attempted carjacking at a popular shopping plaza. friday i reported on the suspects that fired at least 10 shots at a blue honda. the plaza includes a big box store, a pet store and a daycare. after our story aired a woman that heard the gunshots took this video showing to individuals running down the street. the driver of the blue honda was not hurt. there have been no arrests. another rape has been reported on stanford's campus. the sexual assault happened friday afternoon inside a university building. the victim said she was in an office when a man dragged her into the basement and raped her. in august a second woman reported she was grabbed in a parking lot and taken to a bathroom and raped. stanford says officers increased patrols in the area following

that report. the last of four vigils were held for the merced family that was kidnapped and killed. tonight we are hearing from their extended family members. they are struggling with how to deal with the loss of an eight month old little girl, her parents and her uncle. j.r. stone has been following the story and brings us these details. >> it is heartbreaking to see them. my cousins were building this. they were excited to create this american dream. reporter: for the first time, relatives of the family that was kidnapped and killed last week are back where the kidnapping originally took place. at the trucking company that their family owns. they went inside the trailer on sunday and unexpectedly found the eight month old victim. >> we walked in and saw her

little shoe on the floor. >> this was our little baby. babies are off-limits. the baby was off-limits. coming here brings so much anger. reporter: the bodies of the baby, her parents and her uncle were found last wednesday in an almond orchard. sunday night marked the fourth and final vigil, one for each of the victims. >> my cousin that was here with his family will always be remembered as our quirky little cousin. his favorite holiday was thanksgiving. i was just visiting him about a week before he was kidnapped. and murdered. we were planning on our next thanksgiving. reporter: sadly, that will not happen. the community reaction has been

amazing but they are still struggling. >> it has been a constant cycle of disbelief, pain, anger, and grief. i fall asleep and wake in the middle of the night with nightmares of what happened. reporter: j.r. stone, abc7news. dion: the alleged kidnapper has been arrested on four counts of murder. deputies say he tried killing himself before being taken into custody. his brother has also been arrested and is accused of criminal conspiracy, accessory and destroying evidence. some residents at a flooded high-rise in san francisco are suing the owner of the building. lawyers for a group of tenants say they have filed a lawsuit. they say the real estate company caused and mishandled massive water leaks. we have been covering this for

months. 400 residents were forced out of the apartment building in june. the building will be uninhabitable until next year. in the ease bay, police -- in the east bay, police broke up at least two sideshows. at least 50 vehicles were on the scene. police were in the area when the second sideshow started at international. when officers rushed to stop it, the crowd threw bottles and rocks. in the south bay, san jose police are looking for the driver involved in a deadly hit and run crash. a homeless man was killed this morning in the area of center and story roads while riding his bike. two cars hit the victim. one driver stopped. the other took off.

the bicyclist is the 52nd person to die in a traffic crash in the city this year. the driver of the vehicle that stopped is cooperating. a rare move caused disappointment. crowds that gathered to see the blue angels in san francisco today so i'll just guy. the blue angels performed friday and saturday in partially cloudy conditions. fog and clouds forced them to cancel today's air show. the next performance will be next october. as part of fleet week, people visited ships docked at the port of san francisco and got a glimpse of the day to day lives of sailors. 148 fallen firefighters were honored today at a national fire fighters memorial service in maryland. [bellringing]

the bells tolled for each firefighter that died in the line of duty. thousands came to pay their respects at the memorial. this year a firefighter from san francisco was among the fallen. christopher died last year. the names of the fallen are inscribed on a bronze plaque to honor their sacrifice. much more to come including solidarity with iranian protesters. we have seen the demonstrations but this is really making a statement. we will take a closer look at a home in san francisco looking to send a message. a little later, owners of the new i 14 are reporting an interesting problem. what is causing the device to accidentally dial 911. spencer: fog and low clouds will hang around overnight and we may have some drizzle.

dion: we have some sad news tonight from a san jose mom who displayed a halloween display to honor her terminally ill son. pumpkins blanket the front yard. we first introduced you to the mom and her son in 2018. now 27, kristopher purcell -- suffers from cerebral palsy. this afternoon he took a turn for the worse and is now in the icu. his prognosis does not look good says doctors. this weekend cries to free iran are growing louder around the globe and in the bay area. protesters are calling for basic human rights and freedom following the death of mahsa amini.

cornell barnard shows us the community and how they are coming together in san francisco. reporter: it is a rallying cry now getting louder. hundreds of people gathered at san francisco civic center to support the people of iran. >> we are here to say no to islamic republic. >> what is your name? >> mahsa amini. reporter: many held pictures of a kurdish woman, mahsa amini who died and custody of the so-called morality police accused of wearing her hijab incorrectly. >> she was our cousin, she was our daughter and it could have happened to any one of the 40 million women that live in iran. >> free iran! reporter: elected officials

iranian protesters. you can see it reads -- women, life, freedom. the exterior is painted and the colors of the iranian flag. protests broke out after the death of 22-year-old mahsa amini who died while being detained for allegedly breaking hijab ru les. we spoke with an iranian woman who stopped to take pictures. >> i'm really glad that people are bringing awareness to what is going on and iran -- in iran currently. dion: the owner told me he cried when he saw the completed paint job. the home is near the marina neighborhood. we did not get to experience the thrill of the blue angels today. sleep week reminds me of the time i got to experience the highflying adventure from the cockpit. >> we are going up. here we go. dion: [screaming]

do you recognize that scream, spencer? spencer: we often hear it in the newsroom. dion: this is a shout out to our affiliate in kansas city where i work back in the day in 2008 where i had the honor of flying with the thunderbirds. spencer: how did it feel? dion: so much pressure and you kinda don't think it is real. when i landed, i threw up everywhere. [laughter] spencer: you were a braver person than i. dion: it was a great life experience. spencer: we have some great weather. we did not get to see the blue angels but we have lovely conditions right now. the winds have died out just a bit. light winds across the bay area.
