violence in oakland police are trying to determine what led up to a shooting on 51st avenue near international boulevard oakland police found a man at the scene bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest his condition as well as a mode of the shooting is not known as part of building a better bay area. we are committed to finding solutions to the bay area's biggest issues and there may not be a bigger one right now than people's sense of safety in the years just before the pandemic oakland saw some of its lowest homicide numbers in a decade, but if you look at this you can see what happens since the pandemic started those numbers have gone up dramatically. already this year oakland has seen 91 killings. and the question a lot of people are trying to answer is what is the solution? just a couple of days ago on tuesday two people were shot at a bus. stop outside of city hall one man died and that shooting happened near assembly woman mia bontes office. she says the pandemic affected the city's response to stopping violence, and she says part of the rebuilding process involves giving funding to groups already

present in oakland trying to stop the violence. the city's department of violence prevention works to establish relationships with families to try to prevent crimes before they have been a lot of touch points that we offer to our loved ones. and those are the things that work building what we call the slow dance and the relationship with these loved ones. so win their individual network community or family or caught up in some turmoil. we have earned the right ryan for us to come in and say hey family what's going on? assembly woman banta says she is prepared to take legislative action to give community-based organizations the funding they need. oakland city council members say the community to step up to curb the violence yesterday on our show getting answers abc 7 spoke with councilmember at noel gallo. we as a father and a mother brother and sister we need to be responsible. those of us that are in the neighborhood where we're high school age or above that be responsible for the activity and

the behavior that we're committing and so it does take a you know at the end of the day a law enforcement is necessary. but at the same time the family and the neighborhood also needs to be held accountable and responsible for the behavior. we're allowing to happen in our streets. since monday at least four people have died and five others have been injured in shootings across the city. california attorney general rob bontes says the state is adding a gun violence prevention office within the state department of justice from increasing training public awareness to initiatives to foster increased cooperation between courts and law enforcement the office of gun violence prevention will serve as the hub for best practices and a valuable resource for law enforcement agencies. the attorney general made the announcement at a news conference in san francisco yesterday. he says the new office will examine factors that lead to gun violence calling it a chance to

without talking to your doctor. we are learning more about eight migrants who mysteriously showed up in sacramento last week from texas the group from venezuela arrived with no cash no food, and they told local officials that they flew to sacramento after being notified their ice paperwork had reassigned them to the city. and say got there the migrants

walked more than 20 miles to what they thought was a shelter and it was actually a closed office building. i think the most troubling part is sending them to a shelter that doesn't actually exist. so these men could have been in ending up sleeping outside if good nature of people hadn't helped them to find help. local nonprofits are now stepping in to help the migrants find permanent housing and jobs. it's not clear if this group was sent by the arab texas who has been sending migrants to cities across the country and we're getting rights activists. tell abc 7 news that they are standing by to help any other immigrants who arrive in california. so surprising news from san francisco schools enrollment is higher than expected but the budget is actually down the district says the issue is the budget was adopted based on lower attendance projections. they ended up with about 1,000 more students than they planned for. so now they're hoping to soften the revenue below by relying on

the average daily attendance used by the state to fund schools average daily attendance is how we're ultimately funded and that is the information that we will get in october to look at the average daily attendance or ada and that is how we will receive the funding from the state. despite the higher than expected numbers. overall sf usd enrollment is still down from previous years the district plans to do more outreach to try and lure families back into the public school system. happening today bart's board of directors will be meeting to discuss whether or not to extend the mask mandate. it's currently set to expire on october 1st. however, the board may eventually keep it there for longer. bart's police chief says in just over two years officers issued seven citations. mass can be picked up in those stations for customers who are about to board the train. today's meeting will be the first in-person meeting held at bart's new headquarters on webster street in oakland. new season of abba elementary

francisco mayor. london breed has come out against a ballot measure to create a us oversight committee in the city the committee would oversee the 672 million dollar annual budget allocated for homeless outreach breed tells the chronicle. she thinks the committee would not be effective and instead would create just more bureaucracy. free entities already oversee different parts of the homeless response system. reed says they could all be combined into one committee rather than creating a fourth the supervisor who proposed the

new committee claims despite increasing budgets conditions for the homeless have only worsened. the fda has also authorized the release of more of modernas updated covid booster sean's after reports of shortages across the country. the updated shots were authorized in the past several weeks, but some pharmacies say that they just couldn't keep them in stock. moderna says it's working with the government to keep the doses in stock. federal health officials are advising people to get their boosters as soon as they go in for a flu shot. instagram says it is working on protecting you from unsolicited nude photos in your dms. spokesperson for meta says to the verge that the optional user controls are ingeshe will enable people to control messages that they receive. and for people who are concerned about privacy that it says they will not be able to see the messages that are blocked. meta plans to release more details about the feature in the coming weeks as they get closer to testing.

information from police. we know that the suspect fled the scene after slamming into the apartment complex. you see right behind me here, but moments ago we learned from san jose police that the suspect has since been located and charged with driving under the influence now if you take a look right behind me here, you'll see that crews have just finished boarding up the apartment complex you see behind us and because of this nine people have been displaced and two apartment

units will be red tagged because of the damages left behind. so here's what we know so far this crash happened just after 140 this morning a car drove through an intersection near center road and silverdale avenue hitting a parked car before slamming into an apartment complex. the accident also caused a loose tired to hit an apartment unit along center road causing the glass windows to break and cabinets inside the apartment to fall off. it's foundation. we did talk to one of the
