strikes are shorelines. the clock is ticking because their coastal modeling shows significant flood damages could begin as early as 2030 with no action. that is why the city is now working with the u.s. army corps of engineers to map out what they are calling an adaptation strategy through 2100, and it will cover fisherman's wharf to the hunters point shipyard. the goal is to find the best approach to reduce flood risks from sea level rise to extreme stores. it will allow investment for the city's waterfront. any goal should also strengthen the waterfront against current earthquake risks. part of this plan lastht includes community involvement throughout the process. >> will be going from here to a narrow down strategy, and also an adaptation plan and hearing

tree expert company that was trimming when one of the workers was pulled into a wood chipper and killed. neighbors tell abc 7 news they've been notified about tree trimming work, but never imagined it would lead to a deadly accident. >> we all feel sick and sad and we are really sad. we are trying to imagine what these families are feeling, and it is just a lot. we feel terrible. >> they are investigating the death. we reached out for a statement, but they have not responded. >> we are learning about a young man killed in a weekend shooting at uc berkeley. he was one of four people shot after a fight broke out and he is the only person who died. he had ties to a samoan community and was studying ministry at the school of religion.

intensified, president zelenskyy asked for more air defense systems. he spoke to leaders at a virtual g7 meeting. there has been a growing concern around the world that putin may use nuclear weapons if something -- that is something president biden warned of. in an interview with cnn, he does not believe boot will go that far. >> the whole point i was making was just a horrible outcome. not because anyone intends to turn it into a world war anything, but once you use a nuclear weapon, the mistakes that are made, the miscalculations, who knows what will happen. >> meanwhile, nato says the nuclear repairs exercises expected next week. they will use aircraft without weapons to practice deterring nuclear threats. pope francis is condemning the bombings ukraine, saying his part is with those people. >> the 49ers game.

>> thank you. a new job approval has fallen for san francisco's leaders. people from media partners in san francisco shows numbers especially bad for mayor london breed. they are discussing. thank you for being with us. >> good morning. good to see you. >> what is the overall tone of the finding that you all have discovered. >> the tone is very negative. toward city leaders, towards the mayor, towards our supervisors, voters are very fed up with the problems that we know well. crime and homelessness in a particular high cost or lack of housing, and voters are very unhappy about that. they are blaming that on city leaders, and you can see the decline in approval even from the polls this past spring. that disapproval is really getting even more intense. >> tell us about the poll numbers for our current district

attorney brooke jenkins. she will be on this ballot. >> brooke jenkins is the one politician who scored a favorable rating. voters are pretty open and positive towards her. she's a little less well known. they may be willing to give her a break. for law and order type policies, she has pursued them compared to her predecessor. that is certainly very popular at the moment, so she is handling leading raced of district attorney, but there is a lot of undecided voting still. >> what about other city leaders. what do you think those numbers are telling us? >> well, the numbers are very weak. they declined another 30%. 20% net disapproval rating, and only 36% approve with only 34%

approving. that is worse in the spring, and i think it really is a challenge to the mayor and especially to the court of supervisors that score even worse. that is a gauntlet for them that they need to show that they are doing a better job helping cities problems. >> voters lose faith in the home with solution. the homeless crisis with fentanyl killing people every day is front and center with voters, so they are blaming city leaders. >> very much. i think people are very frustrated. it is been going on for long time, there is a reception that we have a lot of taxes paid to address these problems, and not a lot of progress apparent. they are holding their government officials accountable. >> what about downtown. they are recovering. you have some numbers on that.

>> the downtown recovery is a huge concern. we had a story recently indicating that commercial real estate brokers are looking at gigantic drops in value of their properties, and people really are not coming back to downtown, so, people express a high level of concern about that, and the state's economy, and about the future of downtown. the city is still somewhat split on whether tech workers in the industry are a good thing, or whether the city needs to govern by its economy instead. >> there are a lot of things that this poll revealed, but it also revealed that people are still happy with san francisco living here, and they really love the city and things are great. parks and lifestyle. what did you find? >> so, certainly, food and going body, a high percentage, close to 90%, the court to eat, four

already have your balance at home, including san jose. mayoral candidates took part in a forum picking place in the city. >> this is exciting, being mayor of san jose to complete work that is so desperately needed in our city. i want to make san jose the safest big city as it was when i served on the council. >> the league of women voters held a virtual forum for the candidates. chavez is a sitting county supervisor. her poem is on city council. he is going from work and ability at city hall and says he will stake his own paycheck on it >> at the end of each year, our pay raise for elected official should be tied to moving the needle. i think if we had a level of transparency, you would see us fail faster and acknowledge many of our policies are not working well. >> both candidates say they will

boulevard in whittle avenue. the driver was taken to a hospital. their condition is unknown. what led up to the crash is under investigation. >> abc7news is committed to building a better bay area by focusing on climate and environment. the city of san francisco will conduct a study on rising sea levels and how it can prepare for years to come. abc7news were order lena holland is live in san francisco with the hand. >> the shoreline can rise as much as seven feet. with no action, they say that significant damage could happen as early as 2030. no action. that is what the city's proactive approach comes in. they are working with the army corps of engineers this year to handle a strategy from 2100. it will handle an area from fisherman's wharf to hunters point shipyard. it helps possible strategies meant to reduce flood risks from sealevel rise. also storms.

one strategy could involve raising the shoreline such as on terracing on the east and west side to make room for landscape promenades rather than building a levee to repel water. there are more extreme strategies, including relocating or adapting some buildings and jobs. here's is what the port of san francisco president had to say. >> this is a massive undertaking, and what i really like is we are on the offense. we are out front on this, we are not waiting until something happens. i had an opportunity with the vice president and director forbes to go to new orleans after what happened down there, when they had the flooding, and it was billions of dollars then, and the things they had to do, and to know we are out front, i am really impressed. >> the army corps is now
