>> is just common sense to know how dangerous that job would be on so many levels. >> tonight a bay area stunned by a truly gruesome death of a man trimming trees. ama: it's a debt that's hard to imagine. first responder say they were called out to a stretch of road just before 1 p.m.. that is just up a road. >> tonight amanda spoke with neighbors who are sharing their shock. reporter: neighbor say it is typical to see tree trimming activity across the city. many streets, including here are lined with towering trees. tragedy struck tuesday.

and employee of a tree company died. the worker was pulled into a trooper during treat -- tree trimming operations. >> we all feel sick inside. we are really sad. we are trying to imagine what the poor families and the fellow workers are feeling. it's just a lot. we just feel terrible. reporter: the company did not release a statement. longtime resident lisa mitchell explained the community is quite familiar with the company. >> we see a lot of their truck so i could only imagine what they are feeling because i'm sure they treat their employees like family. it's just awful. reporter: when police arrived they found the man dead from his injuries sustained in that incident. neighbors were previously learned about tree trimming

operations in the area but never imagined it would lead to a deadly incident. >> you don't really see any activity. when i came home around 2:30 p.m., the street was completely blocked off. we thought maybe something happened when bar neighbors. reporter: residents of on peggy lane say they know how dangerous the job can be on so many levels. tuesday's tragedy, just one example. >> you hear about the possibility of horrific things happening. you don't really know that they can. today was clearly proof that they can. >> tonight we are learning about the young men killed in the weekend shooting at uc berkeley campus. 29-year-old studying to live a life committed to his faith. >> j.r. stone has more about the man and how his death his inspiring calls for change. reporter: the 29-year-olds who

went by eli was killed in last saturday's early morning burglary shooting. family and friends say he was studying ministry at the pacific school of religion, involved in the master of divinity program. >> he was a mentor in the simoni and -- samoan community. my thoughts are with the family that has been ripped apart by the census active violence. reporter: he was one of four people shot when a fight or cow. he was the only person killed. some one who was very active, tuesday night numerous people called into the berkeley city council meeting upset over what they say is just the latest recent case of violence near the uc berkeley campus. >> students are still walking to class where bloodstains are on the sidewalk. what immediate action should be

done? when are you increasing officers? >> we cannot wait until another person is murdered. >> the bass shooting was unacceptable. it is a serious wake-up call. the streets of berkeley are not safe. >> police chief jennifer lewis is the department is doing what they can to solve this recent killing but there are challenges. >> we don't have a lot of officers right now. we are at a historic low. >> the city manager and chief say they are doing with they can to fill officer positions. as for those who knew and loved him, they are planning to remember him at a vigil on thursday night. no arrests have been made in this case. at the city council meeting, the police chief would only say they have an excellent detective unit that was out at the scene of the crime. they are actively investigating the case.

j.r. stone, abc7news. >> new details. a driver has been arrested in connection with the crash involving three young students walking home from school. the driver is facing several charges including one count of vehicular manslaughter. one of the three young victims was taken off life support last month. the two of the 12 euros are still recovering from their injuries. the driver was also hospitalized at the crash. >> new details tonight. police pulled over a driver near ainslie park this morning, just before 2:30. officers found items typically used for meth manufacturing in the car so they arrested the driver. please link the items to an apartment. officers searched it and found a drug lab inside. the investigation is ongoing. residents of a luxury apartment high-rise in san francisco are out of their homes tonight

because of flooding in their building. it appears to be intentional. you see the video showing water gushing through the high-rise, early this morning. the water was up to four feet in some areas. residents say there was a delay in the alarm. one man says he was woken up to it by his dog. >> just like a fight or flight reaction. my dog was continuously barking so i went to the bathroom and heard a generator noise. there was water falling from the ceiling. this is something serious and i went outside. i saw water puddles on the floor. >> firefighters arrived on scene . they blew someone intentionally flooded the building. management sent a statement saying the impacted residents are safely relocated while they make repairs. >> we will move now to your

until he hit-and-run investigations all in the past we weeks in the bay area. this week the san jose police department said is investigating its 52nd deadly traffic crash of 2022. >> medical experts are recommending children a and older be screened for anxiety. they published a guideline in the journal today. according to the cdc nearly 6 million children were diagnosed with anxiety between 2016 and 2019. the task for said screening should help primary care doctors identify conditions early on, even if children are not showing symptoms. >> halloween is just a few weeks away and folks in this table header gearing up for one of their busiest times of the year. tim johns explains this year's celebration will be a bit different for those in the past. >> it's that time of year again. halloween is back in the castro. >> we all know gay people love to dress up. >> for the first time the 2022

celebration will be different than years past. on the sunday before halloween, the castro station is holding a halloween event to complement the neighborhood's normal festivities. it will include everything from costume parties to recruiting two photo opportunities for kids. >> you can have halloween without it. >> he says it's important for the neighborhood to put on a fun and safe event for everyone, especially given that holidays asked in the area. >> in years past, it's been filled with hundreds and thousands of people. that cause problems. some problems included incidents of stabbing, shooting, and violence. >> when the event outgrows the venue you're going to run into problems. >> the new event will be a way to support local businesses.
