building a better bay area moving forward finding solutions. this is abc 7 news less than seven minutes. that's all it took for at least five burglars to break into a small independently owned coins and antique shop early this morning, and it was all caught on surveillance cameras. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley and i'm dionne lim tonight the owners. they are picking up the pieces and sharing the video in hopes of identifying the suspects. so this kind of crime does not happen to anyone else. you felt hopeless you felt. violated broken glass overturned boxes and a trail of coins. these are the remains tuesday morning of a seven minute crime spree that the owner of sf coins jewelry and antiques watched in real time on surveillance from home where you didn't call in the middle of night and it's from your alarm company.

i know and it was in the good news video from the stores nearly 30 surveillance cameras shows three vehicles pull up to the intersection of 12th avenue and clement at about 2:45 tuesday morning, at least five individuals can be seen some armed with crowbars dressed in hoodies and face masks please in a minute. jay who requested we hide his identity explained how five suspects broke into the safe room and nearly cleared the shelves loading boxes of coins into garbage bags. you can hear the suspects talking in audibly then the high-pitched alarm blaring so these are professionals jay and his partner estimate the loss at around $50,000. they have a combined 45 years of experience in the coin business and never expected a burglary of this magnitude in the neighborhood. you've just used to such a disably that this is happening to us. you feel the shock that this is

happening in richmond district. jay wants to think quick thinking neighbors who woke up and alerted the police beating even the alarm company. he says the shop will recover and be back stronger than ever we stand about. 70 to 80,000 in the security and civilians, but we're going to spend more we don't want to be deterred by these people and just talk to in business will not powered we can keep moving on. strong message now believe it or not. the store is still open despite all of that debris left over from the burglary. unbelievable. san francisco. police are also investigating a homicide that happened just after midnight police say the victim had just left to store on turk street near taylor in the city's tenderloin district and was getting ready to drive away when he was shot and killed you can see the area was blocked off early this morning and there was shattered glass at a nearby business and what appears to be a bullet hole. the victim was a 40 year old man from oakland, but his name has not yet been released. tonight loved ones are

remembering the innocent oakland man who was hit and killed by a driver being chased by oakland police that deadly crash happened early yesterday morning, but police say it was all sparked by hit and run crash on friday abc 7 news reporter loose peña spoke to the victim's family and brings us this story. 24 hours after 44 year old agustin guilt was killed his family speaking out. his knees said agustin was more than an uncle to her. he was like a second dad. i left to go to santa cruz. and then those the last time i've heard from him. like under two hours later invite that coffee. he was like your uncle who's dead. i really remembers saying good night to her uncle on sunday. she wants him to be remembered for his generous heart and the joyful person as someone who was loving and caring as someone who care for all of us no matter he would sacrifice his own happiness for us to be happy.

he would help us. he was just an amazing uncle augustine was just seconds from arriving at his job his co-workers heard the crash just minutes before 7 am on monday when they looked across the street and asked the police officer on scene if the person was agustin their hearts sank, it was really really bad. yes, so so sad, you know, he he still had a long. long life ahead of him during a press conference on monday. opd's chief confirmed the suspect who crashed into agustin is 23 year old jonathan hernandez. he was being chased by officers after being accused a flashing a gun at a driver during a hit and run on friday. this perceived is being investigated about a department and at some point when investigation is concluded this for super grew go before a review board. the suspect was arrested and the

quadruple shooting on telegraph avenue killed a 29 year old ministry student from the pacific school of religion three others were hurt that shooting hit close to home said angiano. a lot of people were like disturbed and they were kind of just freaking out and a lot of people like we're getting phone calls from their parents because they're worried you see berkeley administrators receive so many calls from students and parents demanding more security that authorities took action last friday new private patrols launched around the dorms also known as units one two, and three they will be on shift from 6pm in the evening to 2:30 a.m. seven days a week. they will be monitoring outside the residence halls and observing and recording and just helping enhance our security the patrols will last a month. possibly longer until more help arrives cal berkeley says it plans on hiring two more universally police officers as well as more security monitors. we are in the process of hiring for example, 75 new security monitors. the security monitors are

trained students who are dedicated to our residential halls freshman elizabeth shepherd says adding private security guards couldn't have come at a better time. i am concerned about safety. we get messages that alert us when things happen and it can be scary some aren't sure what extra patrols will really do we have ucbd. we have the bear walk system. i don't think anything is going to change with the private security system, but it makes people feel more secure or or more safe angiano seeing the new security guards patrolling outside her dorm. i have they're walking outside in front of the units. they're kind of just pacing back and forth, but it's only for i think a few hours it's not until the entire night or it's super late at night. it isn't much as anchiano, but for her, it makes a difference in berkeley. suzanne fawn abc 7 news moving on to new developments in the longest mental health strike in us history today at tentative agreement was reached between kaiser permanente and national union of healthcare workers. this all comes more than two

get exclusive offers on select new volvo models. stopped in serial killer made his first court appearance today wesley brownlee was charged with three counts of murder including felony charges of possessing of firearm and ammunition. the question is why is he only charged with the deaths of these three men when police say he is linked to evan victims abc 7 news reporter leanne melendez is in the newsroom with more on what police are finding out leanne. yeah, well the da says they have linked the bullets recovered from the gun that brownlow brownlee had to all seven shootings, but in three cases they have other evidence that really solidified their case now they're waiting for that

additional evidence in the other four shootings and once they do they will add those charges. it was revealed today that wesley brownlee was an interesting truck driver who recently moved to stockton from alameda county in court. he was charged with three counts of murder, even though investigators say the ballistic tests show a match in all seven shootings the district attorney for san joaquin county said, they are waiting for additional evidence in the other four cases. we believe it allow us to move forward on the remaining counts. we're just waiting for that information before they process. either the victims were latinos and four were homeless. the da is investigating whether this could be a hate crime a motive has yet to be determined stockton's police chief said, he's certain brownlee is behind this series of killings. we have absolutely no reason to believe that there's anyone out there that you should fear in regards to these cases brownlee was arrested in the morning

hours of saturday. he was being followed police. say he had a handgun and was possibly searching for another victim. this is surveillance video released two weeks ago. stockton's police. chief said like most cereal killers. there was a pattern that was closely followed in each of the shootings. it's fitting the same pattern where is dark locations people are vulnerable dim lighting no one around for help and with ballistic evidence it led us to interconnect them police. say his killing spree began in april 2021 in oakland with 40 year old. vasquez serrano and then moved to the stockton area killing five more men natasha latour. another shooting victim was the only survivor just started dead shooting outside. i just saw i just saw flashes. what drove him to commit these crimes is a mystery he had no history.

of violations now the da also said this case involves special circumstances for multiple murders, and that means that he could be facing life without the possibility of parole or the death penalty in the newsroom leanne melendez. abc 7 news. alright leanne many. thanks. well today a jury found paul flores guilty of killing christian smart, 26 years ago flores was the last person to be seen with smart after a party in 1996 prosecutors. say he killed the 19 year old while attempting to rape her in his dorm room at cal poly, san luis obispo. paul's father rubin was accused of helping very smart's body, which has never been found. he was charged as an accessory and acquitted today. paul flores is scheduled to be sentenced in december and faces 25 years to life in prison coming up vice president. kamala harris is back in the bay area this evening. we'll take a look at what she's doing here after the
