forecast now. it's pretty warm out there this week it is it's gonna be nice temperatures still above average and parts of the bay area as we look at live doppler 7 the fog moving up from the south the central coast where it is, very foggy and setting up along the shoreline and there's dense fog from highway 1 and parts of the north bay. so be aware of that but overnight lows.th ey'th side rightwru 36 degrees. so certainly cold with those longer nights and feeling like fall in the next few days back home. so locally there is fog up to the north and look at sfo here pretty great to start out temperatures. not as warm as they have been it is 59 san francisco 60 in oakland with mid-50 santa clara and looking at the boats here in santa cruz kind of a cool shot 57 is the temperature with temperatures in the low 70s under partly cloudy skies 53 in santa rosa the cool spot with more in napa partly cloudy
6:50 am
elsewhere. it's clear inland, but that fog certainly moving across the bay over into oakland and emeryville 24-hour temperature change with that blanket of low clouds anywhere from three to five degrees milder and as we look at the golden gate bridge, it was clear this time yesterday and by the middle of the afternoon the fog really came back so dropping the temperatures at the coast so areas of dense fog this morning another warm fall day inland and around the bay and then looking at the cooling trend as we get into your monday tuesday, wednesday more pronounced and then by thursday and friday looks like temperatures will warm up a bit pretty active here. it's been a quiet hurricane season in the atlantic. this is tropical storm ian with winds of 50 miles an hour quickly intensifying tonight as it gets closer to cuba and we'll be a category one. you can see 80 miles an hour and then as we get into tuesday moving across western cuba strengthening to a category 3 and then it's in the open waters where it is at least 80 degrees.
6:51 am
so easily strengthening to a category 4 moving along the central part of the gulf so western florida into say, alabama and louisiana those low-lying areas certainly taking a big hit with the storm surge and some heavy rain come tuesday and wednesday back home. it's quiet. it's comfortable in the mid 80s today in the south bay for san jose 82 in sunnyvale and looking along the peninsula. it should be nice middle of the afternoon low to mid 80s with a sea breeze. so taking the the heat away for parts of the peninsula and you felt that yesterday with the sea breeze coming in through the afternoon low 70s today downtown with some sun looking at 90 in

sonoma upper 80s in novato. so we've got a slightly cooler day over on the east bay with temperatures around 75 or so in berkeley, but you head towards in city, it's still warm and fremont in the low 80s the accuweather seven-day forecast low 90s in our inland valleys to the mid-90s today. so it's warm there cooler monday and then tuesday and wednesday. we're in the mid 80s, thursday and friday a slight bump in temperatures, but it should be very pleasant overnight lows will be comfortable and then next weekend certainly looks cool more fall like all right, lisa. thank you. okay, we're taking a look at our power grid the best time of day to charge electric vehicles may not actually be when you think stanford researchers say even they were surprised abc 7 news reporter. zach fuentes spoke with one of the researchers about the future of electric vehicles and why they say the habits we've developed should change. the deadline to ban sales of new gas-powered cars is looming though. the goal is for the band to start in 2035 researchers. say attention has to be paid to the electric grid and the already stressed electric grid as more electric vehicles are adopted they found that if a third of homes in a neighborhood have electric vehicles and they all charge their cars at 11pm
6:53 am
the local grid could become unstable as surprise for us. you know that this daytime charging can can make a significant difference but charging vehicles during the day from work or other shared charging infrastructures could help by 2035. the electric grid will be able to tap into more solar power meaning in the morning and early afternoon. there's additional energy and what happens in those times of the days that you have additional power that you know could be curtailed because there was no use for it but one main problem with that now is the lack of financial incentive electricity rates are cheaper in the evening hours. the authors behind the study say policy makers need to take action to bring on better rates during the day. i also means in that type of charging accessible not everybody has access to a charger in the workplace. there is folks who have small
6:54 am
businesses in and low and middle income communities that may not have a charger that they could use for their business and that would be a date time charger. i reached out to the california energy commission who helped fund the study to find out what work is being done to bring on rates. that wouldn't seize a coordinating to develop and deploy rates programs and technologies that better align ev charging with grid conditions for roger gopal's part. he's encouraged that by the time 2035 rolls around the incentives will be there. i'm very positive zach that we are in a very good trajectory and things are lining up well and the south bay zach fuentes abc 7 news more to come on abc 7 mornings. so just stick with us. we'll be right back. kevin: i've fought wildfires for twenty years. here's the reality we face every day. this is a crisis. we need more firefighters, more equipment, better forest management to prevent wildfires and reduce toxic smoke.
6:55 am
and we need to reduce the tailpipe emissions that are driving changes to our climate. that's why cal fire firefighters, the american lung association, and the california democratic party support prop 30. prevent fires. cut emissions. and cleaner air. yes on 30.
