♪ announcer: building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc7 news. >> the suspect's terror in our community has come to an end. >> the pursuit is over according to police. a man was arrested, caught just in time because they think he was about to kill again. good evening. dion: you are watching abc seven news at 11:00. that serial killer investigation captured national attention, as police connected case t the same gun. he was a stockton resident taken into custody this morning. we have been following this case and tells us what police found

when they made the arrest. reporter: they say this is the man they have been looking for in their serial killer investigation. >> he was arrested for homicide. reporter: wesley brownlee was arrested, six fatal shootings. stockton police chief believes he was preparing to kill again. >> he was on a mission to kill. he was out hunting. as officers made contact with him, he was wearing dark clothing and had a mask around his neck. he was armed with a firearm when he was taken into custody. we are sure we stopped another killing. reporter: stockton police state ballistics test connectivity to all seven shootings, five after july 8. the chief says tips up to determine where he lived. he was a stockton resident who lives close to one of the crime

scenes. >> we maintained eyes until he became mobile. once he became mobile is when we started to continue to follow him. even though there were no words we can say to bring back the lost loved ones from the police that we could do is do our part to bring justice. and here we are today. reporter: officials are trying to determine the gun with him is the same gun used in the other shootings. they say he has a criminal past, but did not elaborate. they still do not have a motive. it is up to the san joaquin district attorneys office to file the charges. >> my deputy district attorney's are reviewing the evidence as we speak and working actively in partnership with the investigation to determine the charges that we will proceed on. reporter: he will be arraigned on tuesday.

the district attorney's office says they will announce the charges after the arraignment. dion: we first sent out the push alert about this breaking through the abc7news app just before 3:30 p.m. this afternoon. it is one way to stay on top of stories when they come into the newsroom. be sure to enable push alerts. moving on to the north bay, an airplane crashed at the airport and wound up upside down. take a look. emergency pers the scene. the pilot was outside the aircraft. he says he was coming in for landing when there was a gust of wind. he tried to get on course and the plane bounced. he turned the plane and it struck the building. he was able to use his safety equipment and walked away uninjured. an east bay man is speaking out for the first time after being carjacked at gunpoint while driving for uber, a story and video you only see here.

reporter: it started out like any other night, driving uber. he picked up two passengers around 8:00. >> [indiscernible] >> when they arrived in east oakland, the men did not exit the vehicle right away. after they asked where he was from, and he answered, they had another request. >> [indiscernible] i am on my head, you know? they said lay on the ground. they took my car keys and drove away. reporter: we reached out to uber who sent us a statement indicating they provide him with support. it was only paying for car insurance deductible for stolen car. he says he was attacked because of his race and is telling his story for one purpose. >> i want so other victims will

not be victims in coming days. reporter: he says he has not been able to work or go out in public. the trauma is just overwhelming. >> it was very stressful. dion: oakland please tell me the investigation into this case is ongoing and so far no word on any arrests. demonstrators gathered in san francisco's union square to show solidarity and support for the people of iran today. as the antigovernment protests enter the fifth week, the crackdown by security forces continues. today's event was organized for the bay area iranian-american immunity. ♪ [chanting] dion: amnesty international estimates at least 144 iranians have been killed and thousands injured or arrested. protests were sparked by the death of a 22-year-old for allegedly violating hijab rules.

another debate over historic monuments. partners have been getting feedback from the community, after some statues were destroyed during the black lives matter protests. >> many of the memorials in our collection do not reflect the diversity of san francisco, intentionally erase stories and reinforce inequities in race, gender, and culture. dion: they are looking at history and values that each statue holds. this will determine which statues stay up or get taken down. the city has over 4000 monuments , and 98 have raised concern. the next session will be november 15. future firefighters were training today to celebrate fire prevention week good take a look. -- week. take a look. >> [indiscernible] dion: how precious is that?

mayor declared a state of emergency last december in response to the drug overdose crisis. advocates say closing it now could be a deadly decision. here is our reporter. reporter: the tenderloin center is a place connecting drug users to services like housing and jobs. it is also a place people go to use drugs. [sirens] somebody is there ready to reverse an overdose. it is run by a nonprofit. gary mccoy is the vice president of policy and public affairs. >> we are on hand to provide not only narcan distribution but to make sure folks do not die from an overdose. reporter: he says there are concerns about what will happen when the service gets cut off in december. >> there are between 300, 400, 500 people accessing visits

to the tenderloin center. reporter: the city is planning to replace the center with what they call wellness hubs, offering similar services, but it is taking time. >> the concern for us is where are they going to go? will they go back into isolation? reporter: it is frustrating, is gina mcdonald, cofounders against drug addiction and death. >> there will be a gap. we are always in a gap here. no matter which way you turn, there are shortages, no beds. reporter: governor newsom vetoed a bill in august that would have paid the way for san francisco to legally -- paved the way for san francisco to legally set up safe injection sites. now the city attorney is trying to work through the legal barriers. >> we would have had to free her hand if governor newsom had
