brownlee is waking up in the san joaquin county jail. investigators say he is connected to six homicides, five in stockton and one in oakland. there is also one woman who survived an attack. most of the victims were hispanic men. early saturday morning, police got a break in the case when they spotted brownlee driving through stockton. they say he was dressed in black, had amassed around his neck and armed with a gun. officials say reaching out to the community helped catch brownlee in the end. >> we were doing 200 to 500 tips a day to mine that for a nugget of gold, if you will. we just needed a little bit and then we could put the rest of the dots together. jobina: they said ballistics tests and surveillance video link to the crimes. the dr. police chief says brownlee has a criminal history. they are trying to figure out a motive for the killings. reggie: the only known survivor of the serial killer is now telling her story and it is

compelling. natasha spoke with a media outlet about the shooting. she says she was unhoused at the time of the incident last spring. she was standing next to the train tracks when she saw a gun pointed at her. the gunman shot her 10 times in the upper part of her body. she had to crawl away from the scene, calling for help, not knowing where the suspect went. >> it was a burning. you are wet all over, you don't know why. every time i moved my legs, i was getting wetter and wetter. i was dying. reggie: even though this happened last year, she says as she does -- as soon as she saw descriptions of brownlee, she knew that was the guy. kumasi: one focus of building a better bay area is your help. doctors are warning of new covid variants as kids are now

eligible to get the booster. lena howland joining us where those boosters could be available as soon as today. lena: that's right. officials in san jose are still waiting on that vaccine supply to arrive, possibly as early as today at the santa clara county fairgrounds. this is where kids ages five to 11 will get there covid booster shots. the fda just approved emergency use of this vaccine for this age group last week. but this comes as two new variants are causing concern. bq-1 and bq-1.1 could cause a winter surge. according to the cdc, they were not detected in the u.s. until a month ago and each rose quickly to make up 5.7% of cases across the country. in the u.k., infections from bq-

california voters are being asked to decide on a measure to regulate dialysis clinics across the state. prop 29 would amend the health code to require these clinics have a licensed medical professional on-site during treatment. or in some cases, virtual during treatment. it would also establish other requirements on clinics. it is almost identical to the 2020 measure the failed. opponents of the bill say it will drastically reduce the number of dialysis clinics in the state, leaving people without lifesaving care. you will you voting on seven propositions and we published an explanation for each one on the abc 7 streaming app. it is a billable for roku, amazon tv. kumasi: fema opened a disaster recovery center in st. john's county in florida.

damage from the storm took a heavy toll on the community. more than 600 homes got damaged and there is $38 million in damage. that does not include millions more to repair the infrastructure. fema says it is available to help those that lost everything. reggie: if you get a letter from the irs this week, it might be a good thing. they are rolling out to millions of people who may be missing out on covid related tax benefits. over 9 million americans have not yet taken advantage of temporary tax credits that congress approved last year. that includes the child tax credit and earned income tax credit. if you get a letter, you have until november 17 to file. kumasi: another disappointing game for the 49ers. they were down six defensive starters for yesterday's game. it fell behind 14-0 before they tied it up. but the falcons scored before the half and never looked back.

5:04 p.m. is when it will start. reggie: zoe lofgren is announcing millions of dollars in funding for local projects. this comes from congress and will go toward fighting climate change. san jose's among the three organizations presenting a check. kumasi: a wake will be held for the two brothers killed earlier this month. both were killed after a shooting at a birthday party in oakland. two were also injured. it will be held at the mission funeral home in hayward and organizers are asking everyone to wear white masks. reggie: a north bay man in critical condition after being shot by sonoma county sheriff's deputies in sonoma. the man was terrorizing people in the sonoma plaza area saturday night. they say the man smashed windows at a business, tried to break the window of a passing limo and waved a gun around.

investigators say he fired a shot at deputies and that is when they opened fire. >> as we were approaching the windows we heard pop, pop, pop. a bunch of gunfire, it did not seem real. i saw him rollover in the street and a lot of blood. it was like out of a movie. reggie: the man was shot a second time after running toward deputies following the initial shooting. he was taken into custody. the man has not been identified because deputies were involved in the shooting. the santa rosa police department is going to complete the investigation. kumasi: five people have been arrested for by alcohol for minors in menlo park. alcoholic beverage control agents made this arrest over the weekend. the goal is to reduce minors' access to alcohol. studies show underage drinking leads to higher rates of drunk driving crashes at a higher chance of criminal activity. those five people may be fined

$1000 and may have to do 24 hours of community service. reggie: former president donald trump is facing backlash after what he his condemning what he thinks is the jewish community. some people are calling his remarks anti-semitic. this comes as federal regulars opened investigations into his platform, truth social, over financial secured violations. a former executive said he was pressured to give milani --melania trump some of his shares. [crowd shouting] kumasi: this crowd pay tribute to the inmates that died in iran's prison over the weekend. at least eight people died from smoke inhalation and more than 60 were injured during that fire. many believe the death toll is
