announcer: building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. >> we stop another killing. >> a suspected killer in stockton, arrested. law enforcement give details. i am zach fuentes in for liz kreutz. we will get to that and other top stories in a moment. let's get to meteorologist lisa argen. lisa: a good deal of low clouds and fog. not as much drizzle. showers and thunderstorms have inundated southern california while there is a system offshore that is bringing a lot of low clouds our way. it will be clear and slow. partly cloudy skies throughout the day.

we are starting out milder. 62 in fremont. oakland, good morning. 63 for you. we have the coolest numbers, in the upper 50's in santa rosa. antioch at 54. five degrees warmer than yesterday at this time due to the blanket of clouds. as we go through the morning hours, don't expect to see a lot of sun. low to mid 60's by noon time. as we get into the afternoon, only partial clearing, mainly in our inland valleys. low 70's in our warmest locations. we are on track for a warming trend. we will talk about what that ensues for the rest of the bay area when we talk more for weather in a couple of minutes. -- full weather in a couple of minutes. zach: a manhunt in stockton has come to an end. the suspect has been taken into custody and is expected to appear in court on tuesday. this captured national attention as police linked case after case to the same gun. we have more on what police found when they made the arrest.

>> stockton police say this is the man they have been looking for in their serial killer investigation. >> arrested was wesley browning, 43, for homicide. >> wesley brownlee was arrested for homicide. he is the rhyme suspect in seven shootings, six fatal, including one in oakland. stanley mcfadden believes brownlee was preparing to kill again. >> he was out hunting, as officers made contact with him. he was wearing dark clothing and had a mask around his neck. he was also armed with a firearm he was taken into custody. we are sure we stop another killer. >> ballistics tests linked the suspect to all seven shootings. five took place july 8. chief mcfadden says tips help determine where brownlee lived. he is a stockton resident who

lives close to one of the crime scenes. >> we maintained eyes on that residence until he became mobile. once he became mobile, we followed him until we cut him off and identified he was posing a threat. >> released that we could do is do our part to help bring -- the least that we could do is do our part to help bring justice. >> officials are trying to determine if the gun they found when brownlee was arrested is the same gun from the other shootings. they still don't have a motive in the case. it is now up to the san joaquin district attorney's office to file the appropriate charges. >> district attorneys who have been here all night are reviewing the evidence as we speak. they are working in partnership with the investigation to determine the charges. >> brownlee will be arraigned on

tuesday. the san joaquin district attorney's office says after the arraignment, they will announce the charges. zach: we first sent out a push alert about this breaking news to the abc 7 news app yesterday afternoon. it is one way to stay on top of stores as they come into our newsroom. when you download it, enable push alerts. in the north bay, the pilot of a plane that crashed at the petaluma airport walked away unhurt. the plane wound up upside down when emergency crews arrived. the pilot was standing outside of the aircraft. he says it was coming in for landing -- he was coming in for landing when a gust blew it off course. he turned around and hit a building. no one else was hurt. we are hearing from an east bay man who was carjacked at gunpoint while driving for uber. we have the story and video you will only see on seven. >> the night of saturday, october 1 started off like any other night for a man driving and uber.

>> it wasn't too far. >> when they arrived at their destination in east oakland, something seemed off when the men did not exit the vehicle. he says after they asked where he was from and he answered nepal, they had another request. >> they pulled a gun on my head and said lay on the ground. they took my car keys and drove away. >> we reached out to her who sent us a statement that said they provided him with support. this included paying the car insurance deductible for his stolen car. he believes he was attacked because of his race and is telling his story for one purpose. >> -- >> he has not been able to work since the incident or go out in public alone. the drama is too overwhelming. >> it was very stressful.

zach: oakland police tell abc 7 news the investigation into the case is ongoing and no word on any arrests. demonstrators gathered in san francisco's union square to show solidarity and support for the people of iran as the antigovernment protests there injured their fifth week. -- entered their fifth week. >> [speaking non-english language] zach: amnesty international estimates at least 144 iranians have been killed and thousands more have been injured or arrested. the protests were sparked by the death of a 22-year-old for allegedly violating his job rules -- hijab rules. city partners have held meetings every month to gain community feedback after a number of

statues were destroyed during the black lives matter protests. >> many of the monuments and memorials do not reflect the diversity of san francisco and intentionally erase stories of committees of color. -- communities of color. zach: other affiliates are looking at the history and values that each statue holds. this will determine which ones stay up or get taken down. the city has more than 4000 monuments and 98 of them have raised concern. future firefighters took a training lesson to celebrate fire prevention week. take a look here. just adorable. firefighters were out, showing kids how fire equipment works. this was during the fire prevention week open house with the sonoma county fire district and other safety partners. you can find more information on fire prevention tips and

zach: there are worries over the looming closure of a makeshift safe injection site in san francisco's tenderloin district. the tenderloin district opened in response to the drug overdose crisis. advocates say closing it now could be a deadly decision. here is tara campbell. >> the tenderloin center is a place connecting drug users to services like housing and jobs. it's also a place where people go to use drugs, with somebody there, ready to reverse an overdose. it is run by the nonprofit health right 360. gary mccoy is the vp of policy and public affairs. >> we are there to ensure folks do not die from an overdose. >> mccoy says there are concerns

about what will happen when this service gets cut off in december. >> there are, you know, between 300 and 400, upwards of 500, depending on the day and time of month, of people that are accessing, having visits to the tenderloin center. >> the city plans to replace it with a handful of wellness hubs, offering similar services. it is taking time. >> the concern for us is where are they going to go? are they going to go back into isolation? >> it is frustration -- frustrating says gina mcdonald. >> there is going to be a gap. it is like we are always in a gap here. no matter which way you turn, there are staff shortages, no beds. >> governor gavin newsom vetoed a bill in august that would have paved the way for san francisco

to legally set up safe injection sites. and supervisor matt dorsey says the city attorney is now trying to work through the legal barriers. >> i think we would have a freer hand had governor newsom signed the legislation that was sponsored by state senator scott weiner rate he didn't. -- weiner. he didn't. but i am told there is room to move forward. >> how quickly they move forward is up in the air. san francisco's department of us the following statement, reading in part, while we continue to work through the legal issues, our goal is to replicate the life-saving successes of the dlc and anticipate that wellness hubs will include on-site drug use and have measures in place to prevent overdoses. in the meantime, those with loved ones struggling on the streets, are pleading for 24/7 on-demand treatment. >> in a city like this, with

this much human suffering, there needs to be a better way. >> tara campbell, abc 7 news. zach: election day is just over three weeks away. voters will be deciding the fate of flavored tobacco products in california. californians passed a ban on menthol and vaping jews. the law never took effect. a campaign gathered enough signatures to put the issue to the voters. the voters will decide on the november 8 ballot weather to toss out the law or keep it. we will be voting on seven statewide propositions. we have a published explanation for each one on the abc 7 bay area streaming app. that is available for your roku, apple tv or amazon fire. check out the california elections 2022 segment to find out breakdowns anytime.

nancy pelosi held a roundtable in san francisco to discuss a food sovereignty system. she joined education and nutrition experts on a panel at the community farm.the panel importance of farming and building a diverse community. >> yes, i have responsibilities nationally. there is no honor greater than to go to the floor of the house and speak to the people of san francisco. >> pelosi met some of the farmers and volunteers. the farm is one of the largest community farms in the bay area. one of comedy's biggest stars is coming to the home of the warriors. adam sandler is set to make a stop at chase center in san francisco. he will perform on december 6. pre-ticket sales are available now. tickets go on sale to the public tomorrow morning at 10:00. there is a new roller rink in

as we get through the morning hours, as it retreats, we will be visited i some mid and high-level clouds today. we will call it mostly to partly cloudy. it is 60 in santa clara. 62 in mountain view. temperatures are milder. you can feel it with mainly more 60's than 50's. 61 in napa and livermore as well as in the south bay. the coast with 59, in santa rosa. the marine layer, as it has grown taller, is spreading inland. we are looking up at five degree milder start for you this sunday morning. a look outside from the exploratorium camera where we have plenty of clouds. cooler than average this afternoon. that will take us through today and tomorrow as well with the visit from the high and mid-level clouds. looking at warmer days likely to arrive tuesday and the warmest day on wednesday. look at the cloud cover as we go through the next several hours. we have a low cloud deck and it begins to pull back.

this is 3:00 to 4:00. these are areas along the coast to san mateo, across the bay and into oakland, making for partly cloudy skies or your sunday afternoon. monday morning, an expansive deck of low clouds erodes back. we are visited by the high and mid-level clouds for the afternoon. partly cloudy on monday. taking you through tuesday. same scenario, high-pressure building in. that will result in some warmer numbers. here is a look at monday's temperatures. instead of being on the lower side of the 70's, it will be the upper 70's on monday and tuesday. mid and upper 80's arrive with milder readings around the bay. 70's, even getting some 80's into the north bay. here is the warmest day. some 90's arriving in our inland valleys with 80's back in the south bay. highs today are partly cloudy. mostly cloudy skies, 65 downtown. 67, about the same in oakland.

look like this, designed just for farmworkers, featuring -- >> the conference room, the computer lab and three rooms. there are more conferences, and for doctors visits through telehealth. mental health conditions as well. it is a state-of-the-art vehicle. >> joaquin jimenez is the program director. the nonprofit is bringing the bus to the coast. he says farmworkers may not be a doctor when they are sick, due to transportation challenges or a fear of missing out on pay. the bus will make it easier to get medical care. >> that way we don't have to miss too much work. the time is limited for us. >> here is how it will work. the bus will come to three farms

certain days of the week and they hope to visit other places too. >> areas like central valley. maybe other organizations in the area will be interested. >> a program that will also help bridge the digital divide. >> a lot of farmworkers don't have the cell phones or technology to be able to talk to their families in mexico. sometimes, we don't get good reception with the internet. so, i think it will help me a lot too. >> gloria rodriguez, abc7news. zach: various community groups are helping fund the bus. jimenez says it will help at least 1500 farmworkers on the coast. in the east bay the autumn lights festival has wrapped up. more than 50 eliminated art displays were part of the interactive experience. -- illuminated art displays were part of the interactive experience. ticket sales benefited the

announcer: building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. zach: a very good morning to you. so happy you are up with us at this hour. we will start this half hour with a look at the weather. here is lisa argen. lisa: nice to see you again. we are starting off with cloud cover and the fog is not an issue. it is milder out there. 60 at danville. 63 in concord. low 60's downtown. that is a milder start, by four to five degrees. as we go through the morning, the low clouds peel back. we will be visited by high and mid-level clouds, making for a partly cloudy to mostly cloudy afternoon. we will see highs in the 70's. a day of below average readings. the marine layer comes back quickly tonight. we will see a return of the fog. temperatures begin to climb. it will not be totally sunny the next several days. we will talk about that and how

long the warmth lasts in a few minutes. zach: thank you. in stockton, the suspected serial killer has been arrested. he is expected to appear in court on tuesday. police say wesley brownlee is a suspect in seven shootings, six of them were deadly. one of the victims is from oakland. officers say ballistics tests linked brownlee to all seven shootings. with tips from the community, they were able to find out where he lived. the chief says brownlee was armed when officers confronted him. they believe he was preparing for another kill. the u.s. is sending more aid to ukraine, a 725 million dollar package that includes military vehicles and ammunition. it comes as russia has escalated attacks following the bombing of a bridge. britt claimant has the story -- clement has the story. >> the u.s. announcing another round of military aid for

ukraine. it comes as ukrainian forces continue to make important gains against russia's invasion. this latest round of eight includes military vehicles and ammunition for american -- which have been critical on the battlefield. sources tell abc news that russia is rapidly exhausting its arsenal of long-range weapons. russia offering to evacuate citizens from one of the territories putin annexed that ukraine is fighting to take back. losing it would be a decisive blow to putin's war ambitions. the russian president has said there is no need for more massive strikes for now. saying russia is not looking to destroy ukraine. his comments come as russian missiles rained down on friday. putin has said his recent call up with troops would end in two weeks with 16,000 reserves on the front line. russian military leaders are facing criticism at home as news

of the first deaths of these new recruits are reported. meanwhile, ukrainian officials are urging people to conserve energy and prepare for a difficult winter, after russia pummeled the country's infrastructure. demand on the rise for generators, gas burners and wood-burning stoves. zach: coming up on this week, pete buttigieg will talk about the latest jobs report, recession fears and when he thinks americans can expect to feel relief. you can watch the full interview with george stephanopoulos at 8:00 this morning on abc seven. the parents of an injured teenager are accused of attacking a high school and civil in yuba county. sheriff step these were called to break up a student fight last month. one student went to the hospital for treatment. the deputy said the parents showed up the next day and the father began assaulting the school principal. the deputies found a ghost gun

and confirmed it was brought onto school property. the parents face a number of charges including assault on a school employee and possession of a weapon on a school campus. on broadway, dim the lights -- they dimmed the lights in memory of angela. she might be merit for murder she wrote but she left her mark on the stage. she made her broadway debut in 1957 and 15 tony awards -- won five tony awards. she died at the age of 96. look at these visuals. tens of thousands of people from across the country gathered at new river gorge, america's newest national park. the biggest attraction there was base jumping. it is the only dance allowed on that 876 foot bridge. hundreds of jumpers made the le by parachuting off the. it is the largest one-day event in west virginia. judging by the crowd, it did not

disappoint. you will never see me doing that. this morning, someone in the bay area is a lot richer, like hundreds of millions of dollars richer. the mega millions winning ticket was sold. another was sold in a flood. they will split the $500 million jackpot. cornell barnard talked with customers and store owners wondering who that lucky person might be. >> i was just inside earlier. i heard about it. >> he is thrilled he may have sold to win the mega millions ticket worth 240 $7 million at this 7-eleven store in san jose. a copy of the winning ticket's receipt is on display at the lotto machine. the numbers are 9, 22, 26, 41, 44 and the mega number is 19. the 494 million dollar jackpot will be split with another

his agents confirmed he is finalizing a four year, 100 $40 million contract extension. the deal is expected to be finalized ahead of monday's deadline for rookie extensions for member's of the 2019 class. he put up a career-high in nearly every major offensive category and was a key piece in the championship run last season. he is joined by andrew wiggins, who signed a four year, $109 million contract extension. he is coming off of a career year, earning his first all-star nod read arguably the warriors second best player during the postseason outside of stephen curry. he took a pay cut to stay with golden state. he will make $33.6 million this season but drops to 27 million dollars following this year. stanford taking on notre dame. first drive, stanford striking first. casey built-ins -- wilkins
