confirmed rescues, and there's likely many more than that. the coast guard says the conditions are making rescues difficult and dangerous in the fort myers area. they're dealing with high water. ah you know, cities that don't look like cities anymore. unstable platforms and buildings , the scale of destruction becoming painfully clear. boats piled up and holds ripped from foundations these before and after images give a sense of the destruction. fort myers beach now resembling a war zone. this pier jetting into the gulf of mexico now gone, and this is what the causeway leading to sanibel island looked like before in now, chunks of it are missing. the only way off the island now by boat or helicopter. and new video showing the power of ian watch as water burst through the door of this building during the height of the storm is here for

airspace over fort myers, allowing for a safe search environment for those hurricane relief teams. rhiannon andrew justin finch in tampa for us all week. thank you. power is slowly coming back on for some people in fort myers, but the mayor says most buildings remain without electricity and running water. the water has receded. um we do have about 80% of the city is without electricity. it's slowly coming back on and about 70% of the city's without water . we're expecting the delivery of the pods with the water and food and ice and the problem was that very, very difficult to live here without air conditioning. i was able to stand in, uh, the window of my condo, looked down toward the river and just watched the water continues. the rise until it hit first street, where the business of most of the businesses are and i felt very helpless. watching our businesses get flooded. sh last night, officials closed one of the

bridges that leads to force myers beach due to structural damage. preparations for ian's next arrival are now taking place on the entire carolina coast. the storm is forecast to make landfall. later this morning in south carolina, possibly as a category one. hurricane myrtle beach and charleston remain in ian's path . and last night, south carolina's governor urging people to prepare doesn't make much difference whether this comes in and hurricane strength or below its storm strength or somewhere on the line because this could be blowing strong winds as google be all over the state at different levels. high tide in charleston is at noon, so we know there's gonna be water a lot of water in charleston at noon. president biden is already approved south carolina's emergency declaration clearing the way for federal assistance. now let's get ian's latest track from accuweather's melissa constand's er. and good morning. ian is on the move and expected to make its second u. s landfall here in south carolina

. as we head through the day it's going to be late friday morning into the middle of the day here, and it's going to be about charleston to myrtle beach somewhere around the georgetown area with it. we do have the risk for tornadoes and some very strong winds. then on top of that, these winds of more than 80 mph in some spots will be pushing seawater towards the coast. that's going to create storm surge, unfortunately from charleston to myrtle beach. more than six ft. possible that can be deadly stating and deadly. unfortunately in the storm's not fiished yet and works northward , even as we go through friday night into the weekend, where it hangs out and brings him heavy rainfall, so as we make it through time here, you can see that heavy rain working into the coast even for the middle of the day, still pushing the water into the north carolina coast to and we'll see these outer bands reaches far north as virginia by friday night, lots of rainfall out there. it does start to pull apart for saturday morning, but we're talking about four plus inches of rain on top of already flooded areas when it comes to the storm surge by the coast.

being held without bond after two migrants were shot and one was killed near el paso, mike and mark sheppard allegedly fired at four migrants at the side of a road late tuesday. a man was killed. a woman was wounded. mike shepherd was awarded at a detention center. he was fired after the shooting . the wife of supreme court justice clarence thomas, has appeared before the january 6th committee behind closed doors. ginny thomas has been under scrutiny for her efforts to help overturn the 2020 election, including urging state lawmakers to reject the results. the committee says thomas told them she still believes the election was stolen. but thomas denies having any involvement with the capital riot. this week's january 6th hearing was postponed because of the hurricane, but as a b cs, jon karl explains, the panel still has a critical decision to make. the single biggest question going forward in the few weeks that they have left to complete their work before the election is whether or not they are going
