no word on why the van ended up in the store. reggie: to shooting that left three people debt under investigation, the incidents happened in the span of 45 minutes. gunfire erupted in front of a grocery store at the corner of telegraph avenue and 31st street at 7:45 last night. three people were hurt, two of the victims died at the scene. a third person was driven to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 45 minutes later, police were called to east 20th street in east oakland. officers found a person on the sidewalk who had been shot. they died a short time later. homicide investigators are looking into both shootings. no word on any suspects. kumasi: we are learning more about the man who was shot and killed at an east bay intersection. family and friends spent part of the day at what is now a streetside memorial in san lorenzo. the killer has not been caught. abc 7 news has been on top of

the story since it broke sunday night. we spoke with the victims now widow. reporter: he was 30 years old, and you can see he was all smiles around his new wife, who he married four months ago in the philippines. she was on a face time with him moments before he was gunned down and killed sunday. >> i can't sleep. every time i try to sleep, every time i close my eyes, i can hear a lot of gunshots. reporter: deputies believe what happened in the intersection was a case of road rage. she said someone had cut into her husband's lane. >> i tried to stop him, i shouted at him. no, do not go out from your car. he left me on the phone, the screen is open. i heard several gunshots. that is it. he did not come back.

the only one who came is the sheriff. reporter: as he approached the other car, he was shot. deputies say they were in the area working another case and a sergeant responded within seconds. >> he tried to cater to the victim, but the victim was suffering multiple gunshot wounds and mortally wounded at that point. reporter: she was in the philippines and said they were excited for what was to come. they had just finished paperwork so she could come live with him in america. >> i am here in the philippines. i can't do anything. that is it. i just cry all night. almost collapse, every time i am scrolling down my gallery, my photos. it feels like, oh my god.

i have no husband anymore. reporter: deputies say there were witnesses. there is video and they are actively searching for the person or persons who fired the shots. at last check and arrests have been made. reggie: flora governor ron desantis is under criminal investigation after he took credit for flying approximately 50 migrants to martha's vineyard. more on how the cities are responding and repairing from migrants as their lives take political center stage. jobina: authorities in massachusetts and attorneys for the migrants have called for a probe into the legality of the governors move. an official investigation is underway from a texas sheriff. the democratic sheriff says migrants were lured from the migrant resource center in his county, flint of florida, then to massachusetts under false pretenses of being offered jobs. the migrants rolled a minute left to fend for themselves.

on his way to school friday. the city of san jose says they are repainting the crosswalk this morning. the neighbors who live there say that is not nearly enough. please drive slow, that is the plea from the communities surrounding castle mont elementary on the san jose campbell border. >> i think everybody feels like this could have been their child , and your heart goes out to this family. you want to be able to do something. reggie: residents are calling on the city to install speed bumps and stop signs. anything to keep the many kids in that community safe. in the meantime, the grieving community is taking the matter into their own hands, putting out their own safety signs, cones and flags for crossing. kumasi: governor newsom is taking action to address the need for affordable housing throughout the state. he signed a bill that requires state agencies to annually review and determine if land under their jurisdiction is suitable for residential development.

it codifies the program that newsom created in 2019. the state is seeking qualified developers to build housing on five state owned properties, you can see the locations here. some 4400 new homes are in various stages of development under the program. reggie: san francisco leaders will be in japan town to announce a big upgrade. peace plausible get a $6 million renovation from state funding. it is part of an effort to make peace with japanese-americans who were forced into internment camps during world war ii. there will be a tour and a look into the city's plans for renovation, alongside community members. kumasi: elton john is gearing up for his bay area concert next month, but first he is stopping by the white house. he will be performing on the south lawn friday. invites were set out recently, guests will be required to be tested for covid-19 before they attend. it is part of an event called a night when hope and history rhyme.

francisco, police are investigating a shooting that left two women hurt in the mission district. it happened around 6:30 last night at 23rd and valencia streets. officers found two women who were shot. he performed life-saving measures, both were taken to the hospital. one had life-threatening injuries. so far, no arrest has been made. kumasi: californians will have an option for a different type of burial. the governor signed a bill into law that allows for human composting. gloria is live in the newsroom with more details about the whole process. gloria: california will become the fifth state to legalize human composting. advocates say it is an environmentally friendly alternative to end-of-life options, but some oppose this. this is a reenactment video that shows you some of the process the seattle-based company uses to turn human remains into soil. the founder and ceo, who used to live in the bay area, says it is

growing in popularity. she says they are thrilled the governor signed the bill into law, and they plan to open a facility in california when it takes effect. >> think about it is a cousin to cremation, it is a process that happens to your body. it changes on a molecular level. then, the family is given back something. in cremation, it is ashes. in human composting, it is soil. you can do something with that material that is meaningful to the family. some families choose to bury the ashes, which you can do with soil. some people choose to grow a tree with the soil, which you cannot do with ashes. gloria: i talked to an assembly member who has been pushing the bill, she says is one of the more natural ways to deal with our bodies at the end of life. they want to give californians another option. the law is expected to take effect in 2027, but there is opposition. groups like the california
