moving forward finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. we apologize for the core level of service. we had this morning, although it was an equipment problem. we understand that it inconvenienced many thousands of people in the bay area and did not live up to the standards to which we hold ourselves. tonight bart is as you heard apologizing for major delays that have plagued the system all day long leaving writers stranded in the transbay tube for two hours this morning. and while those people have been rescued issues are still affecting the transit system tonight. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley and i'm on a dates now 10 hours after an electrical problem left passengers stuck in the tube barta still urging riders to find alternate modes of transportation. we know that we haven't provided good service this morning and we

are hoping to diagnose a problem and get things resolved for tomorrow, but for tonight people should respect that we would have a single tracking on one of the two tracks. art suggests riders look into ac transit transbay bus service or ferries to get across the bay this evening and as we wait to find out more about the electrical problem that triggered all the delays in the mess. we are hearing from people who were stuck on that stranded train abc 7 news reporter. ryan curry has the story. a crowded west oakland station friday full of people confused about what is happening with bart on friday morning a train lost power in the transbay tube video from a passenger shows the entire train in pitch black darkness. it was very horrifying and horrible experience for everyone mossiolini was on the train. he says he was there for what like multiple hours initially. they told us there's a technical problem, but we take for more than two hours with no power on it and the old people were screaming because of the oxygen deficiency part says passengers

were taken to west oakland station, and they were able to de-board there. they moved to single track service through the tube after but alini says many on the train we're starting to panic i was scared like it was my first time experience. there's horrifying like things, you know underwater with no oxygen with no plan and no update even the board operator said hey, i don't have anything else to to say to guys even with single track. restored here at west oakland station. this has been the theme pretty much the entire day a large crowd of people unsure about what the schedule actually is. no idea when i can get to work no idea how i can get paid. i live paycheck to paycheck. so that's rough. evan perez was one of the many people at west oakland station upset about how to get into the city. it's like my app never matches what it is up on here and like i

just have i called out. i just called to call my boss right now. so, you know, it's frustrating according to bart a failsafe system shut down a substation. this comes after barden amtrak unveiled a plan to hopefully build a new trans bay tube in the future. press says that can't come soon enough given how the current trans baitube was built in the 1960s. i'm sure a lot of us have to go to work and we pay so much money to use bar and there's constantly problems and delays and things like that. so it's just frustrating in oakland ryan abc 7 news. we're following breaking news out of oakland where police are investigating a deadly shooting one person has died in two

others were injured including a brinks worker and an innocent bystand. i'd be limiting the number of car traffic cars allowed in the area in an effort to increase safety and security for people in that area for visitors as well businesses. everybody. this comes in the wake of five deadly shootings in the city just this week including a shooting at 14th and broadway near city hall on tuesday. there's outrage by some tonight after two former alameda county sheriff's deputies accused of beating a suspect on the run struck plea deals with the san francisco da's office surveillance video captured the incident in a mission district alley in november 2015 abc 7 news i-team reporter melanie woodrow has covered the story since then and has the latest. this surveillance video captured now former alameda county sheriff's deputies luis santa maria and paul weaver striking stanislon petrov more than 40 times the deputies pursued petrov a suspected car thief from the east bay attorney. mike raines represents santa maria commands alternated between get on the ground and

show us your hands. i admit the video. it doesn't it never does petrov had head wounds and fractures in both hands, which he described to me in 2016 and the mechanic by trade. so now i can't use my hands. i can't even text the alameda county sheriff's office fired both deputies for seven years. the case has moved through the criminal justice system at the end of last year. both deputies accepted plea deals according to the san francisco district attorney's office, which says that deputy santa maria's deal includes diversion to a mental health treatment program and a probable misdemeanor conviction that could be expunged if he successfully completes his program deputy weber pleaded guilty last december. to one felony count of assault by a public officer according to the sfda's office if we were avoids getting arrested again that felony charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor and could also potentially be expunged. i was lord when i found out that they had received one was ultimately going to get a misdemeanor and the other mental health diversion and a dismissal. i just really didn't understand

how something like that was appropriate district. attorney brooke. jenkins was appointed by mayor london breed after the recall of former district attorney chase a boudin doesn't just come down to their future employment. it comes down to what's there an appropriate consequence for their actions? and in my view there's been no consequence at all. whatsoever michael, her dad was tetram civil attorney alameda county agreed to pay petroff a 5.5 million dollar civil settlement over the beating. i can't believe it. you know, this was a slam dunk. and any serious district attorney should have gotten a major felony conviction against both officers. these people should never be law enforcement officers again, they should be in prison. frankly abc 7 news was not able to reach former district attorney boudin. we have not yet heard back from deputy weaver's attorney for the it melanie woodruff abc 7 news. another resident who has served cleaning liquid instead of juice at a san mateo senior living facility has died and now his

family is suing abc 7 news reporter. dustin dorsey has the latest details on this ongoing investigation. adria park of san mateo is facing at least three lawsuits involving elder abuse and negligence two different 93 year old residents have died after ingesting dishwashing liquid that was served to them instead of juice, san mateo county supervisor. david cannabis says his former employer atria must be held responsible tragic horrific. i used to work at an atria. not atria in san mateo, but i worked in atria in san mateo county about 15 years ago and to see what is happened. it's disappointing in august san mateo police say three residents were poisoned after ingesting the cleaner trudy maxwell died within days. another resident was hospitalized and peter schroeder died on september 7th. his family's lawsuit filed last week claims that disruption and the dining room led to a picture

of cleaning liquid being left on the counter. it was eventually mistaken as cranberry juice and serve to residence the mayo county district attorney's office is now reviewing the completed investigation by san mateo police, but they are still waiting on the autopsy reports. meanwhile da stephen wagstaff tells me his office will also be looking into atria as a whole following these lawsuits in a separate one. also claiming injuries were caused by negligence due to short staffing my consumer fraud unit. as is also monitoring this and that looks more than just the two people who died but what other things have they had reported there what other incidents have they been conducting themselves inappropriate business like fashion the latest records from the california department of social services confirm. atria park has been investigated at least nine times by state officials since 2017. we reached out to atria park who told us they are working with authorities in the safety and well-being of residents remains a top priority in san mateo, dustin dorsey abc 7 news

berkeley police are appealing for help to identify the person they believe trying to kidnap two children in the past few weeks the most recent incident which tuesday when someone tried to lure a 12 year old boy into a vehicle happened at sacramento and addison streets around 5:30 pm police say the boy was riding a scooter on the sidewalk when a car stopped in front of him a woman tried to convince him to get inside, but the boy managed to escape investigators believe the attempted kidnapping is related. to a similar incident on august 29th involving a 13 year old girl hundreds of students voiced their concerns about climate and coal during a protest in oakland today organized by youth versus apocalypse the rally in march was part of a climate protests taking place around the world much of today's protest a targeted the development of a cold terminal in west oakland organizers worry the coal would negatively affect those living with asthma and other health issues.

oakland's city council banned the storage and handling of coal at any bulk at any boat materials facility in 2016. the developers sued and the band was overturned by a federal judge that was in 2018 developers further argued the city's effort to stop. the deal is denying oakland residents good-paying jobs still ahead a first of its kind in the nation the initial report from the california reparations task force. now, the public is getting the opportunity to hear it and weigh in abc 7 news at 5. we' stocks plunged today sinkingo
