years, withstanding all the ups and downs. they face new challenges. we sat in on one of their meetings. reporter: tucked away on the border of san francisco's chinatown, you will find a piece of the city's history few know is there. >> this is 1964, this was the trip at that time. reporter: boy scout troop three has withstood the test of time, becoming what is believed to be the oldest troop west of the mississippi river and the second oldest in the nation. stephen has been part of the troop for nearly 60 years, first as a scout and now is one of its scoutmasters. >> you see them when they are 11 years old, you see them when they graduated 18. just to see the change. reporter: today's troop is open
