moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. >> i had no idea how i was going to get to the hospital. i was bleeding like crazy. >> tonight, real stories inside the campus shooting in oakland. all new video from the school halls. these acts of violence affecting us all and our sense of safety but tonight, how to use this wave of emotions to enact effective change. good evening. i am dion lim. dan: i am dan ashley. we have team coverage devoted to finding the solutions for you. our reporter is hearing from community leaders who are making these calls for change. dion: we begin with j.r. stone in the newsroom with all new video from inside the school once those shots rain now. j.r.: so many of those students i talked with say they are still shaken up and as we see these new videos, you can see why. it was a very hectic being kids of all ages.

all new video showing the moments children ran out of oakland bay tech charter school, escorted by police after gunshots rang out at the school complex in east oakland. in the video, law enforcement can be seen in the hallways with their guns drawn in an effort to get the kids out of the schools safely. the police chief giving you details on the investigation. >> this incident is gang-related. j.r.: that she says more than 30 shots were fired and close proximity to the high school also on the campus. six people were hit. two of the victims are still hospitalized life-threatening injuries. >> we believe this is related to ongoing conflicts in our city that has driven violence throughout our city. j.r.: the six people who were shot were not the intended targets. one of those six, jason

arbuckle, a carpenter for the district who was busy working. >> i was working, hanging the display case, and then shots just went off. j.r.: bullets flew in his direction. >> one of those shots grazed me and went in my head and came out the front. under my scalp, bleeding like crazy, blood is everywhere. j.r.: mayor libby schaaf speaking out at a press conference, saying this is a nationwide problem and demanding federal action. the police chief getting more specific on who investigators believe is to blame. >> there were at least two shooters and another accomplice related to this case but they may have been -- there may have been more. j.r.: as bad as the situation was, arbuckle staying optimistic even from his hospital bed. >> no one instead >> certainly

optimistic. there were initial questions over where the shots were fired. the police chief clarifying things on thursday, saying surveillance video shows at least two shooters entering the school at one point. the campus will be closed both friday and saturday. now back to you. dan: thank you very much. with yesterday's school shooting still ringing in the ears of so many in oakland, the two candidates vying to become the next district attorney each got the chance to state their case tonight. pamela price and carrie riley to part in a candidate forum via zoom. both address the rising concern about gun violence across the county. >> there is a certain feeling of lawlessness that many people feel in today's community, particularly in oakland. i think that it is important to have someone who can bring balance and experience, a

balanced experienced approach to leaving the district attorney's office. >> i represent the new leadership that mr. reilly says we need and i have been in this capacity for almost 50 years. dan: this year is the first time in more than 80 years that alameda county will fill a vacancy through an open election. it is the first time ever the county will elect an african-american d.a. our team coverage continues with our abc 7 news reported. dion: he attended a forum where community members had plenty of thoughts on how to combat gun violence. >> it is that night after a shooting that injured six people. for many parents, the threat of gun violence is a constant concern. >> you worry already but hearing that, he panic as a parent. how do you get to them? what happened? you don't know answers and it shakes the community. > parents came out for a

forum thursday night. he says he is tired of political promises. he wants action and accountability. >> we want to see that money being used for where is it going? what is happening? what are the improvements? put out some spreadsheets and data we can read as a public. >> we are tired over all the violence in oakland, california. j.r.: they organize the candidate forums. she went to school in oakland but now as a parent, she wants tighter security. >> having the schools close at a certain time, not meeting parents in unless you call. >> it's not safe. if we can see it is not safe for our kids right now. >> olea wants the school board to see firsthand the problem students and staff face. >> they need to see the school sites or necessities. for students. >> there is something wrong with

the money that is not being spent in the schools and in the city. >> lisa does not have kids in school but she says this type of violence impacts the whole city. she does not support police on campus. she thinks the focus needs to be on updating curriculum and focusing on food insecurity hurting families in east oakland. >> star the school day differently. pay people to come in and start the school day in a way that centers kids, that asks them what is important to you? >> abc 7 news. dion: this is an important story and we will keep you informed about how the victims are doing if the suspects are, as well. you will find the updates on our website, abc7news.com, and through our bay area app. dan: happening now, hurricane ian is tracking towards south carolina and is expected to make landfall near charleston by tomorrow afternoon. dion: there is widespread damage

in florida after the storm barreled into the gulf coast. that storm surge swamped cities along the coast. at least seven people have died and that number is expected to rise. many opted to ride out the storm at home which has kept rescuers busy as theyod ighbhos. some sawhe power nature wipe out everyth >> i literally watched my house disappear with everything in it. right before my eyes. dan: california has sent emergency personnel including firefighters to florida to help with the response. no bay area crews just yet but they are at the ready and may be sent to help. let's check in with sandhya patel, tracking this storm very closely. dion: let's talk about the timeline. sandhya: right now, the outer bands of the hurricane moving onshore as we look at live doppler 7. the center of the storm is approaching. it is 175 miles away from

charleston, south carolina, but you can see the wind flow. the winds are picking up. 25 to 35 mile per hour gusts at this hour. the heavier bands moving in as we take a look at the watches and warnings. they are going up and down the mid atlantic coast. numerous storm reports from the region. a lot of stork flooding dueo sus of rain in florida. it is a category one right now ting closer with winds of 80 miles per hour. expected to make landfall tomorrow afternoon. it will weaken after making landfall across southern california to a depression but they will see quite a bit of rain, up to 12 inches maximum expected in some of those regions. flooding, life-threatening inundation is expected. i will be back with a look at the local forecast, coming right up. dan: you can help people affected by hurricane ian by donating to the red cross. go to redcross.org/abc to donate if you would like to help you it

of sex trafficking, have been rescued in san jose and neighbors were the ones to warn investigators about that suspicious activity. >> all of that led to the discovery of two alleged residential brothels. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo spoke to these neighbors, waiting for action. amanda: residents living here along bassitt street recently found this flyer outside of their san jose homes. a plea to report suspected prostitution to police. it is an alert this neighbor who asked to remain anonymous says only highlighted months of suspicious activity. >> may make changes to the entryways to make it easier to find. we had cars parked across the street. on, all hours of the day and night. amanda: san jose pd confirming this location was one of two alleged residential bottles. units searched by the departments human trafficking force on tuesday. >> they had bullhorns, swat team

, armed police throughout the area. they were announcing tenants and residents to stay in the building until they cleared it. amanda: between the bassitt street location and another on winterberry way, four women were rescued and provided resources. according to sj pd, two men suspected of running the brothels were taken into custody. one was arrested for an unrelated outstanding warrant for a commercial sex trafficking offense. officers took the time to commend residents for their role in keeping their communities safe. >> folks from the neighborhood started calling in as detectives took note of the evidence that they were providing. they began setting up a case that led them to the two separate locations which we believe are linked together. amanda: residents spoke off-camera, pointing to a unit located a few doors from the neighborhood park, describing the area is otherwise safe and quiet. on thursday, though they were able to shut down these two suspected brothels, residents

living center said "our residents will always be our top priority. our hearts remain with the residents affected, families and loved ones." they are working with the department of social services to review the incident they say was an accident. dan: we are hearing from a woman who says she got trampled saturday at the portola festival in san francisco when concertgoers pushed through a barricade. we have seen a number of videos taken at the site showing a throng of people pushing their way into the venue. the woman tells abc 7 news that she was caught right in the middle of it. >> right against the metal barricade and it fell over and then i fell into that and then people were stepping all over me everywhere like dominoes. everyone was tumbling and people were stepping on my hair come on my arm. i was not able to get out. dan: samantha says she got hurt and has a huge bruise on her leg and her arm is all banged up.

on sunday, the promoter called the incident minor and there were no injuries. that is something that has upset samantha. >> still not able to use my arm. i am having to miss out on work. i was really frustrated to read that they commented that there was no injuries or anything like that. dan: we reached out again to the promoter but have not yet heard back. we will keep trying. let's move to gas prices. as you have probably noticed, they are surging once again in california. we are close to breaking the all-time record which was set in june. the state average is now at six dollars 20 one cents, up $.89 from last month. -- $6.21, up $.89 from last month. in san jose, the number is $6.30 per gallon. dion: next week is fleet week. more than one million people are expected to converge on san francisco.

today, the warning was to plan ahead and take public transportation. >> if you have to drive, make sure you don't leave anything valuable in your car. the time to remove those valuables is not when you park because unfortunately, there's a certain element that's going to be looking for that. dion: you also might try picking a preplanned meet up point in case you get separated. events start monday with military band concerts around the city. dan: it is exciting. the weather is our primary concern. it is friday coming up.
