wear a mask. this comes after a vote last night that will change the threshold for win a mask mandate could return to bart. the bart board of directors approved a resolution on masks that only kicks in if public health officials require indoor masking in their jurisdictions. because no such requirement exists right now, the current masked requirement is set to and on october 1. this means a mask mandate will only come back if a local health officer chooses to reinstate indoor masking served by bart. a mask mandate could come back if the state department of public health, the cdc or tsa imposes another mask mandate. the chief of police says that in two years, officers issued just seven citations for this. after the mandate is lifted on october 2, bart is encouraging

kumasi: there is new information about a story we told you about yesterday. investigators say a van and crashed at 51st and international was involved in a freeway shooting. the man who was hit by gunfire was found dead. officers say information gathered indicated that the shooting happened on 580. the motive is under investigation. no arrests have been made but this is the fifth homicide of the year on an oakland freeway. oakland faith leaders say everyone should feel safe in every neighborhood so they are hosting a cease fire night walk. it is happening along

climate change governor newsom signed off on a bill getting rid of parking mandates near public transit. lena, what is it mean? >> by eliminating these parking requirements near public transit it is making housing cheaper and easier to build. the bill signed into law will prohibit cities and counties from opposing minimum parking requirements on developments that fall within one half mile of public transit. they have called this a landmark ease of legislation because it prioritizes affordable housing while getting rid of parking mandates. this will give property owners

the flexibility to decide how much on-site parking they would like to provide instead of being forced to comply with the mandate from the state. with this bill, the state is prioritizing people in the planet over cars. >> we are making it cheaper and easier to build more housing for your daily destination. this means more housing at lower prices, closer to walkable neighborhoods in public transit. lena: by cutting out this requirement it will reduce housing costs but work towards eliminating emissions from cars. that is why he is calling it a win-win opportunity for the state. kumasi: a new pilot program can help thousands of students get a leg up on transferring to uc. uc officials say thousands of

students with the good gpa that don't meet all of the eligibility requirements, though students could receive a conditional acceptance. they would have to agree any missing or required classes at a community college. they would then get guaranteed admission to one of six campuses or could apply to one of the more popular campuses but would not be guaranteed a spot. reggie: the deadline for free community colleges is approaching. they urge the governor to sign senate bill 893. it would expand existing programs to provide free tuition to san mateo community colleges. t b 8r students first and gives them more opportunities to succeed in education and in life, in their
