oving forward, finding solution. this is abc 7 news. >> this weekend, again, we faced senseless violence in the city of oakland. >> this is oakland's 99th life lost this year. >> it obviously is very tragic. for the community. tragic for the family. gun violence in the city of oakland has plagued young people far more than i've seen in several years. >> another violent weekend in oakland. we'll have an update on that in just a few minutes. thanks for joining us. >> first, oakland police have release this new video showing the moments right before the shooting on the king estate school campus. that video shows the two suspects running up to the school building's front door with firearms in their hands and then you can see the students running away. oakland police chief leron armstrong is asking for the public's help help to identify the two shooting suspects in the

video. two of the six victims are still in the hospital. one school employee and one student. they are expected to be ok. >> now back to the weekend violence in oakland, where a house party on apgar turned deadly. >> two students were kill and two others injured. >> it's hard for the family of 17-year-old jayzee garcia and his brother to deal with he fact that the boys are gone, gunned down and killed at a house party near oakland. they are survived by their mother and four younger siblings. the 13-year-old, 9-year-old, 4-year-old and 3-year-old. they went to celebrate a birthday at an air b&b when several gunmen entered the home and opened fire. now the grief is unbearable. >> we cannot move forward with funerals and seeing their bodies until the investigation is completed.

and knowing the community is here for us. that really helps a lot. >> a vigil is set for 7:00 tonight at nearby longfellow middle school to honor the 17-year-old and 15-year-old boys. in oakland, i'm leslie brink lee, abc 7 news. >> air b&b confirms the fatal shooting took place at one of its rental properties, despite their party ban. melanie woodrow has that part of the story. >> san francisco-based rental platform air b&b confirms that two brothers shot and killed at a house party were at an air b&b property. they wrote, we join the oakland community in condemning this sense lease tragedy. our priority is providing support for those impacted including our host and we're in touch with the oakland police department to support their investigation. air b krand b says the party was unauthorized and thrown without

self-sufficiency. >> for a lot of people who find themselves entangled in gun violence it's not a matter of them being innately criminal, it's what does my life mean to me? what does my future look like? >> for police the struggle goes on. keeping guns away from kids. >> we have to get guns out of the hands of young people. and that is not just a police issue. that is an issue for families. these things start at home. >> in oakland, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. >> now to breaking news coming into the abc 7 newsroom. certainly a grim milestone in oakland. police, we know, are now investigating the city's 100th homicide of the year. this all happened within just the past hour or so, just before 3:30 p.m. this is along kirkham street and 10th in west oakland. oakland police say they received report of a shooting in that area and found a dead victim at thesen. again, 100th homicide of the year. santa clara county's board of supervisors set to take up a new

resolution tomorrow aimed at curbing gun violence. the goal is to get illegal ghost guns like the ones you see here off the streets. the resolution asks the county to fund and staff a special task force including more police and prosecutors. their work would focus on getting guns out of the wrong hands. >> there are people in our county right now who are felons, domestic abuser, dangerously mentally ill individuals, suicidal individuals, who should not have firearms. not only do we believe this but kors have ordered them to not have firearms and nonetheless they continue to be armed. >> a recent study found santa clara county spends over $100 million a year trying to find gun violence. a federal court siding with the city of san jose and will allow a new law requiring gun owners to get liability insurance. the san jose city council areufed a pleasure in january making it the first city in the country to impose such a mandate on gun owners. several lawsuits for filed to

block the ordinance which is now set to take effect january 1. >> san francisco police are increasing the reward offered for information on a murder that has gone unsolved for nearly six years. karan la motte was killed in a shooting at broad street andly mut avenue back in 2016. today police announce the reward sup to $200,000. the shooting took place as a mural was being painted at the location. investigators believe there were several people who witnessed the killing. >> we believe that given the fact that six years have passed, we're hoping that god moved on some of the hearts of people who witnessed this thing and maybe they would feel free to come forward and speak us to. >> la motte was one of two people shot during that incident. the other perp suffered minor injuries. >> the brother of san francisco mayor landon breed appeared in san francisco court trying to get his sentence for

manslaughter reduced. napoleon brown has served 20 years of his 44-year prison sentence for robbing a restaurant and pushing the getaway car driver out of the car and into traffic on the golden gate bridge. she was killed. today in court the district attorney's office said they will oppose him getting out of prison. brown's defense attorney said he will file a motion to remove the d.a. from the case saying brook jenkins is trying to prove she's independent from the mayor who appointed her. the next hearing is in december. >> the oakland fired is investigating another fire on 580 as possible arson. abc 7 news caught the fire on camera shortly after it started just before noontime. that was burning along eastbound 5 0 near the 35th avenue area. it's the latest fire in the area in the last two weeks. much more to come including the search for a possible serial killer on the loose here in northern california. and inflation and now job cuts on the horizon.

>> morgan norwood has the details and the he ward offered to help find the killer. >> five murders, mounting fear and a frantic search for possible serial killer or killers. stockton police say five recent deaths are part of a killing spree. >> at this time we don't know if it's a person, two or three. we just don't know. >> since july, police say five men between the ages of 21 and 54 have been gunned down on the streets of stockton. according to police they each happened under the cover of darkness. the victims ambushed but no material things were taken. only their lives. police say all five cases are earmarked by specific evidence picked up at the crime scenes but not revealing what the evidence. is just saying the killer has a pattern and saying none of the incidents were drug or gang related. but they did release this image in hopes the public can identify the person of interest. he's stall with a slender build. the picture was taken near two

of the crime scenes. 54-year-old lorenzo lopez was one of five killed. he was a musician who often lyrically illustrated the dangers of gun violence. his heart broken brother said lorenzo was homeless but was on the cusp of breakthrough and putting his life back together. he spoke to us. >> it's hard to process that this happened. we've been like twins since we were kid. >> then there's 35-year-old paul alexander, believed to be the first one killed. his family said he was a good boy who grew into a good man with a big heart. 80-year-old eleanor lives in the community where he was gunned down. police are warning not to walk alone at night. >> there's more focus on it. i'll have to be more careful. >> authoritying are offer an $85,000 reward for information leading to the killer, also asking residents to look at their own cameras for anything that might help in the investigation. morgan norwood, abc news, los

angeles. >> closing statements now under way in the christian smart murder trial in salinas. paul flores is accused of killing smart back in 1996 when they were students at cal poly san luis obispo. their fates are up to two juries, one for paul flores and one for ruben flores. the trial was moved to salinas over concerns the two might not get a fair trial in san luis obispo. elizabeth holmes was granted a limited hearing on efforts to get a new trial. the hearing is set for october 17, the day holmes was originally scheduled tore sentenced. the hearing will determine if the government engaged in misconduct with ex-tharanos lab director's examination during elizabeth holmes' trial. this means holmes' sentencing will be pushed to a later date possibly between november and january. >> tech companies after all
