area. moving forward, finds solutions. this is abc7 news. >> why is he choosing to do this? why is he telling people going out there and not knowing that people he is doing that to is leaving behind families. >> a family still grieving more than a year later. a father killed in a murder linked to a serial killer on the loose. ama: the first victim is a father who left behind children including a daughter. dan: the deadly shooting happened last april in oakland before dawn. ama: j.r. stone joins us live interest the news room. reporter: i spoke with one of the victim's daughters a year later and she is still broken up over what happened. she was in tiers when i spoke -- tears but managed to garner to strength to talk took into

account shooting and her dad. >> what it seemed like is my dad tried defending himself from the serial killer. reporter: she is talking aboutthe night her dad was killed in oakland last year. a murder that is linked to five additional murders in stockton and being investigated as the work of a possible serial killer. her dad is one of five murder victims who are hispanic. >> finding out that a serial killer killed my dad, the memories came back and emotionally i'm not over it. ashley: she says her dad did not have a permanent home when he was killed but he would clean cars and do other odd jobs to make money. she said he was likely staying in his car in this area at the time of the attack. >> we know he tried defending himself because the day of his funeral we saw on his knuckles that it looked like he had

defended himself. and it looked like he was bruised up from his knuckles. reporter: oakland police have not given specifics on what happened to vasquez or if he did in fact try to defend himself but she says detectives told her h he was shot multiple time. sadly the last time she saw her father was at her middle school graduation. she will soon graduate high school with just a me memory ofe joy he once brought her. he hugged me really tight and said he loved me. reporter: she is confused and upset over what happened to her father and other victims out there. >> why is he choosing to do this? why is he killing people going out there and not knowing that the people he is doing that to is leave behind families, sons, daughters, a wife. it is just not fair.

reporter: oakland police tell me tonight as of late last week there were no new updates in vasquez's case. she said she is upset her family found out about the serial killer link here through social media and not the police department. dan? ama? back to you. dan: thanks very much. charges are officially fired tonight against primary suspect in the kidnapping and murder of a family in merced. tonight relatives are sharing their anger and grief as they push for justice. >> part of me doesn't want to call this person a human. i think this is not a human being. this is evil. reporter: dozens of family members and supporters gathered at the court house in merced monday filled with grief. jesus delgado made his court appearance over video. the judge read his charges.

>> count one. reporter: hours earlier, prosecutors charged the 48-year-old with four counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances along with arson and possession of a firearm by a felon. mandy is a family member of the victims and said seeing delgado in the courtroom was painful. >> just the demeanor. still with me ■asifhedidn'tdo anything wrong and who expects to lose four lives? as we process our green bay, it is hard enough to -- grief, it is hard enough to lose one person. reporter: he abducted the four victims from their business friday. delgado was arrested on tuesday and wednesday the search for family came to a tragic end. the bodies of the 8-month-old, her parents and her uncle were found in an orchard.

deputies say delgado tried to take his own life before he was take into custody. his brother alberto is accused of helping with the crimes. he was arrested for accessory and destroying evidence. he has been arrested but not charged. today the victim's loved ones say they will continue to fight for justice. >> we understand this can be exkreushtingly painfully slow. but we will support law enforcement, the system, the way it needs to be done so we can make sure that justice truly served. dan: brittany jacob reporting. he is expected to be back in court wednesday. chahis brother could appear in court tomorrow.
